Hi all:

I know that some of you are waitlisted @ UT-Houston like I am. Since there doesn't seem like there's much feedback from the Admissions office, I did a little searching around the net. This info was found on the med school server. The information was for the Fall 2000 Entering Class, but the accept vs. interview numbers seem similar to what I heard about for this year. I haven't seen these on SDN but if they've already been posted I apologize in advance.

So take these with a grain of salt. Maybe it'll help....

-------

Apps Rec'd (2,787)
Admitted (200)
Rejected w/o interview (1,157)
Interviewed (1,174)
Withdrawn post acceptance (47)
Withdrawn before acceptance (508) <--Is this the Match???
Rejected post interview (475)
---
So it looks like that year roughly 47 folks matched higher or went somewhere else, thereby opening spots for those on the waitlist. That doesn't square with what the admissions office tells you.

Anyone have any ideas? 😕

Good luck to all those waiting to hear! 🙂

Cheers.

Hey there. I'm also on the Houston waitlist (but doubt that I would accept any offers from them at this point). In regard to your question, here are numbers from last year's US NEWS:

The format is: APPLIED INTERVIEWED ACCEPTED ENROLLED
Total: 2,602 1,176 264 204 In state: 2,260 1,138 249 197
Out of state: 342 38 15 7 Women: 1,214 553 120 89
Minorities: 1,161 236 447 72 International: 20 2 0 0
Acceptance rate: 10.1%

As you can see, 264-204 = a difference of 60. This is made up from two portions: accepted students who ended up matching higher (before results were posted), and waitlisted students. This small difference does indicate that a majority of students who matched at houston ranked the school very high in the applicant preference list (compare with UTMB, UTSW for instance).

Like other TX schools, I suspect that waitlist movement will be slim, somewhere in the 10-20 spot range.
