UW Match List

Yeah sorry I meant the fellowship list

This is out of the book they gave us on interview day. There are some differences b/t this and when they break it down by class and person but pretty close. Not as impressive as one would have thought from a place like UW but thats mainly because a lot of people do General IM or Hospitalist work.

I am looking at UW as well as Mayo and I have to say I have seen Mayo flamed in many posts for a fellowship list that is frankly far superior to UW's but UW seems to get a lot of props and seems to draw interns and residents from more of the big name med schools....is this just a seattle vs rochester location thing? Any thoughts on a UW vs Mayo comparison?

I agree with piptaz; Mayo's fellowship match list looks great. I don't understand why some people have such a big problem with Mayo. It is a very impressive program, great research, good fellowships, ranked highly in almost everything, great faculty.
As far as residents and which schools they come from, it seems that Mayo gets a lot of the best students from lesser-known schools...

Fellowship matches at UW aren't great because the mentoring is not great. They say they are trying to work on that, though...

The problem is, it's hard to make that comparison to UW, because Mayo doesn't give a yearly breakdown list. They give a list of places everyone's gone to at least once the past 7 years, so of course there's some good names on it.

But we can't tell if Mayo's list - when broken down to 2006-07, 2005-06, etc. - wouldn't look quite similar to UW, given that at least 50% of residents stay at Mayo fellowships. You can't tell if Cleveland Clinic for Cardio means only one person went there in 7 years, or if one goes there almost every year.

When programs don't give out year-by-year fellowship lists, it makes me worry that they're trying to hide something.

I think a lot of the people at UW stick around Seattle for fellowship because the city is so nice. Same with the Cali programs. I always thought Mayo had a very good match list though.
