I am faced with deciding between attending UVA and MCV next fall. Both schools have their pros and cons. For instance, UVA has a better reputation, but I've heard it is super hard and the students are very competitive with each other. While MCV does not have as great of a national reputation, I like the idea of block scheduling, and patient contact is greater in the first two years. Also, I've heard that the atmosphere at MCV is a little bit more relaxed than UVA.

Anyway, I was wondering how current medical students decided between these two completely different schools. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats on your acceptances! Both are good schools. I go to MCV...if you have any q's about it I can try to answer them...just PM me anytime. The block scheduling is very nice and the early patient contact wonderful. We also have a lot of extracurricalar oppurtunities and electives and such available to us. I like my school and would love to tell you about it!

One big selling point for UVa for me was the fact that the classes next year will be pass/fail. This eliminates almost all class competition, which the students have already said is almost non-existent. Just a little something to think about....🙂 Good luck in your decision.

what about EVMS???😉

i have friends at both....for sure uva gets better residency but mcv might be more relaxed class schedules......you should ask students......however, both schools are p/f so i mean...it can't be that much harder...but i'm sure there are other SDN'ers with better advice

Actually, at MCV we have H/HP/P/M/F.
