Just a few moments ago, I was reading a page about how ppl studied for the DAT's (I happened to stumble across it after watching part of Chad's videos to see what they were like) and I noticed that quite a few people were recommending AP books for studying.

I'm curious to see whether anyone felt the same about using their AP books for general biology classes during their freshman year. Were they useful in studying, or was the information too general compared to the information tested?

They might help you understand a concept but I would not use them as a primary study guide for Biology. Go to every class and take great notes. Biology is a broad subject and most professors lecture on the material that they believe is important (i.e. what will be on the test).

I think the AP Bio book would definitely help. I would use it as a supplement while studying the class material. I especially wish I had used the book during plants/photosynthesis because that was my weakness during Bio 1/2, and I thought the AP book did really well explaining it.

Alright, two people have different opinions so far

I can see what you guys are both saying, AP Bio is more of a supplementary material and something you would be using if you were having trouble with a particular section.

there's a reason why there are required textbooks for these classes. if you're going to read anything outside of your notes, read the textbook that the professor teaches from.

first you read your notes. then you read the textbook. that's the order of importance..period! nothing else matters because your grade isnt about how smart you are..it's how much of the material on your test that you know.
