You couldn't use a week of vacation for that overlap? Lots of programs have overlap, but at least you should be able to do that to allow time for travel/orientation. Either way, poor attitude on their part. Sorry you have to deal with that.

What made you decide on UTMB for prelim? Cush schedule?

You signed a contract through June 30th. The prelim program owns you until then. Your advanced program knows this but is bullying you into doing their orientation. It’s an empty threat. They cannot require you to show up to your orientation prior to July 1. Hard stop.

Your prelim program is doing absolutely nothing wrong. You need to seriously chill out. I finished my prelim program on wards, worked 12 days straight, then took my two off days as June 29 and 30 and drive across the country and started work/orientation on July 1.

To re iterate, YOUR ADVANCED PROGRAM CANNOT REQUIRE YOU TO SHOW UP FOR GME ORIENTATION PRIOR TO JULY 1. If you push them, they back down. Your prelim absolutely will not back down because they contractually own you.

atomi is spot-on.

There are many prelims that hook residents up by letting them leave before June 30th, but remember that this is a courtesy - not an obligation.
