Hi there. Wondering if anyone is interested in a Question and Answer like section? I could get it started but just want to make sure there are enough people on board. Something along the lines of this. I could not find a designated area for this. If someone knows where here on SDN could you let me know thank

Which one of the following patients is unlikely to benefit from vaccination against hepatitis A?
A. A missionary traveling to Mexico
B. A man who has sex with men
C. A methamphetamine addict
D. A patient with chronic hepatitis
E. A 40-year old recent immigrant from India

I would like this. I was looking for something similar this week- I noticed a "Step 1" section under the Medical Students forum, but I'm not sure if that is as easily found.

Can this sub-forum be created? A lot of us are working through q-banks even as M1s.

I just messaged admin to see if we can do this.
Let us see

need to be very careful that these sort of questions are not taken from copyrighted materials, that's a big no-no on SDN

also, not really here to help with homework

I think it might be helpful to figure out ways to discuss these health care topics in a way that doesn't amount to multiple choice, ya feel me?

It would be more illuminating to discuss indications and contraindications for hep A vaccination, who's at most risk, etc

I find the posting of multiple choice questions like this to be too lazy to be worth including on SDN - this is what your classmates, study groups, Google, and class materials are for

we are for more in depth convos or ones that require some experience to answer

This would be more for board studying, not homework help. It could be a separate forum so people wouldn't have to participate unless they wanted to. I guess we'll see if it's possible- I think it would be nice, but maybe I'm in the minority.

I think if there was a sections with these questions, maybe detailed answers by some of us physicians, it would be beneficial not only to the student but to the physician as well. I respect what you are saying but having the opportunity to have a sub forum for questions, whether it be open ended or multiple choice would be an asset to this area. Just my own 2 cents.

I'm just confused...that is literally what the Step 1 forum is for.

No SDN sub-forum will be created for this because there’s no way to verify why OP is asking the question. Even if you ban all MCQs, how do you know OP isn’t in the middle of a CBL small-group? Are you going to look at each question on a case-by-case basis to determine whether OP is asking a question to get easy help or if it’s genuine curiosity/trying to understand concepts.

If you guys want homework help, go to Facebook and search for USMLE STEP 1 (or step 2) groups. They discuss all things related to basic and clinical science and have no problems answering questions regardless of your intent.

P.S EDIT: see below.

P.S. The answer’s C. The rest of the choices are at risk for acute hepatitis or would be in trouble if they acquired it.
I assumed the indian dude already had it. But i know nothing. But I heard goljan's voice when i read the question.

What I do think is useful is (selfish reasons-anticipation for IM intern year) if people could share more of those cases and what to do with the next step I think that could be useful. If they were trusted users (long time members who have a consistent history now demonstrating they’re a resident) that may fly.

No, you may be right. I didn’t read carefully and just saw Indian dude. I think India is E though so if he had it maybe he wouldn’t have A (not sure if A/E reaction was a thing). Then again, the methamphetamine dude is at huge risk for Hep C/HIV so testing for HIV first (if + do CD4) so I think E might be the better answer Libertynne. My bad.

If the indian dude already had Hep A which is a high liklihood ,the vaccine would be useless because he already has developed antibodies to it. And you dont get hep A again. All the others would benefit from the vaccine provided they already dont have it. But just a lowly M1 we havent even started path yet.

Just looked it up, you’re right. You give Hep A vaccines to MSMs and IVDUs. I didn’t read carefully initially.
