Does anyone know anything about UT-Knoxville? I am trying to get info on programs in the SE to do an away rotation next year (my 4th yr). No one at Univ. of S Carolina has been there so I would appreciate any advice.
try checking out their websites. here is the one for the medical center or the one for the graduate school of medicine here. i have spoken with the family medicine program there and they seem to have a nice program. i am just a second year though, and probably don't now jack about that stuff. i did undergrad at UT-Knoxville though and loved both the university and the city and therefore i want to go back there to do residency training.
How about UT Southwestern? Got an invite there and I really don't know a whole lot about the anesthesia program. I would imagine its purty darn swell considering the hospital as a whole, but I just ain't sure.

Just got back from interviewing there. Pretty good program imo. Pretty busy. Parkland has tons of OB, something like >17,000 deliveries a year. Rotate through 6 or 7 hospitals throughout residency. The call schedule is pretty much q4 your CA-1 year, but about 3 months are home call (depends which hospital you are at). The residents said the Parkland OR pretty much has at least on room running 24/7. Sleep on call is variable depending on how many traumas/emergency surgeries are going on. Call team is generally 2-3 CA-1's and either a CA-2 or 3 (this is how it is at Parkland). They are improving their regional program, as well as increasing the number of hearts and peds cases. The numbers they show, indicate they easily get the necessary amount of cases required, w/OB requirements being easily surpassed in your first month. The only one that caught my eye as being close was regional, but residents say that the numbers have improved markedly this year. ICU months moving to the VA. which they are making a closed unit. They have brough in some new anesthesia intensivists to help w/this and establish a critical care fellowship. Didactics are about 4 hours a week. MTTh am 30 min lecture. Wed am is grand rounds/M and M. They have recently change the am lectures to more of the problem based learning compared to the tradational lecture format. Some other nice benefits including reimbursements for step 3 if you pass it in your PGY 1 year. Also they pay for your licensing exam if you get a certain score (32, i think) on your in-service as a CA-2. Overall a really strong clinical program. As for the interview itself, really benign, get to know you type of thing. In the "tell us how your interview went" thread, there is more details about the interview day. If you have any specific questions I will be happy to answer them the best I can.
