I am unsure of the price at this time, but it is included inside/with the first year’s tuition. This is the only laptop that can be used and supported on campus; our policy is strict on this.

Hehe, that's funny. University of Maryland uses the exact same laptop (processor speed and RAM size differs, but generally the same)

gvsk,

where did you get that info?

I talked to the USN Registrar's office about 10 days ago and they said that the laptop price had been finalized at $1124. Is that below retail value for this laptop...did they get us a bulk-price deal? Is this a good laptop we are getting?

Later all. USN P1 Orientation/Classes starts in under a month-Yippe!

I am also USN P1 student for class of 2010!!
Just so you are aware, the pictured laptop does not quite match the specifications listed, they are close.... but it is nice to know the actual specifications of the unit.
Also, the cost of the Laptop ($1124) is in addition to the p1 tuition. Bring on those student loans!
Thanks for the update!

almost the same as our laptop.

the price is i guess 200$ lesser that the one one can get it at dell.com or something.. its not the best laptop there.. its better features include good battery life, spill proof design etc...

its kinda heavy.. check cnet for the reviews. i conacted the usnhelpdesk and not the registrar so they didnt know the price.. 1124 is a good deal for it given that we get extended warranty. any way usualy laptops dont last 3 yrs atleast with the way i handle them.
I hope the on board graphic card can handle my gaming needs

Yet another reason I'm not even going to apply there. Sorry, but coming from an IT background, this is just sheer laziness and ineptitude on their IT staff's part. A lot of schools require laptops, but they simply provide a min spec, thus allowing me to chose something far, far better than that one. Its not bad for the price, but I'd rather spend a little bit extra and get a lot more laptop.

i jiust went to the dell website and customized the exact specifications,, it comes to 1414$ So it saves us 300 odd $. but u can get a way better computer than this for 1100$. i would prefer somethign on the lines of a Lenovo thinkopad or a sony waio. and i dont see this dell laptop lasting 3 yrs( not the way i handle them)

Latitudes are pretty solidly built. Dell's Small Business division is a lot different than their consumer arm (non-outsourced support). I have an old Latitude that is pushing 6 years, and still running.
You probably won't be gaming on that Intel integrated... (good thing in disguise for the easily distracted)

Dell apparently has a big contract going with Pharm schools. Might waver with the death of the Axim however.

You guys are so lucky.... Howard is charging $2500😱 to our student account for a laptop. And I was told we are the first class to be charged that much. Well they will be given out during orientation and I am just waiting to see what will hug $2500. I've heard rumors that they will be the toshiba tablet pcs......either way $2500 is still f***king too much. But hey what can I say....at least I got in...🙂
