UTHSC:
Pros: Close to home (about a 3-4 hour drive), I have heard that UTHSC offers students great clinical experience, a combined test-taking system (not completely sure what this means, but some students said they preferred this over separate tests), has most if not all specialties, and of course, the cost is significantly lower
Cons: I have not been to Memphis before but I have heard some concerns about safety, lack of diversity, I am not sure if this is necessary a con, but they have a letter grades system ( I am not sure if they rank?)
USC:
Pros: Some have said that the PBL curriculum is more suited for the integrated boards (not sure how true this is?), living in Los Angeles seems like it would be a great experience, good clinical experience as well/very hands-on from the jump, specialty programs, extensive alumni network
Cons: The cost is insane, far from home, letter grades system (I suppose??)
Summary: I was thankfully accepted to both schools. I am honestly leaning more towards UTHSC as I believe I should take advantage of having a great school that is in-state(lower tuition and costs). However, I have also heard great things about USC as well. I have heard that USC offers some type of financial aid, but I am not sure if that would make much of a difference. Financial packages aren't released until February and that is well after when I need to make a decision. I would truly appreciate more input as to what other factors both schools may offer. Thank you for your time!
