Has anyone here heard of the new post-bac program being offered at UT Dallas? Here is the link:

http://www.utdallas.edu/pre-health/pdfs/Certificate Program Flyer.pdfhttp://www.utdallas.edu/pre-health/program/post_bacc.htm

At first glance, it looks to be nothing more than typical undergraduate classes that they will give you a certificate (whoopee!) for after completing 24 credits. Nevertheless, it seems like a decent program for anyone from Dallas trying to improve their application.

Has anyone here taken classes at UT Dallas? If so, what was your experience there?

it deponds where you are standing and what is your background. Make an apointment with Dr.Wright it will be the best you can do. in addition he hates his students get advises from SDN and always warn us about reading SDN. lol  )

Thanks for your input. So you're currently a student at UTD? How do you like it?

sofar so good. I am taking tough courses(immuniobiology, medical micro, and two neuroscience) and it is killing me. If you are untraditional student and working full time be aware of this problem.
G luck 👍

Don't know if your familiar with the Baylor Post-Bacc program but I was recently accepted and if you choose to attend UTD this is the certificate program you are in at UTD. So it must be a pretty decent program if they have enough trust to put us in it. Next time I talk to Dr. Wright I will tell him SDN says hi.

IMO,there is different between Baylor post bacc and UTD biomedical certificate. in baylor program you take 30 hours upperlevel courses in UTD or UNT. in other hand you must have all your prereqs before starting Baylor post bacc.

Are either of you familiar with the academic fresh start program in Texas? I'm curious if you become eligible from your graduation date in undergrad as opposed to the date you first started taking classes.

the best thing you can do is making an appointent with Dr. Wright.
when you will be graudated? or you already have been graudated?

Baylor's postbac program traditionally has a very high success rate of getting students admitted into dental school (usually Baylor SOD or Texas schools). The program is geared for the pre-dental student looking to get an edge on the competition. I've never met anyone who went the post-bac route at UTD to get into dental school. But maybe that's just my luck.

The people in the pre-health dept weren't too encouraging when I came to them with my desires to become a dentist. They told me there was no way I could make it with my grades. 🙄 They wouldn't even bother with my application to the pre-health comittee.

The fresh start policy states that they will disregard any classes you have taken that are over ten years old (from the date of enrollment). This really doesn't help if you screwed up your freshman year and want to start over sophomore year. It may help the non-trad applicant who are looking to get back into school again after a lackluster undergrad career.

tinman,

isnt the post bacc at UTD fairly new? I am looking at a few SMP programs or this post bacc program. The post bacc program at utd would definitely be cheaper as I am a Texas resident.

biomedical cetificate program is very new. I think they have started just last fall or even spring and it is designed more for post bacc pre-meds students.

Ah, I assumed post-bacc as in Masters degree or taking graduate level classes. SOrry. I've been away from UTD for a while.😳

I'll be in this program this fall... I'll update to let people know how its going.

This looks cool, thanks for posting!

It's good to see that there are some interested in the UTD's post-bacc program as well. 🙂

I corresponded with some of the deans for Student Affairs at UT Southwestern and was told to look into UTD's post-bacc program to repair a rocky academic background.

According to the UTD HPAC's site: "For ten years, Dr. Wright served as Director of Admissions at UT Southwestern Medical School. He currently serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics at UT Southwestern."

He could be a good source of advice.

Anyone who's interested in forming study groups with me at UTD this fall, please feel free to PM me. Btw, SDN is such an amazing support group.😍

I was in the Program last semester and after receiving my acceptance to dschool I decided not to go back due to extra expenses, commuting, and I was also done with all my requirements for dschool. I took a neuroscience, ochem II, and Biochem II class. I would say that UTD is not a very social school, everybody is focused on classes. The classes are basically undergrad usually upper lever science courses.
The UTD Postbac program is fairly easy to get into, all u have to do is get accepted into UTD. It is a Great resource if you want to show dental schools that you are willing to improve your GPA. It is especially great for ppl who live in Dallas.
During my Baylor interview, almost all the interviewers asked about the UTD program, and were impressed that I decided to do it. Its a very new program, so they all asked me about it, which was great to have something to talk about during my interview.
Of course the Baylor PostBac program is a lot better to increase you chances of getting into that school, but they only accept a limited # of ppl. The UTD program is a great alternative and any school will be happy to see that you are taking part in any postbac program. PM if you have any questions, I will try to help.
