Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

Feedback:
UWorld 72% (all 44 question blocks, timed mode by subject)
NBME2 245 (1/2 way through studying)
NBME4 260 (1 week prior to test)
Step1 250

Actual Exam 257

How I studied:
I used a combination of first aid CK and step up 2 medicine as a core text, annotated everything from UWorld answer explanations into those texts, and flipped through USMLE secrets.

I studied for 4 weeks because my school has no shelf exams (and I felt unprepared). I also haven't done my OBGYN clerkship yet (long story).

In terms of the actual test:
I remember coming out of the testing thinking it had been really hard. I was unsure of and marked 11-15 of questions per block. There were no questions that I had absolutely no idea about.

Overall, I felt it was similar to the NBME practice tests. I was surprised by the amount of biostats I had on the real thing though. The questions weren't particularly hard, but I had more than I had on step1 which I thought was odd.

Things I wish I had done differently:
- I would NOT have gone back through uworld a second time. I did about 500 questions in my last week of studying (averaging 98% correct) and since I had seen them so recently I was able to breeze through them (finishing a 44 question block in about 20 minutes). When I got to the real test, I freaked a little bit because I didn't immediately know the answers to questions. I had to calm myself down after the first two blocks and pay much better attention to my timing.
- Probably should have taken OBGYN first... oh well

To people who have taken the test:

How prevalent are all of the surgery things with respect to Step 2? I mean I used to know the Pestana notes inside and out with all of the formulas, burn calculations, etc. but should I read through all of that again (I used the Kaplan pestana book)?

Although surgery is of course tested by step 2, it is not efficient to review all of pestana. Best to use your step 2 review book for surgery as well.

Although I have not read Pestana, I took CK and felt that the questions were similar to those in UWorld. There were lot of questions regarding when to get a CT scan, when to do laparotomy, etc.

Glad to hear that UWorld was similar to the questions. I am really relying on UW for surgery given that the review books do not have alot on surgery topics!!!

Recent test takers... for Peds, how were questions on the real exam and does UWorld cover most topics? I found UW to have alot more info than the review books on Peds more than any other subject, with surgery a close second.

I took the UWSA back at the end of February, out of interest to see where I was without any formal study time. When I finished, I did not go over any of the answers. I want to take it again in a couple of weeks. Has anyone else tried this? I'm hoping I don't remember any of the questions.

Recently took the UWSA with the a predictor of 226 but kind of weird how I scored all over the place for the Individual blocks (45%, 61%, 80%, 82%). I know I made a lot of dumb mistakes in the first two blocks so hopefully just some final reading and reviewing will get me to where I would like to be.

I took the UWSA today also, did about 10 points better than my NBME 4. But I made some really dumb mistakes... especially on the first block. My scores weren't all over the place, but went up consistently (1st block lowest, 4th block highest).

My exam is next Monday! Hope its possible to push 5-10 points in 1 week Thinking of running through as many uworld questions as I can. Anyone have other advice?

I cannot stress how important the following topics are. I had at least 7+ questions on the following topics:

1- Peds Immunodeficiencies

2- PPD Test results and what do you do next? Eg. Healthcare worker with 13mm induration? Admit? CXray? Free to go? Many questions like this.

3- sensitivity specificity calculations (felt like step 1)

Finally one thing, my exam on my 8th block had only 28Qs. It freaked me out... Is my exam broken? Is this an error at the center?

No this apparently does happen. You still get 1 hour for the whole block. Those questions did not seem any more convoluted than the other blocks. I finished my last block with 20 minutes to spare. Don't worry if this happens to you. When I get my results I will share.

Are pharmacology questions on the exam similar to the pharm on UW? (which I feel are very fair, significant side effects or important drugs)

Also, I assume we need to know the different types of defense mechanisms which keep coming up on UW Psych...

My last block was about the same as yours, and unlike what others have mentioned I found it exactly the same difficulty as all my previous blocks, leaving me lots of spare time which was nice to have at the end.

Yeah, that's lame. It happens, but it didn't happen to me. Mine had 45 super hard questions. I wished I could have only done 28 super hard questions. Lucky...

Hey guys,
Just wondering if any of your permit links have disappeared, and the date you took the exam. I'm getting so tired of waiting haha! Took mine June 25.
Thanks in advance!

Took the exam today and I would say it was very fair. Mine had a lot of Ob/Gyn and Peds questions with a decent amount of psych questions [some of which were not straightforward as they seem in uworld]

Also I had the same type of blocks as someone above with 28 questions on my last block and it was the same difficulty as the rest. Don't really feel too confident as I am kind of bad at OB but we shall see in couple weeks. Good luck to the rest of you guys!

so, i just took uwsa and scored a 580/236...

i took the test inadvertently five weeks ago before any review whatsoever. i got the uworld subscription and figured the self-assessment was a 'pre-study' thing. didn't do too well.

when i took it this time, i truly didn't remember more than maybe ten questions. i've done all 2000+ questions of the uworld qbank so that helped to muddle my memory.

just curious what you all think about whether it's a decent approximation for me or not, considering i did take it a little over a month ago.

i appreciate the help.

Take an NBME bud. If it matches your Take 2-UWSA, then that's where you stand.

Took CK today, feels good to be done (in a headachy sort of way) 🙂 I used Uworld x1.5 with occasional reference to SUTM, tried MTB 2/3 but wasn't a fan. Took NBME 4 (2 weeks out, 277) and UWSA (0.5 weeks out, 800/265). Overall on the real deal I felt like I was missing more than I felt I was missing while taking Step 1, so I'm not sure how predictive my practice tests will be. I'll post again once I get scores.

I took the UWSA and got the same score. Overall, how did CK feel compared to UWSA?

Would you say more so than Step 1 & UW?

I would say the real deal had a healthy amount of questions (~5-10%) on topics that were not expressly covered by UWorld but for the most part could be figured out since CK is a lot more about management and what steps you would do next in diagnostics/treatment etc. Some of the management questions were tough, though.

I felt like step 1 had a similar amount of questions on topics not expressly covered by UWorld (~5-10%) but since it was basic science/fact-based knowledge, there were some questions that you either knew or you didn't and there was no way to figure it out.

Hey All,

I thought I'd share my scores to encourage others who, like me, may have struggled in the study period leading up to step 2 (and on shelf exams this year).

nbme 4 (4 weeks out): score 340 (~204 step 2 score)
nbme 6 (7 days out): score 430 (~223 step 2 score)
QBank % (first time): 68%
Actual Step 2CK: 242

I was totally stoked with the final score 🙂 Hope today brought happy news to everyone!

Hey All -- thought I'd give a little input on my studying and results of this exam.

I worked relatively hard throughout my 3rd year studying for shelf exams, scored mostly in the 80s/low 90s on those. Mostly used case files (easy to read while on rotations) and UWORLD. I also read most of MTB2 near the end of 3rd year (right before IM shelf).

I had ~ 3 weeks of dedicated study time right before my exam and usually studied 12 hrs per day. I did DIT and used Step Up to Step 2 (a lot of people don't really like this book, but I didn't have a problem with it).

I did not do any nbme's, but my UWORLD average (1 pass) was 73%.

Step 2 score: 254.

I feel extremely fortunate and very relieved. I felt pretty terrible walking out of the exam and could immediately count numerous questions that I got wrong.

I wish you all the best of luck, message me if you have any other questions. I'm sorry my post is so short, but my study plan was pretty minimal -- I like to stick to a few resources.

Congrats my friend! 👍

Congrats!

A 12 hour study day is pretty heavy. How did you break that up? Did you just set a goal of 3 blocks a day?

So just took the exam yesterday. Figured with all the help this board has given me, least I could do is give back.
First pass UWorld (including throughout the year while I was studying for shelves) = 64%.
Didn't do a full second pass, instead re-did the problem questions (ones I either missed or had marked b/c I wasn't 100% confident in my answer), ranging around 70-80% on most question sets.
When I was finishing my first pass of UWorld (probably aruond 500-700 IM questions) I did them on timed tutor with all subjects.
Second pass (for the review) was timed 44 question blocks with re-review at the end. I also took notes on any information within the question or the other answer choices that I thought I should know. Ended up being about 17-18 pages of typed one to two line notes.

Sources used:
UWorld (obviously)
MTB 2 (taking notes on anything I didn't already know, turned out to be about 25-30 pages of handwritten one to two liners)
MTB 3 NON-IM (every section besides IM, including derm, tox, etc. etc.; no notes taken here)
Top 200 Diagnostic Test Questions You Need to Know For Step 2 (Conrad Fischer Flashcards)

Step I - 224
School-sponsored mock Step 2 (4 blocks, without exact scoring, prior to dedicated 4 week studying period) - 220s
UWSA (3 weeks into studying, ~ 1 week before test): 245
Didn't take any NBMEs as I didn't want to be demoralized by a crappy score.

Test Day:
Usual waiting period, usual GED takers behind me clacking away on her keyboard like she was typing a book. Anyways, on to the actual test.
41-45 question blocks x 8.
Content wise I'm going to be a bit biased. Consider the fact there are 320+ questions, and that the ones I feel like there was more of was because they are not my strong points.
Things that were on it MORE than I expected:
Ophtho (where analyzing a fundoscopic image is key to diagnosis),
Pediatrics (both Neonate/Infantile AND middle-aged [10-15 w/o being solely GYN issues]),
OB/GYN,
Pulmonary,
Management/Pattern "Does this disease get cured completely or will it temporarily cure and then relapse?"

Things that were on it LESS than I expected:
Trauma (and Surgery),
Cardiovascular Dz,
Pure unadulterated Diagnosis (not "what is the next step in management", but "What is the most likely diagnosis")

Can't make a definitive comment about other ones.

Most frustrating portions of the test: I read the vignette and I know the diagnosis and the next step before I even read the answer choices. Get to the answer choices, and they have the 2nd through 5th step (and I don't remember exactly in what order those next 4 steps go in).
Also, standard things like you know the diagnosis, but they use some other term for it that you've never heard of before, so you have to use process of elimination on all the diagnoses you know to understand what it is (never knew what hematocolpos was until I took the exam and selected it as an answer choice).
Another thing - They had these ridiculous questions about how some nurse or physician makes some minor mistake (not procedural, but like failing to follow up on a lab) and the question asks what could be done in the future to make sure things don't happen again. Definitely thought there were 2 or 3 valid answers for each of those questions (only like 4-5 on the entire exam).

There were also times that you had an exceedingly clear clinical diagnosis, but they asked you what the next step in diagnosis would be. Sometimes they had the "no further diagnosis needed" option, but often times it was picking between one of the two things that would have anything to do with the original disease process at all.

A good amount of biostats, but as long as you know sensitivity/specificity/PPV/NPV and the definitions to all of those words, you'll do fine. Some of the "what's wrong with this study" stuff was a little tricky.
I had 2-3 drug adds (only 1 page each thankfully) and 2-3 abstracts with 2-3 questions per abstract. Not too bad. One of the drug adds dealt with an herbal supplement, which had it's own wack study conducted, and wasn't confirmed by the FDA. Not sure if I was just supposed to throw out the entire study when the patient asks if it is good for him.

Glad to be done and get on with my research year. Googled some of the questions I can remember that I wasn't sure on, and so far doing well in that category. The worst feeling in the world is when you're answering a 2-parter that has to be answered one step at a time, and you see you've missed the first part during the exam b/c the 2nd question went a different direction than what you were thinking.

Breaks - While studying I was routinely drinking/snacking on something, which is obviously super duper illegal during the actual test. I took a break after every single section for ~ 5 minutes, just to get a glass of water, some sips of coffee (I took 4 of those cappucino bottles you'd get from starbucks, and drank half of one after every section), a granola bar if I needed it. I ate a decent sized breakfast and didn't have an actual lunch (just sugary cappuccino and granola bars).

Glad to be done, waiting for my score now, and good luck to everyone.

PS - About 4-6 weeks for the score report to come back, right?

What do you guys think

4 weeks out- NBME 4: 580--> 253
2 weeks out- NBME 2: 510--> 240

Absolutely crushed about this- I started my rotations 2 weeks ago don't know if thats why my score dropped. Any how took today off to cool down, maybe some burnout

2 weeks left- I would be ecstatic with anything >245

I went through u world 2X
1st pass : 65%
2nd pass: 80%
now redoing wrong Q's

I did DIT 2 months ago, skimmed through quizzes and things I highlighted through the text again.

SO WHAT NOW ? WHAT SHOULD I DO THESE FINAL TWO WEEKS TO BOOST BY SCORE?

I have annotations from every uworld questions and high yield facts that collected along the way.

Should I go through U world again with my notes?
read through step up?

Thanks in advance!!!

My vote is burnout.

When people say "I got X% on my first pass of UWorld," do they mean this is the first time they ever went through the QBank, or do they mean they went through the QBank during rotations, but this is the first time they are going through the QBank as part of their dedicated Step II study time?

For me first pass was my first time through it, throughout third year rotations. Not sure if that's what everyone else means by it.
