Utah and UNLV OMFS programs?

When I was on the interview trail in 2022 Utah and UNLV both told me that they have plans to open OMFS residencies in 3-5 years. I was just wondering if anyone has heard about that or has more information. Thank you!

They’re trying to hire faculty at Utah it looks like. 6 year program it seems like. Who knows what the timeline is. Established programs are having a hard time filling faculty positions since new grad surgeons in private practice are making roughly the same as a lot of academic surgeons at the end of their careers. I would imagine a new program would be even more difficult.

Utah has been in the process for a while now, but the oral surgery department chair left and they’ve been looking to hire someone for almost two years now. I think it’s going to be delayed a while since they can’t seem to find a replacement for their department chair
