I've been given the opportunity to be babysat by some Trauma Drs atUTHSCSA....

1- I have never ever ever done a formal observation. As a CNA, I have gotten to observe and participate in treatments on patients, on my own, with the RN or with the Dr. Is formal observation much different?

2- There's going to probably be a buttload of actual med students around, and I'd hate to be mistaken for one.. what do I do if all is going crazy and someone tells me to help?

3- What should I wear? I was told not to wear scrubs or jeans or khakis, but that sneakers were ok.

Digging for advice :)

I'm observing there next week in neurosurgery, and I've observed in the past in cardiothoracic and endocrine surgery. I always just wear scrubs, but if they told you not to, I'd wear dress pants and shirt with a tie.

I'm female, and I don't do ties, but thank you :)

The sneakers were strongly suggested.. but I just don't see myself in dress pants with sneakers.

Wonder if black Dickies pants with this kind of top would be ok?

Haha sorry I assumed your sex.

That top looks like it would be fine based on the others I've seen observing.

The Dickies pants should be fine too.

The first time I observed I did rounds in jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. It was sort of embarrassing when the doctor told me I needed to be more presentable.

Do you take notes at all while you're there, or do you just observe out of everyone's way?
