Hi everyone! I'm having a hard time deciding between USF (Core) and Jefferson and would appreciate any advice. I love Tampa and the USF facilities, but the tiered p/f makes me nervous. I also hope to settle in the east coast some day and feel like Jefferson might make that easier, but the large class size and far rotation sites seem like cons. Is p/f with internal rankings still better than tiered grading? Does anyone have thoughts on the impact of a larger class size? COA difference is negligible.
USF
Pros:
- Brand new facility in amazing location
- Family in FL
- Higher ranked. I know rankings don't mean much, but USF has been rising pretty rapidly recently which seems positive
- Most rotations are done at nearby Tampa General
Cons:
- Tiered P/F preclinicals (Cut-offs are based on the previous year to reduce competition but still yikes)
- I hope to live on the east coast in the future. Their recent match lists do have a number of east coast matches but skew southern
Jefferson
Pros:
- P/F preclinicals
- Students seem really happy
- Strong alumni network
- Solid match list in east coast region
Cons:
- Internal ranking by thirds
- Large class size
- Lower ranked (but also seem to be well-established within medical community)
- Some of the rotation sites are pretty far
- Facilities didn't seem as impressive
