Anyone applying to USF IMS program this round? I was marked complete today.

Thanks,

If you don't get into IMS would you go to the other one? (which has much bigger class?)

I've heard while its not as great as IMS, good grades will get you interviews into some choice schools.

Not likely. I am already in a program like that in Mississippi so I really need a step up from that. However if it was that vs nothing I would most likely choose the MSBS. However I do have other apps out there so we shall see what happens.

I'm already in Barry's Accelerated. I'd prefer to stay in FL. I'd love IMS but if I only get MBBS (Which is likely) then I'm not sure.

Why do you think you won't get into the IMS? Bad GPA, Bad MCAT or lacking other things?

sciGPA is 3.8 (their scienceGPA calculator lets you only use most recent) so I think I'm ok. I'm just not sure about MCAT yet. Also they only accept 6- 10 applicants, but I am an URM and economically/socially disadvantaged (don't need to give details, but definitely not a Middle class URM) so that may help me out since they seem to like such applicants.

I sadly can't afford out of state SMPs and don't feel comfortable with anything out of FL (Georgetown's 45k tuition definitely is steep). Best of luck to you,

I have noticed that this program was originally for URMs, however that has long gone to the way side. However being URM helps you for any program. Your sciGPA is huge. However even though the GPA calc lets you use the most recent they still consider all grades. I really think the GPA calc is just a formality. While I know they only accept a few people I know there isn't a set number. It really depends on who they get and if they like you they will find room for you but this is only if they believe that you are just short numbers wise and there SMP will finish the job and get you in. Most schools that have an SMP program use it like a safety net to test out those that just miss the mark and make sure they are a good fit for their school. Schools like Barry and MC use it to make money. So you really want to push for that IMS because from what I have seen it is a ticket to Florida medical schools. Also the MSBS isn't half bad either at getting people into schools but not nearly as good.

Agreed, even without retakes, I have a 3.X sci and their averages are around their (especially for MSBS).

But yeah, hopefully we get in then. I'd prefer this than Barry.

I agree. I only hear good things about the IMS.

I'm also applying but I definitely do not have as high MCAT as you WorldChanger36. :/
I'll most likely finish up the secondary next weekend. Pretty high linkage from this program to the medical school as per their FAQ! Also, average GPA and MCAT seem to be low for this program as well.

I exceed the average admissions to this program all around and I am in the last semester of a masters in medical science program in Mississippi College which I am doing OK in. Will most likely finish it with a 3.5+. However not being a minority student I would not be surprised if I didn't get in and the fact that we are all competing for about 15 seats means that any deviation from "fit" could mean rejection. The program was recommended to me by USF med adcoms. I was told it is my best shot at medical school so I applied. I was told that they will be sending out complete emails soon and should be making their selections by Mid March ( Not rolling admissions). I would be more then happy with this program because I can't seem to give what EVMS wants, which is very disappointing, because this is the second time I have been waitlisted by that school. Waiting on Georgetown SMP but I am not holding my breath. If I don't get any good news from USF I will apply to Toledo's SMP.
15 is not alot of spots but damn I want one really bad. Oh well ...chill until March and deal with the news of what happens then 😎.

Yeah, I agree that deviating from what they're looking for such as not being a minority could mean rejection too. I'm looking at Facebook groups from past several years and they're a majority which I would consider a minority lol. I'm not from Florida or minority so that sucks for me. I'm applying for RFU BMS, LECOM postbac, and SGU as backups. Would definitely consider USF IMS one of my top choices.

I am pretty sure if you dont get into the IMS they move your app over to the MSBS, which is a good program and they seem to have worked most of the bugs out but it doesn't have a 90 to 100 percent get into USF med rate.

Eh, I wouldn't consider the MSBS, especially from what I've read about it on here.

Just finished my application for USF IMS. Good thing it isn't rolling admissions. Best of luck to all of us applying here. 😀

Well from what I have seen they have worked a ton of problems out of the program and a lot of people are seeing great results. It makes a great 2nd option if the IMS doesn't work. Alot of people that complete the msbs get into an instate school and Florida has a lot of great schools so seems like a good deal to me.

We probably won't hear hear anything until after a week or two after the deadline...

I figured we won't hear anything until April from what I am told. No complete emails or anything is a bit weird to me.

If you didn't get the incomplete email from Shaterra White (I was sent one a couple of weeks ago) then you are most likely complete. I've sent a couple emails regarding my completion status after, but no response from her..

That is my thinking as well however it would suck epically if I get tossed because they didn't get X transcript and forgot to tell me. If they say you are compete and do that then you have recourse to do something about it. Eh oh well... I am gunning hard to get into Nova this round so hopeful it won't matter.

And hope you get into Nova then!

Do any of you guys know if the IMS program is for matriculation into the SOM the following year? (same year admissions)

Pretty sure it is same year. So no glide year.

It depends on whether or not you are advised to apply during the program or wait until after you graduate and have all the grades in. (Each student is provided individualized advising through IMS based on their personal application). It is difficult to study to retake MCAT during the summer course since that is five days a week with an exam every Monday, so many decide just to focus on the IMS courses for the year, graduate then retake the MCAT and apply the following cycle.

The IMS program offers NO GUARANTEES for interviews, admission, etc. We are just like regular applicants. That being said, if you work very very hard and do really well in their MS1 courses then there is no reason for them to not accept you. The statistics on the IMS website advertising acceptance rates are based off of all the students that apply during IMS AND then the ones that wait a year. They are not the percent that go immediately into the MCOM after graduation.

Good luck everyone!

What is the difference between all the sub-types of the IMS programs?
On the application, is it ok just to pick IMS or do you have to pick:
"IMS-X"?
X being one of their sub-types.
Thanks

Thanks for the information! From their FAQs, it still seems to be that most of the IMS students will get in anyways. I saw from your posts that you got into the IMS program from the wait list last year. Do you mind sharing your stats?

There are not any sub-types of IMS (unless it's something new that they haven't told us about), so I would just pick the one that just says IMS. The application is a new system from last year, so maybe that has something to do with the weird X option. But I'm not sure what that's all about, so it would not be a bad idea to call the office to confirm.

I'll send you a message in a sec. I, like many in my current class actually, got in off the wait list because a lot of people who get accepted may end up getting into an MD program and give up their spots (so don't let the max class size of 15 scare you!).

IMS is not for students with stellar numbers. If we had them, then we wouldn't need IMS to prove ourselves! However, everyone in IMS has extensive (clinical) experiences outside of school/MCAT that prove our ability to be doctors. We have clinic managers, EMTs, Medical Assistants, Surgery Techs etc. all in our class. IMS just gives us the chance to prove ourselves in the classroom and therefore to admissions.

hi drbaby, also could you send me some information about ims as well! i am very interested in this program! 🙂

Hey All,

Do you know if they want math GPA's in the Natural Science GPA spreadsheet?

Thanks

Hey All,

Don't think so, it's specified in the sGPA spreadsheet. Otherwise, my sGPA would've been a tenth or two higher. 🙁

Hey All,

I am pretty sure you can treat the sGPA like a BCMP GPA sheet. If its biology, chem, math or physics you can put it on there. I doubt the are going to freak out if you put math on one but they wanted it on another. these Gpa spread sheets are more of a formality has they have your transcripts and are going to follow that over anything you put on a spread sheet.

Happy deadline day everyone.... So lets keep our fingers crossed for the month and hope we get in...

Thanks everyone and now the wait begins.

Just got accepted to RFU BMS so I'll most likely attend there if I get accepted to USF IMS. Good luck everyone! 😀

Awesome. Glad you got into your program of interest. You should consider withdrawing your app from the IMS to help cut down on the work load of the people that are making admission choices. Just a nice thing to do if you have made up your mind that RFU is the place for you.

Yep, will do. Already sent in my deposit and acceptance acknowledgement for RFU. 🙂

Good luck to all again!

Just got into tulanes masters in pharmacology . Still hopeing for USF IMS or nova med though. Good news for me here i M going some where and that is great. Now fingers crossed for USF ....

Does anyone know what day we find out if we are accepted?

No idea what day but it is in April. Early April.

Last year I was wait listed 4/17 and accepted 5/18. That doesn't mean it will necessarily be on the same days this year though. Hopefully you will all hear good news soon 🙂

Let me know if you have any questions about the program. Contacting Ms. Shirley Smith is the best option if you don't know something, but I will do my best to give you accurate information from my experience.

I have a question for you... I have been getting a lot of mixed information about how USF regards this program when applying to USF the same year. For the most part people say that chances of admission to USF are higher if you apply after the program is completed, but quite a few also said that chances are pretty good if you have a strong track record already to get into the same year. How in the world does this work if USF doesn't take updates during the app cycle? Are these people saying that they got into USF not because of the IMS program but because of their grades and scores? Why even apply to this program at all if somebody could do that?
