What is the officer training like before USUHS? I had one guy refer to it as death by powerpoint. How much do we have to run? Whats a normal day like? How long is the training? I am going to go army or navy. Thanks in advance.

Real men go USAF. 😱 Bet you didnt' expect that.

And now for something completely different...

Check out the stickied thread that discusses this.

When you find stuff out, feel free to let me know lol What made you decide on the USUHS route vs the HPSP route? I'm a current PCOM DO first-year and I just decided to do the three-year HPSP. Guess I'll be stuck with my initial 60k of debt... oh well.

I read through the sticky thread and it didnt really talk about the army in specifics. If anyone can say exactly what is expected of them with respect to studying, physical conditioning, etc. Like how often do you run, how many tests do you take? I just want to prepare so I dont stand out come this summer.

Army OBC=cakewalk San Antonio vacation, was easier than USAF COT and Navy OIS according to all USUHS army folks. PT test...uhhhh we took one there, tests...don't sweat it.

They need you, they want you, they will not try to scare you.

How many miles do you have to run and how many times over the five wk period.

Army PFT is 2 mile run. I don't know that they do too much organized PT there or not. I would assume they run a couple short runs ~2mi and 1 long run ~3-5mi per week. You'll have to ask Army guys though. I went through Army basic training not OBC so our program was much much more strenuous. If you're not in shape right now start some sort of program now. You'll need it for the PFT not so much the organized PT.

I did the army OBLC recently and it was pretty easy. The part that sucks the worst is the field time it was 3weeks in the field 3weeks out. In the field you have to sleep in tents /w AC and do missions during the day. For example day/night land nav, m16 qualification, M9 qualification, Gas chamber, mass casualty excersises etc. It gets tiring but it dosen't matter if you pass or fail the events. Out of the field you listen to powerpoint all day every day. You take two tests, which are pretty easy to pass. Organized pt happened about 3 times total out of the field. In the field you had to do either combatives or pt every day depending on wether you passed the pt test the first time or not. Um you get a few weekends off, and many days you are done with powerpoint by 3-4 so you can go out and have fun. SeaWorld is free for military and is close. Overall you can have alot of fun there as long as you keep a positive attitude, and don't let all the confusion stress you out.
