Hey, I was wondering if anyone has had any success at contacting UVA (and getting information) after a long period of being complete? At what point do you think there is the potenital that the application or a mailing has simply gottent lost or overlooked? I have been complete for 3 months now and still nothing but crickets. Anyone else with some UVA info, successes or otherwise?

I would recommend just giving them a call. My turnaround time was 2 months, so 3 months isn't a rediculous wait time. Give them a ring today (the ladies in the office are both really nice), and hopefully you'll find out some good news.

Definitely call them, Janet Small is a wonderful lady. My situation is somewhat different from yours, but I can share an experience with calling the office with you. I had interviewed on 9/21 and was told they would send correspondence on 10/16. A week later I had still not received any mail, so I called the office and she at first told me to wait two weeks. The next week (now two weeks after the correspondence was sent) I called again and she was quite puzzled that I had not received my mail. I told her it wasn't their fault and that Charlottesville's USPS is terrible, but she apologized nonetheless. She said she would re-send it, but I still did not trust Cville's mail services, so I gathered the nerve to suggest to her that perhaps I could walk in to the admissions office and pick up the mail myself. She agreed and I walked in to the office a short while letter and picked up the mail, which was an acceptance letter!! 🙂
This still wasn't the end...they only gave me the acceptance letter, but not the conditions of acceptance that you are supposed to return to hold your place in the class. You are given three weeks to return these forms, and three weeks after my letter was supposed to have been sent, I still had not received them. Once again I called the office and suggested I walk in and fill out the necessary paper work, and she told me that I would need a passport picture as well. So she saved me time by telling me to get the picture first, then to bring it in and fill out the forms in the office.
Point of the story - they were very nice and very accomdating to me, so I think it's worth a shot to call them!
Good luck!

This is very helpful, thanks. I will call today. I had been hesitating because their "application complete" email said that contacting them was unhelpfull. I'll let you know how it goes. 🙂

Edit: I called and they confirmed that I am still in the review process. I am taking that as good news since at least i'm still in the running. 👍 But I suspect that I am not in their preferred pile so far, given the long period since completion. Even still, at least its not a rejection. UVA would be an awesome university to attend for med school. And you all were right, she was very pleasant to speak with.

So, I was inspired by this thread and I went ahead and called UVA today to ask about my status - since like haemulon, it had been over 3 months since I sent in my secondary. Well, it turns out, I had been invited to an interview! But for some reason, I never got the packet in the mail. So, I guess it is good to call sometimes. thanks guys!

Haemulon, good luck!

I was complete at UVA as of 8/23 and heard on 11/30 that I got an interview. I'm in-state but my GPA is <3.5. Don't give up hope yet, Haemulon.

Thanks Andrew!! I was complete on 8/24 I think. So its about the same time. I have actually sent in an update letter fairly recently too, so maybe I will hear something soon as well! 🙂 Its good to know that this length of waiting is not nessecarily an application death sentence. Congrats!!!!

Yeah, I was complete at approximately the same time as you Haemulon, but haven't heard anything from them yet. However, I did call 2 weeks ago (I decided 3 months was as long as I could wait w/o any form of contact) and they claim that my application is still under review. It sucks b/c my stats are good enough to not get me rejected outright, but aren't great enough to get me the early interview like I was hoping for. I'm with you, I am definitely trying to remain optimistic, but am really tired of waiting. Good luck.

Good luck to you too man. The process is so mysterious. It will be a total surprise to actually see a UVA envelope in my mailbox one day (rejection, invite, or otherwise).

I'm really far behind in this process, so I've only been complete at UVA for a few days now. Hopefully it won't take two or three months for me to hear something.

I'll be absolutely ecstatic if I get an interview at UVA though. I LOVE Charlottesville...

Good luck to everyone!

I too have been complete at UVA for nearly 3 months and I just got an interview invite last week (11/30). Sometimes it just takes a while. Good luck to all.

Hey 6feetunder, just out of curiosity, when is your interview date? Mine is scheduled for February 28th, but I think I'm going to call to try and get it moved up a bit.

Andrew1593,

My interview date is Feb. 21, which I thought was a little far out. However, I have also read that UVA does not offer a great deal of interviews, especially to in-state applicants, so there are only 5-6 people per day, meaning that even if you are a few months out, there really are not that many people interviewing between now and then. I am sure people cancel from time to time so a call to try and snag an earlier space may be worth it if you want an earlier spot. I think I will stick to my assigned date because I work full time and it will be relatively easy for me to take a day off in February. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I called the Interview Coordinator and she said that there's a pretty long list of people waiting to move their interviews up. She was very kind and helpful, though.

If anyone else is out there who has a late interview date for UVA, let me know, I'm curious.

Good luck to you, too, 6feetunder!
