Hi People,

Does anyone know if the United States Public Health Service accepts D.O. students into their COSTEP programs? If so, is it at the same level of funding as allopathic students? Thanks.

Everything that MD gets a DO gets. I'd be surprised if I was wrong on that, but someone will correct me if I can.

All military medical professionals scholarships are open to both MD and DO alike. They also have special programs for DDS/DMD's and DPM's. It has been said that DO's are over represented in th military. This seriously wouldn't surprise me considering the large amount of DO schools have and outrageous price tag. But don't sign up for these scholarships unless you truly want to be in the military, don't do it for financial reasons you will be disappointed if you do. Go over to the military medicine forums. There is a huge library worth of info there.

They sure DO.

I thought about doing this during the summers after first year myself. I don't think they pay med school expenses though, just a o-1 salary. I could be wrong on that though.

They pay full tuition, books, fees plus a stipend/salary around 1500 or 1600 dollars.

I know the NHSC does that, and the Military does it(1900 stipend), but the COSTEP through USPHS is something different isn't it? I could be wrong.

I know with the COSTEP program it's like an ROTC, in which you are not required to repay any time after graduation. With NHSC and the Military you have to give back the same time in years that they have supported your education(or your residency, whichever is greatest).
