USN class of 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks! Hey Sugadarlin, I think we go to the same school right now. CSUSB right?

I was only there taking pre-reqs for LLU and Western but USN was always my first choice due to my age (I'm 31) and family situation (married with a toddler). I got rejected from USN last year. But 2nd time was a charm

You going to be graduating from CSUSB or are you Post Bac? I got my BA from there years ago.

Yea I'm a Post Bac as well. I got my BS in Marketing (I like to think of it as a BS in BSing) at Cal Poly Pomona back in 07. Nice to see a fellow business major also pursuing a career change. USN was my first and only choice this year. I didn't apply to any other schools. I'm 29 pushing 30 this year so the 3 year program was very appealing. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone this August. 🙂

Circle Slash, CONGRATULATIONS!!! 👍

Who was everyone's interviewer? 😕

I had Dr. Hanson. 🙂

Can someone tell me what happens in the interview room after the student leaves? Do both students go over their marks with the professor? Do they vote and submit one score to the adcom or do all 3 send scores together and it gets tallied up??😕

I heard they add the 3 scores up, which would make sense to me, but I don't know either.

Hello everyone, I've interviewed on Feb 2nd and i haven't received any call yet from Dr. Deyoung...I'm so scared 🙁

Hello everyone, I've interviewed on Feb 2nd and i haven't received any call yet from Dr. Deyoung...I'm so scared 🙁

I had an interview on Feb 2nd in Utah Campus.
I got the call to day ! i'm so excited. Dr. Deyoung ask me which campus i would choose; I love USN,so both is OK but Handerson is still preferred cuz i live in CA. He 's so nice and professional.
BTW, anybody would like to share any experience on Immunizations Requirement ( optimal healcare providers, cost...). You know i'm in college right now, have a kid too...many things..i want to know about that.

Hope to see folk already got accepted in class 2013
and good luck for who s still waiting for interview or thr result.

Best😍

Congrats on your acceptance!

I'm looking into some options for my immunizations now as I do not have proof of them anymore. I am going to contact the Health Center at my school and see if they would be able to do the blood draws to do the tithers and if they administer any of the immunizations. I do have insurance but I figured since the Health Center is part of my tuition I would check with them first.

I looked up the prices at the CVS Minute Clinic to give you some idea what things cost. Some of the vaccinations require two or three doses and I think the price is for each shot.

Oh great Diastole...
Thanks a lot for your help....so kind of you
Have a good nite there=)

Hey diastole this question is for you since you are a current pharm student at USN. I'm attending University of MD Eastern Shore in the fall, & alot of you may not realize it but we are modeling alot of our program from your pharmacy school. Our curriculum & modular system is almost identical! Anyway just wanted to know how your grading system of pass or fail equates to GPA's? Since you all learn in blocks, do you have to get books for each block lesson? Do you have classes tuesdays-fridays, or is your exam every other friday with with no classes and if you pass you don't have to retake on monday. We will have a very similar structure come fall with rotations every other tuesday, exams every other friday, with a chance to retake on monday if we don't get a passing percentage score. Just thought I get some insight from you, thanks. 🙂

Got my Enrollment Agreement Packet via email this morning! Never have I been so excited to write a check before. I will be dashing to the post office today to make sure I get my ducks in a row as soon as possible!

I interviewed 3/16 with no call yet 🙁
I have an interview in Colorado 4/8. I prefer USN. If i don't get a response before then, is it okay to call Dr. Deyoung and ask for my status? If I get accepted then I will skip the interview at Colorado.

You mentioned you have an interview in Colorado on 4/8. Is that for Regis University or UC Denver? I have an interview at UC Denver on 3/29, and they said that was the last interview date...😕

BTW I had an interview at USN on 1/19 and haven't heard anything...I have been accepted to Loma Linda, though

We have no GPA. Our transcripts will have a bunch of Ps on it. The profs make powerpoint handouts and we get $200 on an account to make printouts. We have access to online texts if we want to read up but otherwise everything we need is either in the powerpoint or said in lecture. We have exams every other Friday and get the Monday off if we pass. The other Monday is for our ongoing blocks like Communications or Calculations. We also have IPPE in the pharmacy every other Friday so we are in our main blocks from Tues to Thursday each week. We typically have six lectures per exam.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated, I believe UMES is gonna follow around the same guidelines as USN 👍

Hi, Congraaats! that was my question as well! 😀 Also on the interview day do you require a lot of walking? I have high heel shoes and it is hard to walk around. I am thinking of buying a shorter hill shoes maybe!! Also does anyone know if I wear a blue shirt with no colar is that ok or is it unprofessional? Thanks!

There is not a ton of walking on interview day. They give you a short tour of the building, but the building is not very big.

Hey I have a question. I applied to Butler and Midwestern (in Illinois) and I have gotten no response from them yet. No denial, or interview, or acceptance or anything. Its late shouldn't I have gotten some kind of response?

Very little walking. About 20 min. worth at most. Don't know about the women, but the men almost all had suits.

I did fine with the walking my heels were not very high but they were tight as he!! Also regarding the shirt, the color is not an issue but I personally would wear a shirt with a collar unless I was wearing a blazer jacket or cardigan sweater over it. Also the fabric makes a difference, I mean if it's just plain soft cotton I think that's a little under dressed. However the MIGHT not really pay that much attention I am just tend to be more on the cautious side.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I have a suite, definitly.. I wthink collar is more professional, too.

I had applied to only the Utah Campus. I believe there are still seats available at both.

I am not sure about Midwestern, but I applied to Butler and I had an interview last Saturday. I am not sure if they have other interview dates but they told us that we would know if we are accepted or not within 3 weeks, which makes me think that they may have another interview date. I guess you'll just have to wait it out. You should know within the next 2-3 weeks.

I didn't even get an interview or denial. I emailed them and they gave me a generic email stating that they are looking at all applications....its almost April come on!

Question for current students:

I know that we must purchase the required laptop, however, are we allowed to bring any laptop to class? Im thinking that Ill just sell the laptop that Im required to buy and use another.

Also if you are a fellow Canuck who is attending USN or has previously attended USN, can you please Private Message me. I could really use some tips on how to transition to Nevada.
Thanks kindly.

I'm not a student at USN (YET!) but they load a bunch of programs that you need onto the laptop so you will need it.

I've seen some people bring other laptops to class. Also you don't really need to bring a laptop to class regardless. I rarely bring my laptop to class and if I do, I find myself engaging in non-school activities. Occasionally, we have team assignments which require them but when you have seven people in a team, at least one or two will have their laptops.

I use my laptop for email, downloading the powerpoints, accessing the Internet, typing the occasional paper, or making the occasional powerpoint presentation, brochure, or poster. So far there hasn't been anything I couldn't do with the computers I already owned prior to buying this laptop.

this is more for diastole and other current usn students:

so the email we were sent mentions that orientation is aug 25th, does that mean that white coat ceremony is before? also what areas are safe/affordable to live in henderson? (definately trying hard not have roommates while in pharmacy school!)

I am thinking of attending the Utah campus instead.
Henderson seems nice, but I am from the East coast and I am not sure if I can handle the desert heat during summer…

For those of you currently attending the Utah campus, what areas are descent to live near South Jordan? Are there any apartment complexes you can recommend? Any input will be appreciated.😉

I've lived on the east coast all my life, I'm going to Henderson. Don't be afraid of the sun, vampire!

If anyone is looking for (quiet) roommates, LMK!!

Male, Late 20s, quiet, respectful, clean, pet-friendly, looking to move in around mid - late July, max of 500/month. Might have friends from out of state over once in a while (weekends, holidays, etc.), but like you, most of the time I will probably be in hermit mode, studying.

I don't care who I live(guy/girl/gay/straight) with as long as you don't steal or touch my stuff/food and are equally quiet & respectful as me. Willing to split a 3-4-5 bdrm house, or just a 2 bdrm apt.

I believe that our White Coat ceremony was on a Friday after a couple of days of orientation.

I'm not much help on the apartment question. The places near the school seem reasonably safe enough. I hardly did any apartment hunting at all. I wanted to get my daughter in a certain school so I looked at one whole apartment building before I picked it and moved in.

Hi all,

I have been lurking around this thread for awhile. Congrats to those who got accepted. I just can't wait to see you all in the white coat ceremony  . For those who are waiting for the call from Dr. DeYoung, there's still hope, don't give up your hope 👍 , good luck to you all :xf: .

Regarding the apartment, since I am the local guy, I see that there are many nice apartments nearby the Henderson campus on Green Valley Pkwy, Mountain Vista, Valle Verde and Sunset Rd which are all in a safe and nice area. Feel free to ask if you have question about the area, I will be happy to answer.

BTW, I have a house (built 2008, furnished, Internet and cable TV ready) with 4 bedrooms, 2 and ½ baths, 2200 sq.ft. in a gated community in Henderson (close to Wal-Mart at Sunset Station), only 5-10 minutes away from the campus. Only myself live in the house. I am looking for two roommates who would like to share this newly built house in a nice, quiet neighborhood with me. There are 2 rooms available. Any USN students who are interested feel free to PM me. I am a 34 years old male, nationality Vietnamese, nice and friendly. Thanks.
