Has anyone heard back from UW post-interview ? They say they don't recruit, but I was wondering if anyone has received ANY hopeful signs (notes, cards, emails, phone calls)? Is UW receptive to telling them how you are going to rank them?

I'm pretty sure that this is exactly what they mean when they say they dont recruit. No notes (from PD or residents), No calls, No emails. Of all the people I know who've interviewed there, no one has gotten anything. I dont think thats weird at all.

I wouldnt worry about it. Dont let it freak you out too much (and definitely dont let it change your rank order!!)

UW (assuming you mean the one in Seattle, not the one in Madison) is one of the programs that maintains complete radio silence post-interview.

I personally think this is a great idea. No juvenile games, no BS, it's almost like they're treating you as an adult.

I did receive a hand written card from the PD, however by no means did it feel like I was being "recruited" in it (just reflecting on some of our conversation). I don't mean to make you nervous... I haven't heard much about other people receiving stuff.

Loved that program (UWash). Amazing PD, amazing residents, awesome city!

Well, at least someone got a card so they do recruit after all! I did not get anything from them either. Maybe they contact only people who they want to rank high?

Thanks y'all, I will continue to wait until March. I am glad they showed you love styleandsugar, so awesome.

I'm pretty sure styleandsugar is a troll. Be skeptical about anything you hear from that account.

Aw, come on, give s&s a chance. For what it's worth, I received a card from UW post-interview last year and several other regular posters on this site did as well.

Huh? Well, my BS detector is up and running.

Doesn't surprise me from what sounds like a bunch of self-important douche-bags at UDub. Telling everyone they don't recruit, yet obviously send stuff to a few people . . . classy . . . That's just bad behavior.

I'm starting to steer students I know away from applying there.

Wow, harsh. I am a UW resident and can comment a bit. We clearly say that we will not send correspondence about match position, i.e. ranked to match. However, I don't see a problem with a friendly note saying that we enjoyed meeting you. Our PD is very friendly, as those that IV here know, and his notes are genuine. We don't respond to "I intend to rank you first" emails/letters and don't send them out. I can see, however, as these type of notes being misconstrued as pre-match correspondence, so you guys have a point. Perhaps I should mention to our PD not to be so dogmatic when he tells people about match correspondence.
I don't see how this makes us "self-important douche-bags". I'm sorry if you had some negative experience with UW and hope that you change your opinion of people you know applying here.
I think we have a very friendly, genuine, down to earth program. If anyone has any questions about UW, please PM me.
Good luck with the match everyone, I know how nerve-racking it is... I am doing the fellowship app thing right now.

Apparently not everyone gets a hand written note. And, it's not like I have any real problem with post interview correspondence per se, none actually. Yet, to say, "we maintain radio silence," or even, "we don't recruit," isn't bourn out by hand written notes to a few choice candidates. Even, if you're not saying specifically, "you are ranked to match," it's very easy to read the, "we liked you message," between the lines. I think it's fine to tell candidates, "if we really like you, you will hear from us," but what I see going on is games, silly games. If you want to piss on my back, fine, but don't further insult my intelligence by then telling me it's nothing but rain.

Do what you say, and say what you do. When I don't see this happening I become concerned about further nonsense. I still maintain this is bad behavior.

Haha, OK thats fine. I'm not going to sweat over it. I acknowledged that it is a little confusing and am going to give our PD some feedback on trying to change the wording of what he says.

Like I said initially, it was DEFINITELY NOT a recruiting letter. Nothing like "I hope you choose us" etc... was stated. It was simply related to a conversation the PD and I had. He is an incredibly nice guy and a straight shooter. He even said on interview day that he would love to hear from applicants afterwards, but does not recruit.

I'm not sure why JDH is so bitter, but I would just ignore it.

cant we all just be happy?

Sorry to disappoint people but I also got one of these hand-written letters from the PD. We had talked a lot on interview day and it was just a follow-up to that conversation so I wouldn't make much of it, but they definitely do send letters to a couple people.

Its a solid program but I also thought it was awkward not hearing from them when I heard from everyone else. But like everyone else says, its just what they do and dont let it effect your ROL.
