Just wondering if any USUHS people lived at Fort Meade while in school? My wife and I are trying to figure out where to live, and it seems that living on post there would make a great deal of sense financially. (I have owned homes everywhere else I have lived in my 9 years on active duty - but, I am not comfortable with the amount of money I will be making and what it costs to purchase in the DC area). Any thoughts on how miserable the commute will be? Any advice would be appreciated.

Not a USUHS student but have lived and worked at the NNMC complex since '96. Traffic on 495 is brutal but you get used to it. It really depends on what time you plan on getting to school. i would recommend looking into the apartments in Bethesda if that's an option. They aren't cheap but the time you save on the commute I personally think would be worth it. BAH would cover, since the cost of living is a killer...🙄

I spent a few years of my time there. The commute is a nightmare. I would recommend living as close to where you will spend most of your time, otherwise you will wind up spending as much time in your car as in your home.

I lived in the Kensington area during my time at USUHS and rode a bike to NNMC and WRAMC. The thing to realize is that you aren't just driving to NNMC, but during your 3rd and 4th year, you'll potentially drive all over the city. Ft Meade is a better option than living way up 270 (given it's access to MGMC) but I'd still have to suggest that you try to find a location more convenient to NNMC and WRAMC.
