UTenn and scientific publications...help

Can someone tell me if I would be competitive for UT if I have never authored or co-authored a scientific publication? I am just today submitting the application online...Also, am I too late compared to other applicants if I do apply there? (Sorry if this is a repost or a dumb question...)
