Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

If scores are usually released 9:15 am est, it looks like today won't be the release date. Still early though, I hate waiting like this.

I think it traditionally comes out at 11am

No scores for me yet either (took it 7/25). No email at 10AM if that's what is suppose to happen. Here's hoping for 11AM scores...I can't wait another week.

exact same situation here...

Alright, talked to one of my friends. He took exam Friday, July 6th, and got it back less than 3 weeks later on Wed July 25th. They emailed him around 10:45 AM eastern and scores were up 15 mins later.

Took the exam yesterday. It felt a lot more difficult than any nbme or uwsa. Not very many easy questions. Everything was so vague. I felt quite confident walking into the exam but feeling quite the opposite now. It was full of ob/gyn and peds. A good amount of stats also. Do not forget to review stats. Questions are long, longer than uworld. Those drug ads were crazy!

Nbme 3- 220
Nbme 4- 230
uwsa- 224
uworld avg first round- 62%, 2nd round- 81%
Used mtb step 2 for medicine and mtb step 3 for everything else. Skimmed through secrets once.

Lets see what happens. It is going to be a long 3-4 week wait.

The scores are in! Quite happy with my score of 239 since I really thought I had failed. Thank God for His mercy.
Only a 2 point increase from my step 1 score of 237. Good luck to all waiting for their scores. This forum has really helped through the prep for this crazy exam. Goodbye CK forum, see you guys in the step 3 forum!

The doses for anxiety are fairly low. I've used it before, but all it does is curb the physical effects. Your brain still may panic. It is great for music performance and speeches because the physical manifestation of the anxiety can mess up how well you perform. (not that it can't with tests, but I find it is a mind racing thing)

Just got this e-mail as well. Took my test July 25. I'm at Starbucks drinking a coffee. No clue why, I've barely taken a sip and I feel like I drunk a thermos full.

step1- 217
uworld( throughout 2nd half of year)-timed, random ~60%
uworld (reset 4wks out )- timed, random ~85%; took notes on all questions and organized via subsection, had just under 4 weeks of vacation for dedicated study time, primary study=uworld, notes, and secretsX3
uworld SA (2 weeks out)-235
NBME 4 (1 week out) -245
step2-254

Step 1: 243
Step 2: 266

I had 4 NBME exams in the 95+ range, one in the low/mid 80s and then a bad day where I got a 60th percentile. (I knew I dropped the ball on that one because I wasn't processing like usual)

Did uworld and multiple question books throughout the year. Cleared out uworld as went through it again over a 2 month-ish span and then did all missed and marked at least once more, which translated to about a 1,000 - 1,500 questions. I had two electives that were more time intensive than I planned and then 8 full days off to study

Read step 2 secrets, master the boards, most of white coat step 2 book and occasional reference of step up to step 2. It was really glazing over to the point I wouldn't say I remembered much of anything.

Really, the key is consistent effort throughout the year and lots and lots of questions with reading the answers an understanding all explanations, as well as the cues and things to look for in the stems.

hi i wanna ask if i got a 193 score ... which is a just pass .. do i have any chances of residencies??

YES, a friend of mine who is an IMG matched into a university program in peds. He did, however, have one year of research. Btw, both his step 1 and ck were in the 190's.

Took the test today. Felt kinda blah while I was taking it. Either the questions were really obvious (tons of identifiers) or were really vague (scenario that made two or three ddx's possible and required you to assume the most common disease was the diagnosis). The pharm ads and abstract were pretty straight forward, as was the biostats. Pretty even distribution of topics. Plenty of resp, cardio, neuro, and GI. Not much renal. Quite a few management questions where the clinical scenario didn't seem like enough info to make the decision (like one question where a patient had a posterior knee dislocation with obvious arterial occlusion, they reduced it and said the patient could move again, then asked next step. Do nothing, arteriography and duplex were all choices. Without knowing if moving= revasc because there was no follow up pulse exam, tough to make that call. I wanted to do compartment pressures, but that wasn't an option). In general, it seemed tough but fair. Felt a lot like my experience with NBME 2 and UWSA.

Prep time: 3.5 weeks dedicated study. Took one whole weekend off and relaxed for a few days between UWSA and NBME 2.
Materials: DIT lectures, all x 1., all of Step up to step 2, all of step 2 secrets once.
Only managed about 20% of UWorld focusing mostly on weak areas. Random timed blocks were 69%. I had just finished my medicine clerkship and had done all of MKSAP, so the majority of the material was fresh except Peds and OB.

(3.5 weeks out) NBME 1: 209
(2.5 weeks out) NBME 3: 218
(1.5 weeks out) NBME 4: 232
(1 week out) UWSA: 245
(2 days out) NBME 2: 251

I honestly don't feel like this went as well as the last two practice tests. I will know in 3-4 weeks though.

Good luck to those who are taking it soon, and congrats to those who have finished.

Results today: 253. Very pleased.

Additional info.-
Step 1: 237
Shelf Exams: 68, 83, 84, 64, 81, 73, 83 (Peds, Family, Psych, OB, Surg, Neuro, IM).
Yes. They were all over the place.

At the very least, I can say that while UWorld is helpful, it is not a necessity to get a decent score. DIT was money for me (hit a lot of areas I was deficient in) and I felt like Secrets helped a lot.

Hope this is helpful to some. Best of luck!

Step 1: 233, underwhelmed...regretted letting the pressure get to me on test day

Shelf Scores: IM 85, Peds 82, Psych 87, Surg 69, ObGyn 72, Neuro 86

Step 2: 263 😱 😀

For Step 2: 3.5 weeks of dedicated study time. Read 60% of First Aid, 90% of Secrets, and completed 70% of UWorld during third year. Finished UWorld and reviewed all incorrect and marked questions. UWorld average after first time through was 72%. Beat the ones I get getting wrong to death.

NBME 4: 235
UWSA: 256

Walked out of Step 2 demoralized and worried I would end up doing worse than Step 1. Felt exhausted towards the end and thought I was missing questions right and left. Marked 6-10 questions per block. Spent the past few weeks fixating on what I knew I got wrong, so this came as a total surprise. Couldn't be happier with my score!

Applying to IM residencies. Hope my bump from Step 1 to Step 2 counts for something. *fingers crossed*

Awesome job dude! We're going to kill it this year 😀

NBME 4 - 188
NBME 2 - 239
UWSA - 232
NBME 1 - 249

Step 2 - 233 - pleased since I walked out of the exam feeling like I had failed. Good luck to all of you!!!!

Step 1 - 230
Step 2 - 255
Shelf exams were between 72-75 except Ob which was a 60.
Uworld 56% (tutor mode during 3rd year); 72% (timed, random during prep)
No practice tests before the exam

Felt like I was in haze while taking this test (took benadryl to sleep the night before). I used FA, Step 2 Secrets, and Uworld. I forced myself to do Uworld mainly to annotate FA. I then reset and re-did it. I didn't feel like I remembered too much, partly because I did a terrible job during my first run through. FA was good but somewhat excessive. Secrets was a nice review. The exam felt a lot like Uworld and I would spend the majority of your time on that than on anything else. Good luck!

Uworld Avg: 75%
NBME 4: 251

I spent 3.5 weeks studying while on a very chill rotation (ambulatory medicine, usually had 4-5 half-day clinics per week and scattered lectures). Used Uworld and Doctors in Training. Also read ~50% of Step 2 Secrets.

Step 2: 263!

I'm in a state of shock. I felt terrible walking out of the exam.

So... I took the exam on 7/24 and no scores for me today. "Print Permit" link still up... should I take that as a sign of anything?

Did you take it in the US or outside of the country? I thought I read on another forum that people taking it outside the US were having to wait longer to get their scores. I took mine 7/25 and got my score today. Anyone taking it July 21-27 should've gotten their score today if taken inside the US.

Step 1: 250
NBME 2 (2 wks out) 251
NBME 4 (1 wk out) 256
UWSA (3 days prior) 262

real deal: 265. kinda shocked. I used DIT, Uworld, and skimmed secrets the day before. I found UW to be the most helpful; DIT was good because it kept me on a schedule. I studied for 3.5 weeks, 8 hours/day. good luck to everyone still waiting!

Step 1: 207 (truly felt I had failed..awful experience: had a panic attack at beginning of exam and then a migraine/stress headache at the end)
USWQbank avg: 69% (raw, first pass, only finished about 1/2 of it)
Uworld Self Assesment 1: 245
NBME 4: 230
Step 2CK: 230 😀

I am a little dissapointed that I didn't totally blow it out of the water with 240-260 range, but I have to be pleased that I have a 23-point improvement from Step 1!! I felt like NBME 4 was very similar to my actual exam, and clearly the score correlated. I also felt like the breakdown of my score subsets was very similar to how I performed on shelf exams during 3rd year. Looking back I wished I had completed all of my Uworld Qbank, but it was very difficult as a first pass and juggling First Aid and Secrets with it, all within 3 weeks (plus a husband!).

Preparation:
-Kaplan Qbank throughout 3rd year + shelf exam prep
-3 weeks of dedicated study prior to exam
-Step 2 First Aid (very thorough study of it during first 1.5 weeks, then used it again in last week to review key concepts...did the rapid review section day prior)
-UworldQbank (completed about half which is like 1000 something questions, mainly did questions days 5-1 prior to exam)
-Secrets (read it all during week 3 of study, and reviewed top 100 secrets day before exam)

Good luck to those awaiting score reports and to those who have yet to take it! 🙂

Awesome job dude! We're going to kill it this year 😀

Thanks, homeskillet. 😛

I forgot to mention that the most accurate assessment was NBME 4 for me, which I took at the very beginning of studying. Really seems to show diminishing returns with studying after a point.

Step 1 - 216
Step 2 - 245

Dedicated 3.5 wks to study. Uworld (x2 --- high 60s/low 70s on first pass... then mid 80s). Mixed time section (2 blocks per day increasing as I went along. No more than 4 blocks per day). Reviewed Secrets x2 (once during easy rotation/once during last wk before exam).

Walked out of exam feeling meh.. didn't feel as bad as Step 1. Overall, very satisfied with my jump.

Congrats. Personally, I'm more impressed by jumps like that because I feel it shows you changed your study habits. I'm not a PD, so it doesn't matter, but still. 😛

Step 1: ...
UWSA 1 week out: 250
Step 2: ...

Studied for about 2 1/2 weeks. I read SUtM and skimmed FA for Step 2. Did 50% UWorld Qs (70% avg). Definitely had a case of senioritis. I was hoping for more (who doesn't), but I'm glad I got better than my Step 1 and to be honest, I did not have the energy to study for another second (I even moved my test up 2 days).
Hopefully, this should be enough not to close any doors for peds.
Good luck to everyone who hasn't taken the test yet!

Step 1: 259

With this in mind, I wasn't sure I should take Step 2 early but my hand was forced. I didn't take time off after third year, studied for 2 weeks and took the test. My sources were SUTM and DIT for Step 2 as a pacemaker. Didn't touch SUS2 but used SUTM to follow DIT. I also did about 1/3 of the USMLE Weapon Q-Bank (I would recommend for the gunners who finished World and want to do more Q's). I finished third year with medicine which was a blessing. Here's my progression.

World %: 75%
NBME 2 (pre-study): 235
NBME 4 ( 1 week out): 246
Free 150 (4 days out): 94%, 257

Real Deal: 259 😀

Couldn't be happier to break 250 but disappointed I fell-short of 260 again by ONE point but oh well. My take on Step 2 is that it is a seemingly tougher exam and many people, inculding myself, walked out feeling like we bombed this thing. However, staying confident and maintaining composure were key. I would also highly advise planning out a schedule, it helped me stay focused and fresh as Step 2 CK takes more energy to complete and work through Q's than Step 1. Good luck to all!

Are you joking?? 246/253 hoping for peds?...stop it, you cant be that dense...

UWorld: 73% first time through
UWorld Simulated Exam: 256 (took 1 week before my exam)
Step 2 CK score: 260
(Step 1 Score: 243)

Studied for 3 1/2 weeks, however, had internal medicine as my last rotation before I began studying. During internal, I read Step Up to Medicine over the course of 8 weeks, did pretest as well and scored 97th percentile on my shelf exam.

During my 3 1/2 weeks of studying, I put in about 10 hours max a day and did DIT and Uworld qbank about a time and a half. I also read select chapters from Master the Boards, which I wish I would have read the whole book because I thought it was great and an easy read. If all else fails, practice questions should be your mainstay of studying.

All-in-all, I was a lot more relaxed on step 2 than I was on step 1. I felt like I didn't put in enough effort like I had in the past, but looking back at it, I'm glad I didn't kill myself over studying. For those of you that are studying or will be taking it this year, take a deep breath and relax. You'll do great.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey guys...I come here hoping someone can make sense of this for me since I have been having trouble doing so. I took a NBME practice test yesterday and was very disappointed with my score. I got what translates into a 218. My Uworld scores timed questions has been anywhere from 70%-79%. I have about two weeks left until the exam and would like to score at least a 230 to bump up my score from step 1. This would be a 13 point increase which shouldn't seem unreasonable, but I was reading that NBME practice exams especially form 2 the one I did is quite reflexive. If anyone have any clues or advice or if the practice tests were accurate for them? Thanks

i think you'll maximize your potential on the real exam if you focus more on continuing to learn rather than trying to predict your score with a practice exam. i know it's hard to resist, but the nbme's are so inefficient to study that you can't learn much from taking them, aside from getting a test-day routine rehearsal. if you want a practice exam, take one that allows you to study the question explanations (such as kaplan, uworld, or similar). anyway, good luck!

Imdboo is right. I did the 4 NBMEs just as a way to gauge how my studying was progressing during the 3.5 weeks I studied. They are not useful as an educational tool and more useful if you just take it, check the score, and move on with your day. I just personally "like" taking tests so it was nice to get an idea on how my studying was going.

Having said that, the NBMEs are also fairly different from each other so they aren't even that great to compare. I took them in this order: 4, 1, 3, 2. I personally found 4 and 1 to be the easiest and 3 the hardest. 2 was in between. Unlike Step 1, I ended up scoring higher on my Step 2 exam than on my NBME practice tests.

Well, when you hear CHOP people bragging about their 250s average on STEP 1, it's certainly not reassuring 🙄

But I'm trying to get into a CA program, coming from the East coast, which is pretty competitive, and since there's all this secrecy around applicants' test scores (would it really hurt them to publish average scores??), I have no idea where I fall compared to others.

Sorry if I was inadvertently bragging, definitely not my intention.

Thanks for your input, I have heard from others that their nbme score and actual step 2 score differed which is good news. I was just getting worried because my nbme scores and Step 1 score were within 2 points of each other. I'll have to take another one in a week just to see what areas are week, and may consider taking a kaplan or usmle world one as well. I'm just trying to do pathology and was told by the residency coordinator at my school that they look at step scores pretty heavily because the path boards are very hard to pass.
