UTSW vs. Dell

Hey y'all, this past week I was fortunate enough to prematch at UTSW. I have an upcoming interview at Dell, and I'm trying to decide whether or not I should cancel it. Tbh, Dell's focus on innovative healthcare and service is really attractive to me, but I'm hesitant because it's new and who knows if they'll be able to accomplish all of the awesome goals they have.

UTSW
Pros

• Established, high-ranking
• Parkland + great clinical experiences
• 1.5 preclinical curriculum
• Huge research opportunities (not super interested in research, but this definitely reflects a strong medical school)
• High STEP, great Match
• Reputation will help with residencies

Cons

• Some people say UTSW is still notorious for having lots of gunners. At the interview they addressed this and said it wasn't true, but it's still in the back of my mine
• Dallas is boring and farther from family than Austin
• Can't think of anything else tbh

Dell
Pros

• Innovative mission that is in line with my passions
• Support/foster making active change in the community
• I love Austin; also closer to family
• 1 year preclinical = get clinical experience sooner

Cons

• Still too new? Not established enough
• May impact residency because lacking reputation
• No STEP/Match results
• 1 year preclinical = hardly any breaks, may seem unnecessarily rushed

So, should I cancel the Dell interview? Thanks y'all!

Another Pro----> Dell gives partial scholarships to cover tuition to all its matriculants. % varies.
