Hi everyone,
I am trying to decide between Creighton and UVM Larner. I would appreciate any insight anyone has on either school. I do not know what specialty I want to pursue, so I would like to keep my options open. Right now, I don't know about the cost of each because that will depend on any financial aid I receive, and it is still early to know this. both costs have a similar cost of attendance as appears on MSAR. Support system of family and friends far away from both places.

UVM Larner
Pros:

-I would like to match in the northeast
-P/F grading

Cons:
-Expensive housing in Burlington, VT
-Fully active learning (which would have been a pro for me) but apparently, class is not mandatory, so I do not know how students actually find this.

Creighton
Pros:

-H/P/F grading
-Affordable housing in Omaha, NE
-Lectures are recorded, class is not mandatory with exceptions of some group learning sessions

Cons:
-Not much to do in Omaha
-hard to get research?
-Might be harder to match into competitive specialty if I decide on that

Thank you in advance.

One thing I DIDN’T do that I regret- was consider cost. I wound up picking the most prestigious medical school I got into. Cost literally didn’t even cross my mind.

I liked my med school. And- if I could chose again- I might make the same choice. However- I would consider cost.

My prestigious medical school is a distant memory. I will be paying loans until I am 50. This obviously isn’t the only factor- but - strongly consider this

I think it is important to consider where your support system is as well.

For your cons on Creighton, Creighton has an abundance of research opportunities for Omaha campus. They have their own research facilities and are well established in the area. I am curious as to why you say it is difficult to get into research. For Creighton PHX, sure. For Creighton Omaha, I disagree.

Also, I disagree Creighton would hurt you in matching competitively. Creighton has an impressive match list that matches into competitive programs across the country because their students come from all over. Additionally, if you are looking at "prestige" to help you get into a competitive specialty, Creighton is ranked #77 in the country while UVM is down at #98.

I do understand not wanting to live in Omaha though, especially coming from a coastal city myself. It is different and it's important to consider if you personally would be happy in Omaha. If not, it is worth the extra moolah to go to UVM.

Creighton has a lot of research for the Nebraska location. I dont think going to UVM is worth the extra cost IMO.
