Hi everyone, I just received an e-mail saying I was accepted to the msms program and will receive an official acceptance in 3 weeks. I've been researching the program and it looks like the IMS program is more of an smp. Does anyone know if I can also put my application in for that as well?

Also while I'm here, just wondering about the outcomes of the msms program as well!

[edit]: nevermind - called USF, deadline is passed... though I'd still like to know if anyone has information on the outcomes? Interviews at USF, etc?

From what I know, only ~10 people get an interview from USF during the SMP year but they already had great stats to begin with because USF doesn't allow updates once you submit your application until you receive an interview. The program doesn't release information from graduates of the program though.

Also the outcomes aren't the best from the MSMS program because the class size is usually large (~250 people). I do remember seeing a lot of the class in USF MCOM from MSMS, but I think at most maybe like ~20 - 35 people and out of such a large class, it isn't exactly high chances. Compared to a lot of SMPs where usually a % of the class gets in, there is no way to know how many people usually get into USFMCOM or not, but as I said, the number is usually low compared to the class size. A lot of people I know from the program ended up at DO, the Carrib or other, lower tier MD schools.

Its a tough, but good program. Just don't see it as your ticket to getting into USF unless you already have good stats and just need a very slight bump.

Thanks for your reply! That's good to know. I did know it was a large class, I suppose it makes sense that only a small portion gets in.

I have a 3.2 sGPA and a 32 MCAT - are these stats considered relatively competitive going into an SMP, or am I doomed to be accepted by any medical school during my SMP year? I am open to DO, however, due to geographical concerns, I'm very interested in my state school which is allopathic, and there are no other DO schools in this state.

Any opinions? I'm a non-trad with an abnormally low gpa my last semester due to moving in to take care of an ill family member and that's what I'm trying to improve upon, now.

I would shoot for Georgetown or Cincy since they have better name recognition and smaller class size. MSMS isn't exactly well known across the US and even IMS is usually best for staying in FL.

I would also suggest taking a glide year unless your state school accepts updates. Maybe the best thing you can do is talk to the admissions there and have them give you the best advice on how to improve GPA?

Interesting - Ok, so the issue there is I applied late, and at that point Gtown and Cincy were not accepting applications, especially since my MCAT score was released June 24. I'm wondering, if nothing else pans out for me, would it still hurt to put my best effort in at USF, and give medical schools updated grades at the end of the fall semester? Just wondering out loud, I'm sure no one can tell me for sure, but being that I already have a post-bacc, retaking college courses is not entirely the most ideal option for me. I'd much rather try to prove myself on a higher level that medical schools can relate more to.

Go for it! As long as your school accepts updates then hopefully you can get an interview and impress them. Btw as someone who just finished this cycle (although still technically in it on a few waitlists), sometimes interviewing later is better than earlier so that MD schools can see your updated grades. I remember I interviewed at some places early and by the time grades came out for my SMP, they had already made a decision on my file. I know its not always the case so check with each school about when they make decisions on your file and if continuous updates help.

Thanks for your reply! Do you mind letting me know where you went and how your cycle turned out for you? Did you do both osteopathic and allopathic?
