UVA MSTP phone interview help

Hi all,
Can anybody tell me what exactly the phone interview is for the UVA MSTP? The e-mail said it's a 15 minute interview with the director but either way, I got an on-site interview as well so is this just an informational session? Any help from past applicants will be particularly helpful🙂

Sure thing!

So the phone interview is not really much of an "interview" per se. It is more of a way for the director to touch base with you and start to personalize your application process. They are very good at that here. He will let you know what kind of research we have going on that you might be interested in, and maybe the names of a few scientists you might want to request meetings with. Gary Owens is great: he knows EVERYONE who works in the hospital and is really good at matching up people with researchers. He is the master networker, and it really benefits the students at UVA tremendously.
