Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

I saw someone posted somewhere on one of these threads that if you take Step 2 between August 12th and "mid-september" that your score will be released on October 6th (so potentially a delay for many of those people). Assuming many people apply for residency right on September 1st, when do most programs start inviting for interviews? I'm scheduled to take Step 2 on September 15th and I'd like my score to be available for when interview decisions are made.

I took Step 2 CK in late June. Does anyone know what time of day and which day of the week that the scores have been posted to the website this spring? Is it on the morning of a Wednesday?

So... someone told me that scores came on the THIRD Wednesday... that was last week. I was misinformed. So then I suffered through another week. Three weeks... EVERYONE I spoke got it in three weeks. I have been told by everyone that they had their score at 11. It is now 12:04.... nothing.

I have average grades first and second year grades and an average step 1 score. However, I am well above the average in clerkships. So, this grade has a lot of weight for me since I would like to be in a competitive residency. I don't want to wait another week!

Sorry, I was in the OR for the last few hours and haven't been able to vent my frustration. I was hoping this would help.... not yet.

I feel for you! The waiting is definately the hardest part of all of medical school. It's like they do it on purpose...here start a new class, a new clerkship, etc before we tell you if you passed that last class/clerkship or not. Why wouldn't Step II scores take forever too?
If you are out of the hospital and not taking home call...have a few cold ones and be thankful that at least you are almost done with this whole f-upped process that is medical school.

Thanks Rach... was planning on having a few if the score was good OR bad. Hadn't planned for this contingency, but I will stick with the game plan. I have tomorrow off to drive to CS. I mean people say it is no big deal, but it means something to me. Oh well. I guess I get a week more of poor sleep.

I heard through a friend who heard from someone who called NBME (so take that for what it is worth) that scores weren't going to be release this week because of the holiday. I think that is a load of crap considering the Fourth was DAYS ago. Whatever the reason is... it sucks.

I feel your pain, my score was supposed to come out today. I spent all day at the hospital refreshing my droid. Hopefully tomorrow. god, i don't want to wait another week.

I took it in late june too.. .. Sorry for being dense about this - i'm sure i just missed it along the way, and it's been a while since step 1 - are scores posted to a website? and if so which website? Thanks.

step1 - 247/99

nbme3 - 209 (lol what:laugh: )
just finished world last week - 71% overall; tutor mode unused
uworld self assessment last night - 259

have 3 weeks left until test day and signed up for a month of kaplan to BS around with. will do nbme4 a week or so before the test.

books i've read during 3rd/4th year:

step up to IM
first aid CS
ekg in emergency diagnosis
some pocket echocardiogram book
gross anatomy text
surgical recall
washington manual of surgery
mass gen pocket medicine ($$ for downtime on the wards)
misc surgical pathology textbooks from before 1950
HY Obgyn (140 pages everyone should skim through it)

I took it. Plenty of questions ARE longer than uworld. People are not exaggerating about that, but you will have like 25% of questions that are 4-5 lines. Difficulty is harder than nbme 2 overall. Higher ratio of questions that were easier than world, but a fair amount that are on par with world or harder AND longer (or harder BECAUSE they're longer and you have to sift through more distractors and crap, all the while making sure not to miss the one word that will completely change the answer). I still skimmed most of the questions, but every now and then when I'd read a question in detail, I'd realize one word could change the answer.

This test will drive you crazy if you are a slow reader or have the need to read, even skim, the question multiple times. I only had time to go back and read my marked questions on one block. I'd say maybe don't even bother marking unless you're really efficient. Step 2 relies more on your test taking skills than step 1. Train yourself to read fast once and absorb. I'd say like two blocks were fair, 2-3 were meh mixed with some fair, and 2 were kinda rough with some fair. They're definitely going for the bell curve design.

I think so. It says so on the website, but I don't know if mine is being released with them or not. I hope it is though. 🙂

Are we supposed to get a new round of scores released tomorrow?

I'm curious about this too. I took mine on June 25 and was wondering if my score would be released next week instead of this week, because of the 4th of July holiday. I'm just getting really tired of waiting.

I am a long time follower of this forum, but this is the first time to post in here as I am really in need for an advice.

Probably you heard this question before, but I just need a simple answer.

Currently I am preparing for ck exam. To be honest, I don't like to study forever for this exam, nor to cram it. I just don't feel like studying more than 4 weeks-3 months in worst case scenario. So what I am looking for is a comprehensive, detailed book that include all subjects, and almost all topics. To which I will be adding notes from UW.

I know that there is no single book is perfect, but who passed this exam with a solid score, do you think what I am proposing here is a bad plan to study for ck?

Then, could you let me know please what book has the above mentioned criteria? Please I am confused!!

I took mine June 25th and was hoping it'd be back today (the 3 week) mark, but knew that 4 weeks was more likely. :xf: for another week...hopefully no longer than that!

congrats sparky on the 99! (presuming since you posting in the 99 thread).

But since everyone is backed up from the stupid holiday, I won't hold my breath for scores next week (exam date 7/2) Poopie :annoyed:

Yep. I was the 25th too and no amount of refreshing that site is turning up my score...Sigh. Next week it is.

Can you wear a watch for Step 2 CK?

And what about sweatshirt, will they let you take it off during exam if you get hot?

Judging from this: http://www.usmle.org/general_information/bulletin/2010/testing.html

No watches of any type
Not sure about the sweatshirt, it just says no outerwear or jackets. At my testing center everyone either had on tshirts or long sleeved light shirts.

no you can't get hot and take your sweater off or have anything hanging from your chair etc...if you wear a jacket or sweater, it has to remain on your body, from what i was told. don't worry when you read those vague long vignettes in some blocks you'll feel hot and pound your fist on the table as a result (j/k, sort of).

when everyone is posting their UW %, it is the overall correct number right - not the percentile?

i've done about 24% of the qbank with 59% overall correct, 46th percentile. i'm about two weeks away and am fully planning on finishing it - i at least want to beat the average, any tips on how to do this?

Whats the consensus on the best assessments to use? I'm going to start doing UWorld in a little over a week and I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy the Qbank with self-assessment exams or to just buy NBME's. I know for Step 1 it seemed like everyone thought the NBMEs were more representative in terms of content and score prediction... is it the same for Step 2? If the cost was not a factor (UW practice tests are cheaper than NBME), what would you all choose?

Thanks Rach! I was very happy. Big sigh in my planning for next year. GOOD LUCK! I am sure you did well.

UWorld puts an asterisk at the end of explanations to some topics they consider to be 'extremely high yield question for the USMLE' - topics such as CF, SE of olanazapine, etc. For you guys who took the exam, how accurate do you think they were? Did you find a good bit of lyme disease/cf stuff on there?

hey kids, just a shout out to all of my SDN friends who are also taking CK this month....

I took CS today and am on the 31st for CK...

I'm using UWorld and Secrets. Someone said "keep plucking the chicken" and boy oh boy some days I really feel like that's what doing those questions feels like....

USMLE Assessment is good only for doing new questions, NOT for assessing your ability for Step 2, I took it today and did 12 points WORSE than NBME 4 I took at the beginning of July. There are other posts not in this thread that address the concern more completely.

What's with the trend this year, everybody taking CK so early?

From what I keep hearing programs are starting to put more weight on CK than previously. I keep hearing that there is growing belief that performance on CK is more indicitive than performance on step I. Additionally it is a good way to show a different side to programs if your performance on step I was average.

1-the graph with the 100 points seems a little optimistic---I mean, you can be getting 60% right on UWorld and that's correlated with a 235?
I sort of feel like SDN is telling me that there IS a Santa Claus!

2-I'm taking it early because I wanted to get it over with! And right after third year clerkships when I hopefully am still retaining a lot of random facts.😎

Hey guys I took the ck on July 2. Do you think scores will be in by tomorrow? The wait is killing me.:scared:

Probably won't be in til next week. 🙁 I say that because I took it the Friday before you and am still waiting. But, maybe you'll get lucky. :xf: The waiting sucks.

7/2 here too...as to my crystal ball prediction of scores tomorrow or not...

Logic:
Logic says that scores have been out 3 weeks after the week you took the exam on a Wenesday. The scores have been delayed for the past few weeks because of the July 4th holiday. However, if scores continued to just be pushed to the 4 week mark, they'd be continually backed up every holiday. So hopefully this means people who tested both the weeks of 6/21 and 6/28 will have scores released tomorrow.

Murphy:
You want it tomorrow, therefore it won't be released until at least next week. Q.E.D.

But here's my question...what exactly are they doing today anyway? They've run all their little statistical tests by now...is it just data entry? It's more annoying when you think about it and realize someone, somewhere knows your score already...the difference is they just don't care and you do.

I am sorry you have been waiting for a longer time. I won't forget you in my prayer. Relaxe and take deep breath. Go outside to get some fresh air.

Taking step 2 tomorrow. took comlex II on the 17th of july.

UWorld 70.6% correct, all blocks unused, timed mode. 60% complete.
UWSA 76% correct 8 days before exam - 248 predicted
NBME self assesment #4 1 day before exam - 256 predicted (700)

I used DIT, Step up to step 2, and the new step 2 secrets third edition.
Usmle Step 1 - 231
Comlex 1 - 552

Ill edit this post when i get my scores back in about 4 weeks.

Hope your theory is right. I took mine 6/28 and am hoping that 3 weeks and 2 days is the ticket instead of 4 weeks and 2 days. I don't understand why it takes so long - the GRE for instance calculates your score immediately and you get it right after submitting your last answer - before leaving the testing center. Plus, the NBME can give you a predicted score right after taking the practice forms, so why can't they do something similar with the actual exam? Oh well - I guess it's better than the 6 week MCAT wait or whatever it was back when it was still on paper.

Could you tell me please, or any one out there if step up to step 2 contains chapters that are missed in step up to medicine, i.e.: surgery, pediatrics, obgyn,.....?

Thanks and wish you luck
