Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Just got my Step 2 CK score back and I couldn't be happier: 246/99.

Did about 60% of USMLE world, and averaged 64%. Read through Crush and usually got 85-95 on the shelf tests. Step 1: 240.

I wasn't quite sure that I'd passed when I finished. I was praying for something in the 230s. Good luck everyone!

USMLE World: 59% cumulative (46 question blocks, all tutor mode, no time limit, very little changing of answer); did about 80% of it, much of it twice and some of it three times
step 1: 209

NBME II for Step 2: 247
step 2: 230

My 3rd year shelves ranged from 56-76 (before curves, etc.). I was a bit hopeful I would get closer to 247, but really felt like that was a bit of a fluke... Needless to say, 230 is a solid score and I finally got above average on something!

My advice: memorize Secrets and World and you'll do above average.

Hi all, got my Step 2 CK it was >230 I posted above, I would AGREE that usmleworld is great, step 2 CK is a like a video game that you have to learn how to play, and doing lots of questions certainly helps out. Good Luck to all studying, hope my post helps!

took step 2 ck yesterday 12/18

step 1: 201/80
step 2: ???
uw: 60% finished, 54% cumulative, last 3 46q timed blocks were 54/58/56
nbme 1: 350/174 5 days prior (yikes)
free 3x 46q usmle q's: waste of time, not representative of test/material

secrets is worth reading, FA is spotty but does have some useful sections (esp peds, derm). if i'd finished all of uw i'd feel a lot better about yesterday. i feel slightly better than after i took step 1, but still not comfortable. made a lot of dumb mistakes, and started to fade towards the end. i guess i don't have too much useful info to add right now, but i'll post in 4-6 weeks when i get results. thanks to those who posted advice in this thread, it was very encouraging & hopefully paid off.

good luck!

Got my score on 12/19, took it on 11/29.
Step 1 - 250/99
Step 2 CK score - 262/99
I did 1000/2250 USMLE world questions, scored 66% consistently. I used one and only resource - Kaplan Step 2 CK books (peds, IM, ob/gyn, surgery).
Studied 5 wks total (3 wks of 3 hrs/day, 2 wks of 8 hrs/day).

good luck all

I've failed most of my shelf's the first time around including I.M., OB, Psych,
(all around 5-7% initially), and it shows in my CK prep --

Test date: in 2 weeks:

UWorld: averaging at 47% so far, all random, timed, I've done 50% of questions over the last month.

NBME 2: 162 (3 weeks ago)
NBME 3: 180 (1 week ago)

Step I: 205

After I do random blocks, I go through the answers and read the relevant topic in Step-Up. But should I be more systematic by going through an organ system in the book, then doing a question set just for that system, etc?

Thanks.

Step 1: 246

Studied world only, did 80% and cumulative avg was 68%

Step 2: 262

I have to say world was a great source, the questions were very similar the real deal. Probably should have finished it but ran out of motivation

step I 233/94
step II 237/98

was hoping for a little better but not complaining just happy i did fairly well study on and off over 6 to 8 weeks probably avg 3-4 hours a day while doing rotations/interviews USMLE world completed avg 60% NMBE est 247 walked out of the test having absolutely no idea how I did. Any way good luck every one its a long test

step 1: 243
step 2: 265
Did all of USMLE world once and averaged around 67%, also used first aid- studied for about 3 weeks and much more relaxed than for step1.

step 1: 238/96
step 2: 244/99
did 100% USMLE world once and averaged around 60%. Read First Aid twice and read Step 2 Secrets about 3 times. Studied for ~3 weeks

pretty happy with my score, actually better than i thought

Step 1: 263/99
Step 2 280/99

Studied for around 4 weeks but had 7 interviews in that time. Did all of USMLE world with a 74% average on random sets of 46 questions. Did all 3 NBME exams.

NBME 1: 770 2 weeks before exam
NBME 2: 780 4 days before exam
NBME 3: 750 4 days before exam

Step 1: 263/99
Step 2 280/99

Studied for around 4 weeks but had 7 interviews in that time. Did all of USMLE world with a 74% average on random sets of 46 questions. Did all 3 NBME exams.

NBME 1: 770 2 weeks before exam
NBME 2: 780 4 days before exam
NBME 3: 750 4 days before exam

I'm sorry to hear that...maybe you can prove yourself on Step 3 however, to make up for your "lowly 280" on Step 2... 😀

USMLE Step 1: 248/99
Step 2: 276/99 (today)

USMLE World: 72% for Step 2 (all questions). Read first aid like 1.5 time.

Step 1: 258/99
Step 2: 253/99

Read First Aid a couple times.
USMLEWorld 100% completed, 67% overall, 72% last 300
Nothing else

Studied probably 1.5 weeks total about 8 hours/day during winter break

What is more impressive than these scores is that people are actually motivated to study (even if only a little bit) this late in the interview season...at least motivated enough to get a 280 or 273...By the time they took it, their score would not get them any more interviews. Super impressive.

I've been frequenting this site since I first started med school so it's about time I contributed something. Just got my Step 2 score back:

USMLE STEP 1: 237 COMLEX STEP 1: 683
USMLE STEP 2: 244 COMLEX STEP 2: 756
Still waiting on my COMLEX PE

Avg USMLE world = mid 60's random blocks of 30 - 46
studied for two weeks for the comlex using Boards and Wards and First Aid back in August. Studied for 1 day for USMLE 2 using Boards and Wards. Overall I know I could have improved my USMLE score even more, but I already matched into Pediatrics with the Air Force in San Antonio. I plan on pursuing a sub-specialty which is why I am taking the USMLE.

One thing I would say is that the USMLE is a much clearer, well written test. I find it sad that the NBOME has sacrificed quality and in the end reputation in an attempt to keep pace with the NBME. Nothing shows this tremendous flaw more than the pathetic attempt to test clinical skills through the COMLEX PE. There are thousands of DO's practicing today in every field of medicine. I have found that for the most part they are every bit as capable and intelligent as the Allopathic counterpart. Unfortunately, I will quickly drop any communication with my Alma-Matter or the AOA following receipt of my diploma and will pursue allopathic training simply because the leadership of the AOA and NBOME has decided that money and appearance matter more than doing things in an upstanding way. The Air Force has a motto - Integrity first, Excellence in all we do, and service before self. I wish the NBOME and AOA would adopt the same.

Thank you all for posting and providing a place for Type A's like me to find study tips and information.

step 1: 201/80
step 2: 205/84

p.s. lol @ 90% of replies lately being 99th percentile

Step I - 238/96
Step II - 258/99

I spent about 2+ weeks studying with USMLE World and FA. Initially, I tried the tactic of reading FA during the morning and afternoon and then questions in the evening (like I did for step I), but after a day or so I realized that questions are where the real money is, and with 2200 questions, you have to hit them at a pretty good rate to cover most of them. So I pretty much did 2-4 question blocks a day with an in depth review of the answers. My cumulative performance was 62%, but going down the stretch into test day, I was averaging 67% or so pretty consistently.

Step I- 255/99
Step II- 252/99

USMLE World: got through 65% with an average of 68% correct.
Read through first aid once during interview trail.

Step I- 236/95
Step II- 240/99

USMLE World - did about 75% with an average of 65ish% correct.
Read through all of Secrets and about 90% of First Aid. Studied for about 3 weeks.

Step I : 237/96
Step II: 247/99

Did all of USMLE World - 67% overall. Read FA twice. Reviewed most of USMLE World again once (just read the answer at the end). Read Secrets once. Got score back in exactly 3 weeks.

First Aid wasn't very good. It was too bare bones. If I were to do it again, I would have just reviewed UW again and read secrets again. If you have mucho time, read Step Up to Medicine again. That would have been really good probably.

Good luck!

Step I: 240/97
Step II: 233/96

Did USMLE world twice, read FA twice... but over the course of several months. Did Step II DURING heavy interview season and did not study consistently for Step II + did it mid-fourth year. USMLE world average inthe 50's.....

GOOD LUCK!!!

Congratulations! Those are wonderful scores!

Step 1: 228
Step 2: 225/93
CS: Pass

USMLE world 80% completed, 63% average. I sorta read Secrets which I thought was helpful.

I think these are more "normal" scores according to the USMLE

I am an average to below average student and I consider USMLE as a great challenge that I was able to overcome. To others it may be trivial to have come up with scores such as 90's but with me I am proud to have come up with fair scores coz I know I did my best

Step 1: 197/81
Step 2 CK: 1st attempt 181/74 2nd attempt 205/84
Step 2 CS: Pass

Everybody is at their best if they believe they can achieve it. I may not be as brainy as most of you in the forum but I know I am making my stand.

Good luck to everyone

Step I: 238/96
Took the 3 week Kaplan course and did qbank.

Step II: 247/99
I kept pushing the exam back because I couldn't get motivated to study for it. Finally, I scheduled it on the last day of my eligibility period, with 12 days of dedicated study time. I planned on doing Secrets and USMLE world.

I got home the night before the study period with a sore throat and had a full blown case of the flu by the next morning...spent most of the next 5 days passed out on the couch. On the sixth day, a family friend died, another 2 days gone. Spent the next four days reading Secrets, got through it once. I was hoping to get an NBME exam done, but I didn't have time for that or USMLE world. I went in to the exam praying, came out a little shell-shocked, and when I got the email 3 weeks later, I made my mom check my score because I was too scared of what I would find.

:hardy:

P.S. Miniboards were good prep, as was doing rotations at good teaching sites.

I wish I had your test taking skills. Congrats! And I'm sorry about your friend. 🙁

Hey all,

I know it does not really matter at this point, but I still hate waiting on these scores.

What was the average turnaround time for your results? I know one poster said 3 weeks for emailed scores- does that sound about right?

I took it on 2/25- thanks!!!

Oh- and best of luck for the match!:luck:

I'm waiting on 2/18 scores...gah. :scared: Was ok the last two weeks but now especially with the match approaching I'm seriously about to go mad. :scared:

My eighth block was horrible and I'm terrified of being the exception to those of you who passed.

i hear ya!!! i took the exam on 2/26 and felt lousy after the exam...especially by the later blocks. i felt yucky after step 1 and it turned out ok so i am praying that is it the same thing. for anyone who cares: i studied about 3 weeks, averaged mid 50s on USMLEworld at beginning....60-70s at the end. did secrets, first aid. step 1 score was 238. i thought the exam was tough! i was able to narrow most questions answer choices down to 2 but was unsure of so many. yikes. i'll let everyone know how it turns out. i hope i can write back in a little bit and be a lesson that that it's OK to think you got slammed on the exam but still can pass/have a good score!

thought i should contribute since i benefited from this thread

step 1: 232
step 2: 234

i went through all of usmleworld starting out averaging in the 50's and ending around 60-65%. i felt the questions on usmleworld were harder and much more in depth than the real thing. i would definitely recommend step 2 secrets and boards and wards. i studied off and on during interview season for about 2 months.

Thank God - I haven't receive an email yet but checked the NBME site, saw my score report, and passed!!!

201/82, about 50% of usmleworld done with a cummulative average of 53%. I know it sucks compared to most of the posters here but I hope it helps reassure the more average joe/jane. 🙂 I had 217 on Step 1 for the record.

step 1: 257/99
USMLE World: 62% average (did half the questions)
Other resources: Boards and Wards (read it cover to cover once)
Step 2: 247/99

Pleasantly surprised by the score as I didnt feel great about the exam. My thoughts on USMLE world is that although the questions are good the answer choices are too picky (too similar) compared to the real test. I think it really doesnt matter which test resource you use as long as you use it to identify which areas you suck at and read up a bit and also to improve your pacing and exam stamina. As for this website, realize that people that do well on these exams are far more likely to post - I probably wouldnt have posted if I had been disappointed in my score so take it with a grain of salt and do the best you can.

Good luck to everyone.

Step 1: 219
USMLE World: 56% average (did about 1/3 of the questions - started out low 50s, ended high 50s to low 60s)
Other resources: Step 2 Secrets (read about 1/2 the chapters - very helpful)
Step 2: 218

I was really just looking to pass and not drive myself crazy with studying. I studied for about 3 weeks, doing about 1 hour test block per night and spending an hour going over the answers. I read Step 2 Secrets during downtime in the ER. The Saturday before the exam, I did 4 hour blocks in a row to build a little stamina. Overall, I kept the studying pretty low key and was pleased with my results... although I kind of wish I had studied a little less because I really didn't need to pass by that big a margin.

Say what! Don't you know that's blasphemy on SDN!

Congrats on getting Step II over with.

Just got my scores! Hopefully this helps/encourages someone out there. This prob goes to show that Step 2 is a lot better than 1.

Step 1: 205
Step 2: 222/92
Step 2 CS: pass
UW: 80% questions finished...avg 60%.
NBME 1: 227 (~3 wks before test)
NBME 2: 215 (~1 wk before test)

Mixed emotions. On one hand, I'm relieved to have passed and improved, on the other hand, I wished I had studied more and done better.

I spent 7 weeks studying, but didn't really go crazy until the last week or so. Maybe avg of 4hrs everyday? I used a combination of Falcon online videos which was pretty bad, ie watching someone read lecture notes to you when you have the notes in front of you. I had the Kaplan lecture notes, and read them only for Peds (during rotation) and OB. I also haphazardly read Secrets. Def some good stuff in there tho. Didn't touch FA even tho I bought it. Too skimpy I think.

USMLEworld average as above. Started out in the low low 50s, after a 3wks of falcon, i barely improved and freaked out. So I read Step Up Medicine, and did timed, unused UW questions based on system, rather than random sets. Scores started improving to the 60s. Med and Surg seemed to be my weak points according to UW. For some reason I seemed to be blowing Peds outta the water, consistently in the mid 70s, without even studying it. Ironically, my score report for the real thing showed mediocre results for Peds.

results for Step II came by email this morning

Step I: 239
Step II: 251

Thank God, as I will be reapplying next year following a fun day of scrambling yesterday.
The prep: I had a month vacay and suspected reapplication would be in my future, so I consoled myself with/passed the time by studying. I read Step-Up to Medicine, Secrets, and FA (OK, overkill), and did USMLE World, scoring 60-65% on full blocks in the beginning, 68-80% on full blocks by the end. I would say I put in 3 hour days for the first 10-12 days, 10-12 hour days for the remaining 10 days (i took a few days off here and there). On the day before my exam, I took the time to go through Qs and As that I had previously gotten wrong and read through the review chapters of secrets and FA.
For what it's worth, I thought secrets and USMLE world were awesome, FA a little tedious.

so i also got my step II scores today:
233/96. man. i am relieved....i really felt lousy the test day; so don't give up faith if you feel you got smoked on the exam day. good luck to everyone!!!

Mac&Cheese: Those are some killer scores. You didn't match anywhere? You don't have to answer if you don't want to (so as not to be intrusive and rude), but what gives ?

Hi got my score and promised myself to post if I PASSED!!!!
I got 218 on step 2
this was my 2nd attempt, 1st time I got 183

here is what I did:

1st time: 3week period: watched kaplan videos (waste of time); did 100% UW (avg 47%) (read thru answers quickly, done in tutor mode); read FA 3X (waste of time)

2nd time (and successful!!!): 3 week period: did 100% UW, in 46 random question timed blocks (avg 53%, trended upwards towards the end to 60-70%)--key: read all answers slowly, even if you get the question correct-- took notes on ALL questions, studied my notes-- this was very high yield!!!! I skimmed Crush 3 days before the exam (Crush is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than FA); only had time to do UW once (2300 questions is ALOT to read thru)--but after the exam, I was wishing I had time to do it 2X before the exam, cuz it is so high yield!!!

Thank GOD I passed!! Good Luck people...cheers...

it was one of those highly competitive specialties...
(and here i thought aoa from a top 50 school would be helpful as well...and im not even a total spaz or jerk...oh well)

Hi, I was wondering if there are any correlations with a 2nd run of USMLE world, as in, if you've done em once and lets say you got a 60, and then you do them again you got a 75.

is there any prediction to that effect?

I'm doing the same thing. I'm on my 2nd round of UW. Sometimes I know the answer already. But if I don't know WHY that's the right answer, I mark it, read the explanation and then I'm going to re-do those marked questions. If you are just answering the questions correctly just because you can remember the answers and can't answer the WHY, then your increased score is not very predictive.
