Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

How accurate is UWSA in predicting actual scores? I read some posts indicating that it predicted their score well. I just took it today, got 240, and not sure what to make of the score given that all the band are wide (indicating inconsistency!!). Thanks.

Any one???

IMg scores are out. 261. Happy. One question. My 2 digit score says 86. I don't understand. I thought it should say 99. Can anyone help. Sorry for the broken English. I'm typing from an I pad and I am not very well versed with it.

@match2011, you too? Thank goodness I'm not alone. Does anyone have an idea as to why the 2 digit numbers are being reported differently?

252/85???? (good thing is they are not sending the 2 digit anymore)

Studied about 8 weeks, felt like pure trash after I took the exam.

UWSA 245 1 week before
Uwolrd Avg. 71%

Just saw the usmle.org website and it says they have made changes to the reporting pattern for 2 digit scores. So nothing to worry about.

congrats for the great score.obviously ur 3 digit score(as everyone was reporting score as 99 now it seems odd to see 86/261 though it doesnt make any difference). What scores you got in ur uworld, uwsa and nbmes?

Thanks. USWA was 252 and nbme 4 was 249. UW first pass was 75 in random mode but subject wise. The reason for using subject wise was that UW was my primary studying aid and it helped me study easier. After a second pass of all my marked questions, it improved to 79.

The test was more like the USWA. Studied hard for 3 weeks with UW and FA. But I also studied continously during school till graduation which was in August and that helped the most.

UWSA: 249

Crammed for 1 week, did 2500 UWorld questions, made sure to review all the explanations, where I think the true $$ value of UWorld lies. (I realize that's a lot of questions for 1 week, I promise I'm not a troll, I just read really fast)

UWorld average: 74%

Step II 266

I would be stoked, except my boyfriend broke up with me last night. Now I can't bring myself to care too much about anything.

Congrats.Thats great score and i believe that u r not a troll but u must mention ur shelf scores bc u must have great baseline knowledge to begin with as just doing uworld for a week isnt sufficient for any ordinary student to get such high scores.and u averaged 74 pc on uworld and 249 on uwsa(which are really good but dont correlate well with score of 266) so that also just shows that ur knowledge apart from that u gained from uworld was probably more useful during ur exam

Shelfs in order taken:

Internal Med: 90 (95th percentile)
Neuro: 84 (93rd percentile)
Psych: 99 (99th percentile)
Surg: 87 (96th percentile)
Peds: 90 (96th percentile)
Ob-Gyn: 80 (84th percentile)
Family: 94 (99th percentile)

Hey quick update, took my exam a couple of days back, dam that felt hard. there were like 5-8 questions per block that i was just sorta guessing based on instincts. Also I ran outta time for the last question on 6 of the blocks. Kinda worried how I did now, since I cant seem to remember much of the questions which was unlike step 1 where i came out and pretty much remembered most of the questions i had trouble with. For what its worth, i ran outta time on step 1 too, left about 8 questions on that test.... Anyone else have trouble with time? or was it just me?

254 / 85, Super happy with my score, was initially scared when i saw my two digit score, then went on the usmle.org website and read about how the new two digit scores are supposed to be lower, i probably lost bragging rights with a couple of my friends, but as an img am super happy that they moved away from the two digit scores, mean and sd for the win!!!

My UWSA was 253 if i remember correctly, and as with most thing i have found on sdn, the UWSA was more predictive for step 2 ck than the nbmes for me.

Thanks to Kryptik and everyone else who left comments on here, its been a pleasure having you a part of my journey. Thanks guys.

Congrats. Great score! I'm sorry for the break up.

Im gonna be taking the CK in december. I dont get what is wrong with the 2 digit scores?? Why are they so drastically different?? Why would they all of a sudden decide to change the correlation of the 2 digit scores since the 2 digit scores are no longer being reported to residencies anyways?? Makes no sense to me. If anything it adds further confusion seeing an 84 and a 260 in the same report..

It seems like the new two digit score is percentile, isn't it?

yeah, i get the feeling that the new two digit is a percentile now, which is weird, because all the older docs i talk to seem think the two digit score has been a percentile all along, so they kinda made the false belief come true?

Congrats. Great score! I'm sorry for the break up.

:-/ Thanks for the congrats and the condolences, I guess it's better that it happened now than after March, now I won't take him into consideration with my rank list. 🙁 I suppose that's good.....still sucks.

As far as the two digit thing is concerned, I'm going to ignore it from now on. They aren't reporting it to residencies anymore anyways, it's for some government reporting thing.

If the usmle hasnt changed the passing score ie 75 then its definitely not a percentile(in that case it would mean that only 25 percent of test takers would pass it which is impossible). If people who havent managed to pass or those with low scores post that would help to come to conclusion.Having said that it really doesnt matter whether its a percentile or not so no point in discussing this issue.

It absolutely matters. Residency programs may think (like many of us) that the 2-digit score is a percentile. Take the following residency program: http://path.upmc.edu/brochure/residency/Residency-FAQs.pdf

The good news, like mentioned above and at the USMLE website, is that the 2-digit score will no longer be reported to those who will view your residency application. Note that there are also articles published that use the 2-digit score to correlate with subspecialty board pass rates. Why the 3-digit score isn't used, I don't know.

And this is the very reason that it doesnot matter.Didnt want to write a whole paragraph stating the obvious.

could it be that its a percentile of the 3 digit score but the pass is set as 75the percentile?

not likely that its centile of 3 digit score as recently mean was 233 with standard deviation of 23 so person with 210 would be having a 3 digit percentile of 16.that would be funny though if someones 2 digit is reported as 16(as opposed to very large number of 99s v used to see) and would be reported as pass

Anyone expecting their CK scores in the next week ???
I don't know what to worry about anymore my application or the result.

Hi,

I dont know about u guys but I am solving UW after each specialty that I finish..and take notes as I go. My UW are obviously higher (av 79%). So is that a good strategy? I plan to take my exam on Feb 2012 and currently studying kaplan LN. Or should I push back UW till I finish LN to see where I really stand in UW?
Please, I would reallllyy appreciate ur advice!

Thanks!

Step 1: 227
Step 2: 272

Studied for 3.5 wks. About 12 hours/day.
Uworld 74% average x1 (random, untimed)...then another 800ish questions before I got bored with repeats.
Kaplan 400 questions before asking for a refund.
USMLERx x1
First aid CK x5
Step Up CK x4
Secrets x4
Mcmumbi podcast x1
Substance P podcast x1
Step Up to Medicine x1
First aid for Medicine x1

I also asked for a refund after doing an odd number of Kaplan questions and having gone through UWorld twice already. I needed a question bank two weeks orior to my exam. I for one thought the questions were ridiculously stupid but that's my IMO. I just found it interesting you too asked for a refund. One things for sure, they have great customer service.

I guess it depends on multiple factors. For Step 1 the NBME practice exam predicted my score to the T and my UWSA was off about ten points ( taken 5 and 3 days out respectively). For Step 2 my NBME exam ( taken 4 days out) predicted 230s and UWSA (taken 3 weeks out) predicted 269. My actual score was a 267. But I think UWSA has had a good rep for predicting STep 2 scores based on the input of this forum.

Oct. 6, it takes 3-4 weeks to get your score. If you take it on a monday or tuesday it takes 4 wednesdays, if you take it on wednesday, thursday or friday it takes 3 wednesdays.

That's bogus. It took 6.5 long weeks for my exam and 8 weeks for my friend's score to come back ( she took it two weeks before me and we received our scores on the same release day which was a FRIDAY, go figure) But then again we took our exam in August right after all the new changes.

Thank you! Congrats on the great score 🙂

Don't post much, but this thread helped me a lot and stressed me out a lot too. 🙂

Step 1: 205/85
UWorld average, first pass, random, timed: 55%
UWSA 3 weeks out: 198 :scared:
Step 2 CK: 241/83

I used Crush, which I didn't like, and then First Aid, which I liked. During a light rotation, I did UWorld once all the way through on random and timed and ended up with an average of 55%, I think. Then over a three-week break, I went through the questions I got wrong as well as questions for subjects I did poorly on.

I hope this helps some people out there who didn't do as well on Step 1.

Took it yesterday, I'll update w/ my score later.

Overall I thought it was pretty tough, but not out of this world. About 1-2 questions per block totally out of left field, another 5-6 extremely difficult, the rest were pretty straightforward. Half were probably asking for the most likely diagnosis, 25% for next step in management and the remainder about some underlying pathophys. Only a few scattered questions on pharm, none difficult. Lots of pictures of rashes and private parts. Overall, really similar to shelf exams.

I studied two weeks for this, used Uworld and MTB Step 2. As others have said, Uworld was money, but I didn't actually think MTB was all that great. Interestingly, I got several questions right b/c of stuff I remembered from Goljan audio.

Uworld: 90% overall
UWSA: 800, est 268.
Step1: 270
Shelf exams: took obgyn, surgery, IM, neuro and psych, got 99 on each
Step2 CK: 288
.

That's awesome! Congrats. I'm in the same boat (step 1 209, i think maybe 56% on UW and only finished ~75% of the qbank) and I peaked at 75% the week before the exam then dipped to the 60's then upper 50's and then a couple in low 60's. My score comes out next wednesday and I hope for a score like yours!

Thanks lavodnas and Menzy3045!

And my goodness turkeyjerky, I don't think I've ever seen a 288 reported on any step of the USMLE. Pure beast.

Holy hell. 288. Awesome. That is the highest score I've seen reported on SDN.

Congrats turkeyjerkey.

😕 241 was an 83?

yeah they changed the way the two digit scoring system works, a 240 is like an 83 now...and yet imgs still cling to two digit scores and refer to them as percentiles..obviously not on sdn though.

See my previous post. IMGs are not the only ones guilty of this. I've seen more than one residency program refer to the two-digit score as a percentile.

And what about The back cover of USMLE Step 2 Secrets. Adam Brochert, MD is claimed to have made in the 99th percentile on Step 2. Can we assume this is his educated guess given a probable >270 or did he simply make > or equal to a 226 and assume his 99 meant it was a percentile?

I don't know what the big deal is about 2 digit scores anyway. As long as Programs will only be reported the 3 digit score..who cares what the 2 digit is. I'll take 235+ any day of the week and they can call it 76 for all I care!

Thought it was strange that many of you were receiving such low 2-digit scores with exception 3-digit scores (congrats btw!). Found this on USMLE.org website and think that it should spread some light. I got a 99, but had a 3 digit score of 246 and I took it at roughly the same time as many of you. Looks like I took the test 3 days before they changed things. From what I've read around the net, there are an abudance of 3-digit scores that are higher than anything that's ever been reported, but that may be sour grapes from medical students (like myself lol) who are jealous of scores like 288. Almost unheard of...in fact, highest legit score I've ever seen evidence of before the scores being reported lately was 274...anything about 265 was very very exceptional. Anyway, not sure what's going on with the scores, but congrats to all of you who have done so well! Here is the website which may give some info to your questions...
