Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

Got my score last Wednesday, hopefully this gives a little hope to average med students as well as those who thought the real deal went horrifically.

Step 1: 210 +/- 2

UWorld 1st pass (timed-tutor, most questions done while reviewing/soon after reviewing each topic): 73%ish (not positive but that sounds about right

My last rotation of 3rd year was Peds and then I did a short 2wk Psych rotation, and during those I finished off the OB-GYN, Peds, and Psych chapters of Step Up to Step 2 CK. I then took NBME 6 (newest extended version I believe) to see where my "baseline" prior to reviewing Medicine was and got a 221. I took July off to study, and took Step 2 on July 24th, giving me 3+ weeks to essentially cover Medicine

I was pretty concerned about Medicine because it was my 2nd rotation, and since I had so much time I used Step Up to Medicine (which I had never used during the rotation) instead of the corresponding chapters in Step Up to CK. All together I used UWorld, Step Up to Medicine, and Step Up to Step 2CK. I had Secrets but didn't get around to it. During July I spent on average 8hours/day studying.

Test Day: In short- it was a hot mess (as evidenced by the fact that I made a thread to ask how common it was to feel like you failed). I am a HEAVY marker (50% is not unusual for me), but I essentially just stopped marking bc I felt I wasn't positive on any questions. I finished every section with about a minute to spare, rushed through the drug ads, and could remember numerous gimme-questions I got wrong. I cried the entire way home, convinced that I failed. It was a terrible 3 week wait, and I was convinced if I did pass it wouldn't be by much.

Step 2 CK: 250 +/- 2

Bottom-line: if you think the test was a disaster, you are not alone, and just trust that if you studied your ass off it'll most likely play out in your favor!

damn that must have been a nice surprise last wednesday

HA! I'm getting pretty good at this prediction thing. See my original post in your "feel like you failed" thread you started...

Yeah, not downplaying your feelings but literally over and over I see people say pretty much the same thing in the Step 2 scores thread and then report a 250-260. Regularly. I agree with call me x... use your Uworld average and likely expect +/- 10 based off what score that should translate to.

Good job on the score! It just scares me even more though that I walked out thinking "that wasn't as bad as I expected"... usually means bad things. Hopefully I'll find out Wednesday :xf:

Kind of having a freakout here..decided to post in this thread since it seems to be the most active one about Step 2 CK in this forum!

I'm taking Step 2 in 2 weeks.

Uworld first pass during 3rd year - 69% (I kinda rushed through these, did most on tutor mode because I wanted to get to the explanations...).

I studied mostly using DIT and Step up to step 2 ck. DIT was such a waste of time, I didn't get anything out of the videos and I felt like they harped on too much unnecessary stuff and left out what was important. I'm annoyed bc I feel like I could have just spending more time on questions or something 🙁 And now I only have 2 weeks left to really learn the material.

Did the Uworld Self assessment today - 230. Please, please tell me that all hope is not lost. What do you guys recommend I do in the next 2 weeks? Do as much Uworld second pass as I can? Focus on NBMEs? For some reason I just feel a little more lost this time around :/

The best thing you can do is relax...you are 2 weeks out and sitting around 230. some people only study for 2 weeks max. if i were you i would do uworld all day every day and take notes on all the questions. then study my note document for the last 2-3 days before the exam. everyone is going to tell you different things, but thats what i'd do.

youre gonna be fine! you have already gone through uworld once and DIT, thus you have first pass covered a lot of the material.

Took the test 8/19.

As for background, I got a 260 on Step 1, which felt easier to study for: 8 weeks of memorize everything from First Aid and UWorld. Throughout 3 year, I got 3 honors and 3 A's. Mid-upper 90's on all shelfs except for Psychiatry (78th percentile).

I was initially planning to take Step 2 at the end of the three weeks between 3rd and fourth year, reviewing IM MTB2 and non-IM MTB3 and second run through with UWorld. However I received some advise that taking EM prior to Step 2 can be beneficial. I thought I was going to have more time over this rotation to also get some studying in (15 shifts over 30 days leaves plenty of time right? wrong.) So I ended up not getting any Step 2 studying done over those 4 weeks, but got plenty of EM in so I had no concerns on that part of Step 2. Was also thinking it would help me out on any trauma questions but all of my trauma questions were simple.

Anyways, first run through Uworld 78%, second run through 83% (widely fluctuant based on how tired/motivated I was, just trying to get through the questions). Got through MTB2 IM and the areas of MTB3 that I felt weaker in. Largely I read for review and tried to memorize things that were not familiar. I didn't focus on things that I felt good with or were covered by UWorld (e.g. MTB3 advised to get a urine cx for pediatric uti's to ensure resolution, where UWorld states they are not needed given adequate Abx coverage and symptomatic resolution).

I took the day before the test entirely off, figuring I will know the things I know, work through the things that I can work through, and thats the best I can do. I also stocked up on enough snacks/sandwiches/caffeinated and non-caffeinated beverages to get me through the day.

As for the test. Given my motto, I wasn't the least bit surprised to mark about 25% of each test block. Some stuff you just have to chuckle at how obscure or insignificant it is, make up something and move on. I also saw on the forums that the drug advertisement questions really disrupt the flow of the test, so I decided to skip each of those on my initial run through and save 5 minutes or so at the end to go through it. I can definitely see how they're disruptive because there isnt a lot of reasoning involved, more of a 'Where's Waldo' of small text across 2 pages.

However, this may have worked because I have no problem getting through sets quickly, all in all I had ~8-10 minutes to review things for each set. If I didn't get something right away I would spend about 30 more seconds looking over the question to see if I missed something, go with my best hunch and hope that a quick second look at the end would provide some more insight. But thats just test taking stuff.

At the end of the day I was just so excited to be done with Step 2 (and thus third year, finally) that I wasnt really worried about how I did on the test. We will find out come Sept 25th if I should have taken it more seriously or not.

This sounds like some good strategery, I'll have to keep it in mind, thanks.👍

SDN!! A bit excited at the moment. I woke up to find a letter saying a score report was available. I took CK on 7/31. Score was released today!!!!!! I was expecting to wait till sept 25th! Keep your eyes open!

I took the exam on 1st August. Looks like NBME decided to spare me the wait.

UWorld average: 78% (Timed, random)
UWSA ~2 weeks out: 800/265+
NBME 4 ~5 days out: 670/273

Exam was more or less like UWorld. Most stems 4-5 lines long. A few longer questions. Lots of preventive medicine like everyone has been saying, with vague choices. Drug ads and abstracts were easy. As mentioned previously, drug ad said something like "Drug is an NSAID" and then asked what type of drug was being spoken about.

Step 2: 264

Step 1: 259 (UWSA 800/265+ and 2 NBMEs 270+)

Foiled again. But I saw it coming this time around. At least I broke 260. I'm happy. Good luck to the rest of you.

OK seriously, WTF? I took the exam the 26th and haven't gotten an email, don't have a score posted. My permit link disappeared 2 weeks ago. Did you guys that have scores from after the supposed cut off (the people posting scores from the 31st and 1st) have emails this AM when you got up or did you just log on and find it? I'm seriously confused how people who took the test after me are getting their scores now... 😕

Does anyone know if the scores are all released at the same time or if they are released an bunches or sporadically throughout the day? I guess better way to ask... when you got your scores did anyone start seeing posts on here that "scores are released" or "just got the email" or something like that only to log on and find nothing but later in the same day you got the email/scores as well?

They dislike DOs more than they do IMGs. I got home from a jam session and saw the mail in my inbox. Was not expecting it at all. Hang in there.

Lol, quite possibly I guess. I just got the email so apparently there is different times these go out for different people. I'm pretty sure I'd have gone Stage 3 nuclear if everyone else after me got theirs and I had to wait for the 25th lol! Now to just wait til it actually appears on the website... uggh. The suspense is killing me!

Step 1: 250
Step 2: 245 - took on 7/30 - didn't even know scores were going to be released today

UWorld assessment was around 230s, NMBE was 226 although my shelves have been 70-80%. Kind of disappointed only because it's lower than step1 so I'm not sure how this will look when I apply. Going for EM so idk how big of a deal it is. Any ideas?

Well, scores are out and I guess I'm happy/sad. After seeing my score I feel I definitely must have given some points away somewhere because I walked out of the test feeling MUCH better than I did with Step 1 and much better than what most people say they feel after the test. I literally left Step 1 positive I flat out failed (a LOT of outside circumstances happened right before test day that said, logically, I should have delayed my test but I didn't) and was surprised to find out that I didn't fail... barely. This time, all was good with the world and I felt prepared and walked out feeling pretty good so not sure where the disconnect was but sure didn't improve as much as I wanted. My scores are by NO means the "SDN average", lol

Step 1- ~205
Step 2- ~230

A ~25 point increase over my Step 1 score feels good but still falling "below average" (posted as 237 and SD 21 for my test) definitely sucks. Not sure exactly what kind of increase constitutes a "significant increase" from your Step 1 score but when the passing grade for Step 2 is 15 pts higher than the passing grade from Step 1 I feel like that has to be accounted for which means I really only jumped by about 10 pts. Don't know if PDs will feel this way or if they will look at 25ish point increases as significant and be satisfied. I guess time will tell. Definitely disappointed but not destroyed...

BTW, not that I'd suggest using my stats as any measuring stick, but here's the jist as I remember it...
UWorld 1st pass (completed late 3rd yr randomly, not associated w/ what rotation I was on)- ~66%
UWorld 2nd pass (completed like 4-5 months AFTER 1st pass while dedicated study time)- ~72%
UWSA (2 wks before test)- 219

Whew. Now that I have regained my senses, let me give my small contribution of my advice/experience.

I am a Caribbean img. Scored a 211 on step 1 unfortunately. Studied first aid, step up to medicine, Kaplan videos, qbank throughout 3rd year.
Focused on ck solely for about 2 months, and had 3 weeks off completely at the end to dedicate to ck.
I read my first aid pretty well, and scrolled through mtbs2 as it is an easy read. I must say I did not devour any one single book for this exam. Uworld was my child.
Uworld 1st time pass of 73% and always made good notes and never ever neglected explanations, even when feeling too tired to wrap my mind around another topic.
Watched different Kaplan videos where i felt I was lacking in certain reas and to change up the study mode and avoid burnout. They were my main sources of study.

Came out of the exam feeling unsure. I knew 40-50% with high confidence, then 25-30% between 2choices, and the remaining 20~ % was pretty much guessing.

Real step 2 CKscore 256.
45 point jump from my poor step 1 showing. I am satisfied. Bless you all in your studies and hard work.

Seems like most people are staying at or going up from the Uworld practice test.

uworld first pass, randomly throughout 3rd year: 69%; second pass 81% on ~900 questions

I scored 5 points higher than uwsa

Uwsa 240ish
Step two 245ish

Step 1 230's

step 1 248
step 2 256

earlier post detailed my practice test scores.

happy as I made a ****load during the exam... ran out of time on sections etc

took exam 7/31 just got scores back!

I got a 245... happy with a 20 pt jump from step 1 but a little disappointed as last practice test (nbme 4) was a 260.

All you guys have ridiculously high scores congrats!

I took the exam on 1st August. Looks like NBME decided to spare me the wait.

Any other August test-takers get scores back? No e-mail for me. TIA

Took the exam 7/27 as well. I felt like I was on autopilot too phoenixmd-- don't want to jinx myself and say it was "easy" but I marked far fewer questions than I had on Uworld and just answered questions like a robot. They mostly didn't seem to be trying to trick you and tested a lot of bread and butter topics straight from Uworld. In general more NBME level questions though. Hoping I didn't get a super easy test that'll translate to a really rough curve...

Stats:
Step 1: 250
UW 77% on 2nd pass. I think around 70% for 1st pass (can't remember)
NBME 4: 242
Shelfs: 80s raw scores

Will update my score and what I used for the exam in however many weeks it'll take. Do we know when 7/27 score reports should come out?

Anyone else think the exam on 7/27 was pretty straightforward? Also, I got a lot of stress relief from this board so thank you to everyone who has posted.

Step 2: 263

Yay! Study method: I used Uworld throughout the year, and then reset and used UWorld for 3 weeks. Took off the first weekend but studied through the next two. Started doing 2 blocks a day at first, timed tutor, and then had to up to 3 blocks TIMED a day because I wasn't on schedule to finish. Timed was a better guide of how I was actually doing and kept me on task. Still had 200 questions left at the end, but it was enough.

As for books, looked at several and decided not to use anything until the last week when I started skimming through Step 2 Secrets. Great book, not very in depth but none of the step 2 books really are to me. Got about halfway through before the exam, but I LOVED the book.

I would say the best prep would be study hard for your shelf exams using Uworld, especially medicine. Then reset Uworld and go through all of it. If I had had time I would have loved to finish it and go through all my errors. As for a book, read Step 2 Secrets. It looks small, but I think the qbank is enough so Secrets was a nice break from questions.

Good luck everyone! I am so happy and hope my advice helps someone out there. :xf:

Congrats to everyone who got their scores back today!!! Looks like everyone did great!! 👍 Would you guys mind to please post your UWorld percentages as well? Thanks!!! 😀

Step 1: 240

I used DIT with SU2S2, UWorld, and USMLE Secrets. Dedicated study time was about 4 weeks.

UWorld 1st pass was ~68%, 2nd pass ~74%

Practice test scores:
NBME 2 (took as a baseline 4 weeks out): 233
UWSA (3 weeks out...realized later I probably should have taken it closer to the test date based on what's been said about it on these boards): 236
NBME 4 (2 weeks out): 246
NBME 6 (1 week out): 252
Actual: 251

Practice tests were pretty spot on! Good luck guys! Study hard and don't get discouraged!

Hey guys. I know it's my first post. I'm a long time lurker here, but finally decided to post so that you all can join me in patting myself on the back. Just got my score. I'm so proud.

UWorld first pass: 99% (still pissed about the question I missed)
UWorld second pass: 100% (told them the answer they wanted on that one question, but I still say I was right the first time)
NBME 2 (took this at the start of 1st year, just cuz): 220
NBME 4 (waited til second year for this one): 240
UWSA (buddy said I should wait until 3rd year for this): 280

Real deal: 305

Mini-wave in celebration of me!

I know the national average is 235ish, but we SDN folks are just that far ahead of the curve! As if anyone here would ever get below a 240. HA! Everyone else in the country must be getting in the low 200s to bring down the average we all worked so hard to bring up!

What did I do for my score? Aside from inherent brilliance, I studied Kaplan, DIT, SUS2, MTB 2/3, Secrets, and I got board specialty review books for Internal Med, Surgery, Psych, Neurology, and OB/GYN. It took me one week to get through all the material. On test day, I felt horrible. I know you all say your exams were hard, but let me tell you. Mine was so hard that two of my classmates walked out mid-exam and dropped out of med school! I mean right there in the testing center. I overheard them calling the dean in tears and saying they just couldn't do it anymore. THAT'S how hard my exam was.

Now a round of applause for everyone for slaying the beast and rushing to a board we've never posted on before to let everyone else know how awesome we are! GO US (and especially me)!!!!

See you on Step 3 score-release day!

👍 Lol... awesome. I love the bit about everyone else bringing the SDN average down since nobody ever scores below 240 (wondered that myself). Congrats on your parody... uh, I mean score, lol 😉

I believed you until the UWSA score. Don't pat yourself on the back, you might break your spine.

Well it's official... I must be the biggest f***ing idiot on the forums....

Dicked around for step 1 and got 230.

Busted my ass for step 2 all through rotations, every mother effing day for the past year... literally....

NBME 6 1 month ago - 225

NBME 4 2 weeks ago - 231

UWSA tonight - 230

Test is in 4 days.

Who in the world studies for a month straight 12 hours a day and can't raise their scores? Well... that would be me!

... I don't know what to do.... I guess I'll go get my garbage score on step 2... It's not often I see people who score 230 on UWSA actually go up much so I'll probably score somewhere between 190-230. I'm just about as down on my career choice as I could possibly be right now. I could have been enjoying my life, but instead I've been torturing my self... for some craptastic sub-mediocre results! That's comedy right there.

Almost all the posters on this page, except me (and maybe one other) have done better than their predictions. Some by ~10 points, some by more. Deconstruct your mistakes, get your butt in gear for test day and give it all you've got.

For another n=1, my UWSA was 231... Real deal 5 days later was 250. It's very possible to go up from practice tests.

Thanks for advice.

I guess it is just disheartening not moving up from my previous two scores... What's worse is I missed so many things that I know I would have got right with out even thinking twice on step 1... HSV-6 as an example....

I guess I'll just have to break my missed questions down and try to find what my weakest subjects are.

Took CK yesterday. Putting my thoughts here so I don't forget, and then I'll update when I get my score back. I'm not your typical SDNer, but I've benefited from this thread so want to give back.

DO student
220 +/- 5 on Step 1, 588 on COMLEX 1 (for MD's: avg on comlex is 500, SD is 81)
Shelf exams (these are NBOME shelf exams, which are ridiculously random, so for MD's not sure how helpful this is): range from 86% on FM to 98% on psych, usually around 90-91. I used very few resources other than QB's, mainly because I learn more from doing questions than from reading review books.

I did my first pass of UW during the year while preparing for shelf exams. Although I'm not going for a very competitive specialty, my goal for third year was to prepare to redeem my step 1 score, with which I was very disappointed. I forgot to record my average before re-setting it, but I'm not sure how helpful it would be anyway (there were plenty of nights where I was doing it while really tired, or not timed because I was doing it on breaks at the hospital, etc.). I also did Kaplan qbank throughout third year as shelf prep (which I wouldn't recommend but my school paid for a subscription), as well as Combank (a COMLEX-style qb). Also read all of MTB 2 and 3, which I started doing in February, first pass through before I started intensive study.

Dedicated study time: ~4.5 wks
My study plan was to get through UW in less than 3 weeks, read MTB 2/3 again in 5-6 days while doing missed/marked UW questions, and then get through Secrets in 3 days while finishing missed/marked questions. This was a successful strategy for me (at least, I think so!) Also took 3 assessments to help gauge my progress and focus my study.
I took notes on each UW question (in the actual software program itself) and then reviewed these while going through my second pass of MTB in week 4; this for me was faster than flipping through MTB to annotate. You can organize it by sub-section, and review it as you're going through chapters in a review book if you want. I would've liked to be annotating in MTB as I went, but I felt like I wanted to move through it more quickly.

I was able to complete all of my study objectives: got through UW another 1.5 times, re-doing all missed/marked questions until I had gotten all of them correct and felt I understood the explanations well. Also got through a second pass of MTB 2/3 (for IM mainly just MTB 2), as well as the little Secrets book. Rating these resources below:

UW: solid gold as everyone has said. The only truly necessary resource for Step 2.
MTB 2/3: liked this better than FA or SUS2, but really what matters most is how you use the resources, not which ones you use. I recommend going to B&N, flipping through different books to see what you like, then order on Amazon.
Secrets: this was an easy way to quickly review high-yield info at the end, but I don't feel that it was extremely helpful/a "must-read." By the time I read it I understood everything really well but it was nice reassurance to knew I had everything down. Much of it isn't as detailed as UW so I was skeptical, but after taking the exam most of it goes about as in-depth as you need.
Kaplan QB: don't recommend; some questions are out-of-date, and often details are too obscure to be very high-yield. Not a great use of time, although I liked it for shelf study.
Combank (for the DO students): I liked this a lot, thought it was great for shelf study. I prefer it to Comquest, which I did sporadically over the last few weeks and I'll be using in the next 3 days before I take COMLEX.
Medical Education Online videos: I watched these prn during my workouts, which I continued to do daily (more of a sanity saver than anything else), I actually really liked these. They're pretty up-to-date as well. You can't beat free. It looks to be a resident (maybe now an attending) who just lectures using a white board - it's simple, he's knowledgeable, and it was a lot better than DIT I thought (I'm not sure why they just have the person speaking from a podium instead of something more interesting a la pathoma or the meded online videos; maybe they've improved it this year?) I used DIT for step 1 and feel like it was a waste, mainly because it took time away from doing UW questions. I think it depends most on your study style; I know some people who love DIT and some who don't find it helpful. You just have to use what works for you. As mentioned, I did not watch videos at all during dedicated study time, just while working out to re-visit concepts I was not scoring as well on.

NBME 6, before dedicated study time: 223
Second pass of UW, during dedicated study time (combo timed/timed tutur; timed is better but takes a bit longer), avg 78% (my actual first pass was during third year, as mentioned above)
NBME 4, before starting second full read of MTB: 260
UWSA, 5 days out: 252

Test day: I felt better walking out of this one than after step 1 - although I felt ok after step 1, and so I don't trust that how I feel is a great indicator of how I'll do! I had plenty of time to spare at the end of each block, questions ranged from 40 (block 8) to 46 in a couple, never felt like I was running out of time although I did pace myself and had trained that way. Felt like I was just doing UW blocks, felt comfortable. I had time to re-visit all marked questions before time ran out. So I think that if you prepare well and pace yourself you shouldn't struggle too much with time. All in all easier than Step 1, I had anywhere from 3-8 marked questions per section, usually about 5. Definitely it's an endurance game. Take a moment between each section (you get like 30 sec before you have to commit to taking a break or moving on, I used this time to breathe and stretch). I used about 30 min of my break time; took a break every 2 sections to drink some water, pee, and have a quick snack.

As far as content on CK: there were maybe only 2 questions that I was like, wtf? But then figured out at least what they were getting at. If I didn't know the answer 100%, I could narrow it down to 2. I think that UW was excellent, excellent prep, and more difficult than the real deal. 2 heart sound questions, 2 EKG's, but you could pretty much answer the question from the vignette anyway. A good mix, but lots of ob/gyn and peds. Biostats and drug ad questions were straightforward, easier than UW - esp the drug ad, I caught myself spending more time than I needed to because I thought there was some kind of trick, they were so straightforward.

My two cents: trust in your prep and don't let your nerves get the better of you on test day. Do self-assessments, pay for the full analysis and use it to strengthen your weak areas. UW, UW, UW is better than anything else; if you find yourself pressed for time towards the end of your study, stick with practice questions as opposed to trying to do more reading. Don't second-guess yourself on test day; if you know the answer, answer it and move on. Step 2 isn't as big of a deal as step 1; use this to help keep yourself calm on the real deal, but don't let it keep you from working hard during the time you've dedicated to preparation.

Sorry, that was insanely long! I'll update with my score when I get it back. I'll be happy with anything 240+, although given my poor step 1 performance I should probably be hoping for 230+ 🙄

Good luck to everyone who's still waiting to take it! Not sure how many of you are out there, but maybe this will help next year's bunch.

Score update - took it 7/26, got score back yesterday

Step 2 CK: 254 🙂

I feel like 2 things contributed to my ability to improve significantly over my Step 1 score:
1. Didn't do DIT for CK - UW was my focus. While I used MTB for some structured reading/review, UW was really my foundation and I did the qbank 2 times through completely, then did all missed/marked questions until I was finished with those as described above. I believe doing DIT takes away valuable time from the most important resource, which is UW.
2. Felt much less nervous walking into Step 2 CK (this is probably directly linked to #1).

As others have mentioned, for me UWSA (slight under-prediction) and NBME 4 (over-prediction) were the best predictors of my actual score.

Good luck to everyone!

I don't post much on SDN but have been following for a little while. But this is easily one of my favorite post's i have seen in a long while.

YEAHHH OT!

is there a correlation thread anywhere on sdn with uworld % and the actual score?

I'll throw my score out there to help those who want to know where they stand before the test. Took the CK the last week of July.

Step 1: 250s

Used Uworld, Secrets, and Step Up to Medicine for CK prep. I only did Uworld in prep for the CK, not throughout my M3 year. I completed all the questions and ended up having an average around 67-69%.

NBME #4, 2 weeks out: 254
Uworld practice test, 1 week out: 256

Step 2 CK: 261

Just from the few posts I've read, it appears a lot of people end up scoring within about 5 points or so of their Uworld practice test.

Good luck to everyone. And yes, I felt horrible after I finished the test. I felt the same way after Step 1. I'm starting to realize maybe it's a good thing to feel like you just got crushed after these tests.

I saw a guy on another forum who was all cocky coming out of the test... he ended up w/ 220 (which I'm not saying is horrible, that is all relative) but he was talking like it was the easiest test he ever took... he had 240s on all his practice tests.

I would assume if you thought it was so super easy, you didn't look into the questions enough and were just satisfied with your first instinct, which will often be wrong on these kind of tests.
