i think they accept 17-18 kids from ar-kansas a year...
my understanding is those 17-18 generally have super high gpas or they are legacy..

Hey everyone, I am a pre-dental student at Vanderbilt University. I am a senior, and I am applying to dental school after I graduate. I wanted to take a year off before I went to school. I currently have a 3.4 gpa, 3.25 science gpa, and I have not taken the DAT.

I am an Arkansas resident, and I am hoping to get into UT-Memphis dental school. Does anyone know how many slots they give out to Arkansas residents, and what are my chances of getting in there? In addition, what does Memphis look for in particular of an applicant? Is it gpa, dat, shadowing, etc? Also, I have not shadowed a dentist yet, but I plan on doing it. How many hours do you recommend that I do that?

If anyone could give me some advice on what else I should do to make me a better applicant, that would be awesome. Also, what DAT score should I be looking at getting to get into Memphis dental school? Thanks a lot for reading my post. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Do you know what it takes to establish state residency? Can I get a P.O Box for six months or simply put a friends address down? What is required? If I get a P.O. Box for six month's, am I eligible to try and get a Tennessee drivers license?

i'd make lsu a priority also...i know they've accept at least one person from your state.

a girl i know at ut-mem..
...i think she was also accepted at lsu (as a resident of arkansas)

i dont know any residency details unfortunately.

UT-Mem takes 20% each year from Arkansas. Each class has about 80 students.

I think it's 6 months...but they want you to be working, file taxes in TN, register to vote, drivers license. Living in the state as a student might not qualify.

If you apply as an AR resident, they'll look at your application immediately and set up an interview if you are competitive. If you apply as a TN resident, they won't look at your application until you prove residency (submit your tax return- this is the biggest thing). So it's up to you- apply now as an AR resident and be compared to a more competive applicant pool, or apply as a TN resident and have your application reviewed later (possibly when many spots have already been filled). The best choice is to have your tax return and any additional paperwork necessary for residency when you apply so you can be considered immediately as a TN resident. UMKC, LSU and UT all have spots for AR residents. There are a few other schools too but I don't know what they are. UT by far takes the most from Arkansas.
