I'm in the process of applying for GPR programs and wanted to know some information about San Antonio. Any info anyone is willing to provide, would be much appreciated. (What's the city like, what is the area around the campus like, what is the graduate dental clinic like, etc.)

My best friend just started the GPR in San ANtonio a few days ago. wait a couple of weeks than he will be able to give you some info. where are you from?

I graduated UTHSCSA in '03. Great town. I miss it quite a bit. When I first moved there I wasn't so sure, but after a year or so I was convinced. The health science center is in a safe/good area with lots of nearby new growth and housing. The town has a great "feel" and culture, even if you don't like Mexican food. You've also got the Spurs to follow. If you're into biking, running, swimmin, and/or triathlons you'll find many places to get involved. If you like to hunt or fish you'll also find lots of opportunities.

Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Thanks guys for your responses. I'm originally from S. Carolina, but am not quite ready to go back to my small town. I would like to go to a GPR that (if possible) provides a good resident experience, but there is a city life for when I'm not at work. It's also a bonus if the hospital isn't in a shoddy area or the building isn't completely run-down.

Demeter, please keep me informed on how your friend likes the program.

tx oms- you definitely think that it would be a good place to spend a year as a mid-to-late twenties male? I know I won't be out all the time, but those times I do have off, I'd like to know that there is a city life, and a social scene (music, bars, the occasional long-legged blue-eyed blonde, etc.). I do like hearing that there is a lot of outdoor stuff to do, I'm really into that...Did you like the clinics and everything? (up to date/old?)

Thanks again y'all-

Clinics are new. When I graduated the GPR chairs/units were new but the walls and cabinets in the bays hadn't been upgraded yet. I'm sure that's changed by now.

If you like music, San Antonio, Austin, and the surrounding Hill Country will be a bit of heaven on earth for you. What kind of music do you like?
