Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

I took mine on 7/30. My "Print Permit" link is still present. When I click it, i get a pop-up window with the message:

"Application error: Permit is not available. The candidate may have sat for the exam or the registration is no longer active."

My eligibility period is 06/01/2011 - 08/31/2011. Tomorrow will technically be 3 Wednesdays for me. I am just hoping and praying that I matched my step 1.

I want to know this:

If you fail the USMLE Step 2 CK, is your permit still good? Ie, if your permit was good through September, and you failed, would you be able to use the same permit to re-register for another sitting of the exam? Or do you have to apply for a new permit?

I think that's the key to figuring out if this whole "print permit" thing is actually a way to tell if you passed Step 2 or not.

well i can say from personal experience, I failed the step 4 times, and everytime i failed my permit was still available. Now i noted 2 days ago my permit was gone, and I passed this time, my 5th attempt,, so there must be some correlation, i know there was for me at least."

I guess we'll find out for sure tomorrow. :xf:

Thank you. I checked out that link and it looks like they were talking about Step 3, and the guy right under the above post said there is no correlation.

On p. 49 of this thread is this post:

Word on the street is if your permit disappears after you take your test but before your eligibility period is up, it means you passed. This makes sense because if you hadn't passed, you *might* want to squeeze in a retake before your eligibility period expires. I've heard that people that haven't passed have reported that their form stayed up. Just hearsay, but encouraging.

That seems to be the post that started all this stuff. Who knows. I hope with all my heart that it's true.

USMLE Step 1: 254
COMLEX Step 1: 597
OB/GYN Shelf: 75
Family Medicine Shelf: 83
IM Shelf: 99
Psychiatry Shelf: 95

Didn't take Surgery or Pediatrics shelf exams.

UWORLD Step 2: Did 60% of Qbank with 79% avg 1st time through
UWORLD Self Assessment: 268 10 days before exam

USMLE Step 2: Will update tomorrow. Currently freaking out :scared: and hoping I didn't mess up a good Step 1 score by taking it early........

Good luck to everyone getting there scores tomorrow! Hope for the best!

any idea what time they post the scores on wednesdays?

If its anything like step 1, I got my score around 10:30 EST (others in my class got if +/- 30 min or so). Waiting with the rest of you for what tomorrow brings. Hopefully did better than step 1.

JUST GOT MY SCORE!

199!

I know it's not a 278 🙂 But I'm not the typical graduate. I've been out for two years and the Step 2 was a very big mental and physical road block for me. Now I can finally get on with life and pursue my dream. No more screwing around with random jobs and other bizarre things!

I've been a college professor, a part-time instructor, computer programmer and I was even an officer in the Army all since med school. Thank god I finally quit screwing around, made myself study, and passed this god forsaken piece of crap test!

OH MY GOD!

Step 1: 212/89
MCAT: 22N
UW average (overall): 54%
UW average (last 6 blocks): 60%
NBME 2 (9 days before the test): 183 FAIL
NBME 4 (8 days before the test): 183 FAIL

Actual Step 2 CK: 219/94

219-183= +36

Don't even bother with the NBMEs on Step 2. They're garbage.

Guess I'd better get on that personal statement. Family medicine, here I come!

Congrats Guys!!! Did you get an email before you got the scores? My permit disappeared but no email or scores yet.

Got my email 20 min ago:

223/97

glad it's done. Also, email was at ~6am PST just like the previous USMLE emails. Congrats to all who passed, and good luck to those still waiting for scores.

Took the exam July 26'th,

UWSA - 235
Actual Step 2 ck - 235

I remember everyone complaining that day that this test was overly strange... Any July 26'er break into the 260's- 270's?

Damn ...... talk about accurate correlation ....Congrats..go celebrate!

And Congratulations to everyone else who passed the test.

Took exam 7/26.

Studied ~3 weeks before exam.
Used entire UW Qbank, secrets, and master the boards (only for peds & OB, thought the book sucked). Just did three full blocks daily and went over answers with reading interspersed.
Didn't bother with diagnostic tests.
Did very well.

Good luck to everyone. UWorld is the answer to this process. Actual test questions were often easier, though a tad longer.

Edit: meant to do diagnostic test. I refuse to take them 10 days or less prior to exam. Put it off and didn't end up doing any. Not really sure about usefulness... Also did very mediocre on step 1.

Step 1 - 228/98
Step 2 - 230/99

UWorld - 68% first time through

wow...i really don't know how to feel. I studied so much for this, more than even step 1....how will this reflect for the residency application process? I know on average you're supposed to do 10 points higher....

UWSA: 254
STEP 2: 252 😀

I went through UWorld completely while studying for shelf exams. Did not touch it again for Step 2.

Read through Step up to Medicine and First Aid for Step 2 and Step 2 Secrets about 3 times each. 1st pass - just read. 2nd pass - highlighted everything that wasn't already in my memory. 3rd pass - took notes on all the highlighted info that still wasn't committed to memory. Read through those notes about 3 times.

REALLY wish I had come up with this method for Step 1. Figured it out while studying for shelf exams.

Did the First Aid for Step 2 Q & A questions and Pretest Step 2 questions once.

No other resources besides what is listed above. But I did take IM last so all of that was fresh in my mind. I'd recommend IM immediately before Step 2 for EVERYONE.

NBME form 3 6/20 - 490 yikes
NBME form 2 6/27 - 540 ok better
UWSA 7/22 - 268
USMLE step 2 7/25 - 255/99

uworld avg 1st pass - 75%

i felt like i owned every bit of the usmle step 2 exam. i could reason out nearly every question. i know i missed a few because i ran out of time (2 questions i panicked near the end and incorrectly thought it out), but i seriously thought i would have done better for the amount i felt i scored correctly. the questions i was asked were incredibly easy, so maybe the percentages on each question were high so missing questions carried a high penalty. i was actually hoping i would have been asked harder questions. that was my experience.

did usmle rx and pretest during clinicals with one of the review books for ea specialty.
usmle world for boards, used FA step 2 (piece of junk, but I committed myself to it), step 2 secrets, went over SUTM quickly. i feel uwsa overestimates me by 13 points.

I guess we'll never know if the scheduling permit trick is legit or not. 🙄

I guess we'll never know if the scheduling permit trick is legit or not. 🙄

Due to the lack of information presented on this board regarding scheduling permits. I contacted NBME because I was freaking out. My permit had not disappeared and I took the exam July 30th, and people who took the exam August 1st did.

I was informed that the scheduling permit disappears the week of your score release. It has no reflection on whether you passed or failed. Maybe it was just a coincidence for those that had their permits present and failed, etc. It should disappear when scores are released and does not indicate status of exam

Hey guys,

I usually don't post much in this forum, but often read it to see what other people are saying. I took the step 2 CK on July 26th and definitely did not feel very confident after the exam. I just got my score!

Step 2 CK: 250/99👍

I just wanted to post this time, b/c I know there is def lot of people that did not feel very well after the exam and were wondering how the scores turned out.

Studying: I studied for about 4 weeks (8 hrs/day). I went through step up to step 2 x1 and uworld x1 (72% average). No self-assesments.

Studied for about 3 1/2 weeks during an easy rotation. Just used UW with SUTM for more in depth info. I cannot say enough how studying hard during 3rd year is essential.

Step 1: 199

UW Ave (random, untimed): 68%
NBME #4 (2 days before): 221
Step 2CK (6/23): 233/99

Good luck to everyone! Thank goodness that's over! Now onto finishing my personal statement.

Boo. I was really hoping our scores would come out today. I'm very worried, and now I have another week.

Used Step up to Step 2 (2x) + Secrets + USMLE World (1x)

NBME 4: 253 (2.5 weeks out)
USMLE World Step 2 Simulated Exam: 255 (1 week out)
USMLE Step 2 CK: 259
USMLE World: 73% average doing the whole qbank in blocks of 44 random unused questions. This was just about right on to the prediction stickied in this forum.

MS-3 shelf scores
OB: 65
Peds: 96
Surgery: 84
Medicine: 90
Neurology: 99
Psych: 97
Family: 91

I'd appreciate that. I'm in the score delay, so I'll be wondering for awhile.

Step 1: 235/99
Step 2: 256/99!! Yeah baby! (21 point increase!!)

UW 71%
UWSA 227
NBME 4: 270

The best correlator for me was the 100 cases Uworld step 2 correlator graph that someone made before.

I thought the test was easy. I estimated that I got about 80% correct on the test raw score, the rest guessed on. So happy with my score, was just hoping to get anything over 240. Got the results today 9 am sharp, eastern time.

I knew I should have waited a few days before checking back in on this thread. All of the 250+ scores are always a buzzkill!

Congrats to you all though. Beasts.

Congrats! I doubt my score will be quite as high, but I'd take a 21 point increase! I hope things go very well for you during interview season.

Took Step II CK on July 26.

Here is the breakdown...

Step I--247/99

Shelf scores (raw scores, not the "adjusted" scores the school gives)
1st shelf IM--92
2nd shelf OB/Gyn--94
3rd shelf Psych--"100" the psych department did not release this raw score...go figure?
4th shelf fam med--86ish? I had a tough time during this clerkship...definitely the outlier of the year...I was shocked with this score
5th shelf peds--96, was surprised by this score...felt it was a tough test
6th shelf sugery--98 (whooooo hooo) but hey it was the last one of the year and by that time it feels like all the shelfs are the same! The school actually refused to "adjust" this one lol

NBME CSSA taken "pre-study" the day after my last shelf exam (surgery): 253/600

Then, two weeks completely off, then two weeks of 8 hr study days later I took UWorld SA which was a three digit estimated score of 266 (+13 from pre-study NBME) if you can compare an Uworld SA and NBME?...

Study tools:
  • USMLE World (most helpful, most "high yield" for the exam IMO)
  • Internal medicine section only of Conrad Fischer's Master the boards book. The rest of that book is ridicilous! SOOOO vague and useless. Even the IM section is at times, but overall it was ok...I think Step Up to med. is better but it's just so out of date...I struggled with which one to read and ended up just using the IM sec of CF's MTB. I had also read step up to medicine for the IM shelf and then for the surgery shelf, so I wanted something new
  • OB/GYN--Nothing b/c I felt comfortable w/it. Was a mistake, wish I would have glanced through blueprints or kaplan notes at least.
  • Psych--my weakest scores across the NBME and Uworld SAs so I read First aid for psych. Very very glad I did but not sure how much it helped
  • Peds--Nothing, I was comfortable with it. Was a good decision, not high yield for my step 2 ck
  • Surgery--Had just finished the clerkship ...nothing here and felt the surgery questions were easier than the ones on the shelf
  • Biostats--Don't forget this, glad I didn't. I am very weak with this subject. Read HY Biostats...it's such an easy read, if you're not comfortable with NNT, sens, spec, PPV, NPV, cohort studies, etc etc then you should kick yourself if you skip studying this subject...IMO it's actually "high yield"

Impression of exam: Similiar to NBME I took pre-study with a twist...several (up to 15 or so) very obscure diagnoses/facts that were tested. Otherwise a fair exam, much better than Step I
I feel that UWorld was PLENTY, however OBGYN was a little too far away to have not looked over an actual review book/source for it. I feel that I was "stuck" on those questions often.

Joining the July 26 step II CK crew awaiting the scores!!!
Do most feel it will be Aug 17 for us? My "print permit" is still there if that acutally means anything...good luck to everyone and I'll post results when I get them...

ACTUAL STEPII CK--264/99
Up from step 1. My view is I could have always done better but I'm happy!

Step 1: 228
Step 2: 257/99

Used DIT for step 2. Definitely helped.

USMLE world was about 75%.

Forgot what my self assessment was (Pretty darn close though).

MCAT: 32
USMLE Step 1: 254
COMLEX Step 1: 597
OB/GYN Shelf: 75
Family Medicine Shelf: 83
IM Shelf: 99
Psychiatry Shelf: 95

Didn't take Surgery or Pediatrics shelf exams as my school doesn't require all of them and scheduling didn't work out.

UWORLD Step 2: Did 60% of Qbank with 79% avg 1st time through
UWORLD Self Assessment: 268 (10 days before exam)

USMLE Step 2: 258! (Thank god I didn't go down from Step 1)

UWSA and the Medfriends calculator overestimated my score but I think I might have gotten a little overwhelmed during the actual test this time. (In the future I wouldn't recommend looking up answers to questions you thought you missed..... it can freak you out a little if you miss something "silly".)

Congrats to everyone! Hope you all celebrate a little tonight.

For all those who are sweating their scores because they felt like the test went poorly, I felt TERRIBLE after this test and was worried I had really bombed it. So, there is hope!

Took CK today. I thought it was more vague and general than UW and the question stems on CK offered FAR LESS information than any UW q. As far as length of the questions - someone had said previously that they just seem longer bc of the resolution and I agree. They're on par with UW in terms of length. There were roughly 10 gimmies per block. The rest were 3rd-4th order questions. And then there were the "A 4 year old adopted febrile HIV+ girl born in Serbia is 34 weeks pregnant presents with painless vaginal bleeding, a pupruric rash and has a systolic and diastolic murmur on inspiration. What do you do next" myrr.. 😕

Breakdown of contents: Medicine>Peds>Psych>OBGYN>Derm???>Biostats>Ethics

Timing was off for me. I tried to keep at a good pace, but kept getting hung up on a few q's that completely threw me off. Know your preventive med for topics like HTN, TIA, DM, the usual suspects - I had a few q's every block. UW is definitely key. Master the boards is on the whole a great review book. STUM is better to start off with, but MTB nailed it for most of the topics. There were a significant number of pathophys q's that had more of a Step 1 feel to it. The most heavily tested topics were ID, Resp, Cards, Rheum, Shock, shock and more shock (I could've written down a novella on shock on those erase boards and still be left scratching my head). I had about 5-6 EKGs(medium difficulty), 3-4 Heart sounds (easy)...not much else media.

Overall, I thought it was more difficult than UW due to the vagueness of the questions - but I could've easily been over/underthinking. My studying was pretty disjointed and spread over 2 rotations, so my impression may be different from someone who has a better overall understanding. Hopefully the score report will be kind :xf:
Good luck!!!

Step 1: 238
Step 2: 247

Avg UW (timed/random 44) 71%
NBME 2 (week before studying) 202
NBME 4 (2 weeks into studying) 218
UWSA (5 days before exam) 265

:beat: but UW is awlllsome. I used SUTM+MTB and a little of Secrets. Wish I had used Secrets earlier on, it's a great little book for reinforcing concepts. Having a few more weeks of uninterrupted study would've been great, just to get the hang of doing a few hours of questions a day. I was exhausted by the 5th block and a 5hr energy got me through. I did most of the medicine Kaplan vids during my medicine Sub-I, had a week off to study and took the beast the Monday after (can you say scheduling nightmare?). Best advice I can offer, in retrospect, is do the Kaplan vids + UW questions during your core rotations.

Congrats to everyone w their scores today and good luck to those still waiting!

Geez, did everyone who did well breeze through this? Maybe I'm just stressing, but I took it recently and I thought it was pretty hard...
My impression:
-33%: Gimme's
-60%: <50% confidence in my answer
-7%: pick a letter, any letter...and move on.
Step 1: 230 (thought it went bad, too)
My prep was: 3.5wks
UW x1: 65%
UWSA (4d before): est 222 (!)
Free NBME: 86%
Real thing: TBD

Ha ha. Thanks! I am a classic example of self-selective posts skewing the SDN mean. I never posted my Step 1 because it was average (true average, not SDN average)...but I was pretty proud of my 31 point increase to Step 2 so I had to post my new score in this thread.

So to everyone that didn't do remarkably on Step 1, you can definitely rock Step 2. The funny thing was I studied less than half the amount for Step 2 as I did Step 1. I just get the clinical stuff way better than the basic science crap.

Step 1: 249
UWorld % (2nd pass): 76
UWSA: 263
Step 2: 262

studied for 3 weeks. used First Aid & Step Up to Step 2.

thanks for all the advice, sdn!

Step 1: 251
UWSA 1: 4 weeks out 242
NBME 4: 3 weeks out 252
Step 2: 267

UWorld %: 77 (though it was my 2nd time through, because I used it for my 3rd year clerkships).

Studying
Books: Read Step up to step 2 early on, read master the boards in mid and reread renal/CV/Resp and ID during last week. Read Secrets during last week. Also used the Kaplan flash cards, which I thought were very helpful. I've always had trouble with physical diagnosis, and the physical diagnosis cards were worth every penny.
Q's: Using onenote I copied the educational objectives of every question and took notes under this if needed (why it wasn't another answer). I then studied the crap out of these notes during the last 2 weeks.

Test Day
Lots of pictures, lots of weird hospital management questions (how to deal with ****ty interns etc...). Also had a lot of OB. Left the place feeling broken. Turned out okay though.

Now, I plan on watching TV for weeks, not getting up until I get a DVT.

Good luck everyone. And remember, keep things in perspective.

Step 1: 228/98
UW 1st pass: 68%
Step 2 CK: 213/90

I studied for 8 weeks, did UW twice (1st pass: 68% and 2nd pass 78%), read Step up to Medicine and Secrets. The actual test was pretty difficult, but not impossible. I marked about 8-10 questions per section (because I wasn't 100% sure of the answer). I'm pretty sure I was more than ready and then I got that score back. Very disappointing. I don't know what more I could have done. I now may have to change what I'm applying for because of this stupid score.
