Hi,

I haven't taken my usmle step II CK yet. Will a Nov 30 test date really make any difference for this application cycle for path residencies? Thanks!

depends - how'd you do on step 1? also, realize many other applicants have taken and passed it, so that's one less thing to build your application upon. however you should have your score before rank lists are made, so as long as the rest of your app is strong enough to get you an interview, i can't see how it'd matter.

Well, I suppose if you submit your ERAS now and select "no" for the Automatic retransmission of board scores, then you could prevent your CK score from going out to programs, if you're worried about it...

I took it late. It did not matter for me, even for one program that said on frieda that they require it early.

I didn't take it until late February. None of the programs seemed to care. (Even MGH, which I think at the time said on their site that you had to have taken Step 2 before getting an interview.) If you are in an MD/PhD program (or for some other reason haven't taken all of your core clerkships until later), I think it is even more understandable and even expected to take it late.

MGH doesn't require step 2 before interviewing US grads. I also remember this being unclear on their site last year.

I took it early to shore up my Step 1 score which could be slightly better.

this info is not specific or accurate but might be...If you are an FMG/IMG grad then step 2 matters. Also if you bombed step 1 then step 2 wont hurt...take this advice with a LOT of salt

I'm a US MD grad, my step I was at 50th percentile, I have excellent Letters of rec from hematopathologist, path dept chairperson, and internal medicine clinician. I hope this works out. I plan to take the exam in mid November. I hope it won't be an issue.

You could select "No" for Automatic Transmission of Board Scores in ERAS, and then if you did well you can contact the programs you're interested in later in the season and say "I'm very interested in your program and oh by the way I rocked Step 2 - here's my score".

Otherwise you just don't say anything. 🙂

What an excellent suggestion... 🙂
