Using only the 7 book Kaplan series?

I've heard from people who took the test that all you need is, "Kaplan, Kaplan, Kaplan"; of course using Goljan for pathology.


Can anyone attest to this?

I want to stick with just the Kaplan books and in the final month of my studies, just do a quick review with FA.

get very comfortable with the kaplan books (the 7 book series or the 4 book series) and you will amaze yourself with your step 1 score.

Yeah, that's what I heard too, that's why in my original post, I said:

So the 4 book Kaplan series is divided into systems based (2 books) and discipline based (the other two books)... do they teach the same things? Is it a good idea to know both well or is it redudant/repetitive (low yield)?

I would agree with using Goljan, but the Kaplan videos are worth watching too if you have time.

yeah I had a question about this to. My school has Kaplan built into the program - they give us a set of books (7 i believe) and we're supposed to study that for a couple of months and watch the Kaplan videos they provide; Is this different than the 4 book set (which seems to have 2 books for subjects and 2 books for a system approach)?

there have been several threads regarding this issue. just do a search and you will find that people have done well using either series (lecture notes and video or the home study series). It really depends on one's preference regarding organ-system based versus subject based.

i'm using the whole kaplan book set, plus first aid. i've heard from too many different sources who claim that first aid is the bible of step 1 study material.. so i'm going to go through the kaplan books, and simultaneously take notes in first aid. four weeks or so. i think that should be sufficient.

I have examined both sets and think that the content in the two are largely similar. The length is also similar given that the black ones are denser and only marginally thinner than the 7 book set stacked up.

However, if you have the kaplan videos they will work much better with the 7 book set since the videos are subject based. If you try to watch videos and take notes in the 4 book set you will be jumping back and forth every lecture. Go with the 7 set if you will watch the videos. If not either is fine.

i don't know... i had the 2005 ed. I'm not sure how much they change from year to year... the test hasn't changed much, so having the newest set probably isn't important. i had an old first aid.
