USMLE Step 1 Timing?

I was told that if you wait to take your USMLE Step 1 during/after your clinincal rotations, it is frowned upon when applying for residency, is this true? Any information is appreciated. Thanks 🙂

Hmmm...that would be news to me. Why would PDs care when you took Step 1, as long as you took it and passed?

At any rate, I was never asked about the timing of my tests and I took it during 4th year electives in the US.

The only drawback, and this can be a major one, is that if you want to focus on basic science your first two years, putting it off can make it more difficult. That said however, I found my clinical experience helpful.
