I am caught between my two top choices. I am a IS student that is From DFW.
San Antonio has a better academic reputation and seems to have a higher clinically focused. San Antonio has a higher specialization rate apparently but I am not too sure if I want to/can specialize. San Antonio is also teaching implants This coming year and will probably only add to the gunner environment (which is a negative considering how much time we will spend with our classmates.
Houston has a far better class culture and over the past few years has become the hardest school to get into in Texas. Houston has the lowest clinical requirements but the students form my interview made it seem this is a positive since students are never held back for missing requirements. Therefore, students can pursue whatever comes their way after completing their reqs. if I have heard that it can be hard to specialize (if you are able to) outside of Houston residency programs.
All Texas dental schools rank amongst the top 5 cheapest schools in the country so I am not factoring cost as much.
