I don't know how USF's timetable is compared to the other Florida schools, but I know UF invites people straight up through at least January, so don't worry. I'm sure they do something similar. When were you complete at USF by the way? I was complete in late september and still haven't heard anything. Good luck!
REL said:The applicant pool builds on a daily basis. As files get completed we will send you an email to advise you of file completion and also give you a gist of our process. Briefly if you have met the minimum requirements your file will be placed an a pool of applicants which may be selected for an interview. The perfect applicant will be one who has max'd out the numbers and has shown a strong motivation to be in medicine and help people (volunteering, leadership, etc). Our pool builds over the course of several months and we visit the eligible pool to construct an interview group on a near-weekly basis. Completing an application early allows you to be in the pool for selection early while there are fewer applicants and also puts you there for selection for many more weeks than many. I suspect we are one of the few schools who really, really stress the "motivation" aspects, and of course would like to see competitive numbers. Logically we will comb the pool each week for the high numbered, perfectly motivated applicant to invite for the next group. As you might surmise there are few perfect applicants.
I am also of the belief that we are one of the leaders in having a very diverse class for medical schools. Diversity is much more than ethnicity and gender. It includes such things as age, degrees, rural, city, undergrad institution, experience, culture, etc. Having a diverse student body increases the learning experience of the class and emerses classmates into the world in which they will serve. We are lucky to have a very large group of diverse clinical teaching facilities in the nation's 5th most diverse large city area population in the US. This helps you to get diverse training in facilities which have heavy patient loads of a very diverse, large poplulation.
When we construct an interview group we will visit the eligible pool and using many factors invite a group to interview. Since we visit this on a near-weekly basis, if your file is complete and you are in this pool, your file may be selected in any give week from the end of September through March. As already noted, there were open seats in the class at the end of the interview season. It might be best to approach this process as a marathon rather than a sprint. At most schools early file completion and a looooooonnnnngggg silence does not mean that you will not be interviewed. I hope this helps.

thanks[/QUOTE
Most files have been reviewed within two weeks of being final. The selection process is complex and the interview season is long for the applicant and the school. Usually in the early going there are several applicants who bring very high numbers and have done very well in the EC's. They will often be selected in the first interview groups.

gujuDoc said:USF typically starts EDP interviews in the second week of September, let's those people know if they got in the next week afterwards, and then a week after that in the 4th week of September they start giving the regular interviews.
This year, regular season started at Sept 26th. Interviews are always on Mondays and after the Oct 15th date, they generally get back to you within a week or two with your status: hold, waitlist, acceptance, or rejection.
Once regular season starts, they interview weekly until March sometime.
There is a minor exception for Christmas break and during Thanksgiving week. Those weeks there is a slight break from interviewing. But once the break is over, interview schedules resume. My friend got the last possible interview date last year. But he still managed to get high enough on the waitlist that he got accepted in mid May, and is a current MS1 at USF COM.
If you really want to talk to someone about your application status and for reassurance, I'd talk to Mr. Rel Larkin the USF admissioins director at the medical school.
You can contact him through SDN, cuz he posts under the name REL.
Or you can get a hold of him through his email address which you can find on the website: http://hsc.usf.edu/medicine/mdadmissions
jj08 said:Hey Guju (or REL if you're around)!
Since you are pretty knowledgeable about USF can you answer a question for me? So from what I gathered, USF likes to see a history of volunteering in their applicants. During undergrad, I did quite a few internships in different departments (peds, er, etc) where I was doing scut work. Do you think that the committee will realize that my internships entailed the same experiences as volunteering through the hospital?
QofQuimica said:So if you've already submitted your AMCAS, you might ask him whether you can submit a brief explanation of your internship to be added to your file.

Always so helpful and so brilliant! 🙂 That's a great idea. I will definitely do that. Only thing is, I've read some of REL's posts on sdn and it sounds like USF specifically wants medical volunteering (i.e. hospital volunteer). I hope my internships cut it!![]()
