Just got my acceptance letter today! Anyone else hear any good news, or apply here?

I will be applying for the January deadline. When filling out the online grad school application, how in-depth was your answer to the question asking about your reasons for graduate study, interest in the field, etc? Obviously the essays on the DPT application should be in-depth but I'm not sure how much they want for the graduate school application. In addition, I am also applying to UW-Madison and La Crosse. And congrats on the acceptance!

Congrats! I was accepted as well, but I've decided to attend UW-Madison. Are you planning on going to UWM?

I graduated from UWM's Kinesiology master's program (same department as the PT school), so I can provide you with some insights into the program/school if you'd like.

I didn't spend as much time on the Graduate school's essay in comparison to the DPT application's essays (I was accepted as a grad student a few years ago and as a PT candidate this year). Address all of the questions on the Graduate school essay and answer them properly, but I wouldn't spend as much time on that essay versus the DPT ones.

I was accepted to all three UW schools you'll be applying to, so if you need any advice feel free to ask.

I really want to get into Madison, however UWM is a great value of a program. I have heard it has it's ups and downs, but in the end it was modelled after Madison's program, so it'll all be ok 🙂.

I'm applying to the January deadline, so either way I'll be getting an affordable education compared to MOST of the private and out of state schools.

I couldn't agree more. As attractive as it is to go out of state, in the end you can't argue with tuition under $50K for the entire program. UWM has a very good up and coming program, no doubt. There are several excellent faculty members. You're right, the program does have its' ups and downs, but you would definitely get a great education. For me it was an easy decision to choose Madison; how could you turn down going to Madison versus the other 3 state schools?

So you'll be applying for the general admission cycle for Madison? Good luck, and if you need any advice I'm happy to help! 🙂

I'll gladly take I can get. I had 3 outstanding pre-reqs until now (because Madison requires Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology) So this was my only choice.

Although I do feel great about getting into UWM (only 24 students!), I was waitlisted at UW-L (well, pushed back to the next deadline, waitlisted in my eyes 😛 ), so I guess I'm just really trying to guage my chances off of that.

I like that they require you to take those courses; ex phys and biomechanics will prepare you very well for PT school. Did you take those at Marquette?

The nice thing about Madison is that there is no major benefit or drawback with using either application date. Your stats look very good, so I think you will have a great chance of getting in to Madison. On your personal statement, make sure to include things about yourself that they won't be able to find on your application, transcript or observation forms.

You can definitely feel good about getting into UWM! It is a very hard to get in there with the small class size. You also have a very good shot at getting into UW-L for the general admission cycle. If nothing, I would imagine you would definitely be waitlisted with your stats, and since I'm not going there at least one more spot will open up.

I have heard from a few students at UW-Madison that they were declined by UWM, so you definitely have a good shot at getting in. A great personal statement and letters of recommendation will go a long way.

Well, I'm definitely going to UWM now! Anyone else joining me this May? (That is, unless Mayo takes me off the waitlist 😛)

Hey! Congratulations on getting accepted to the UW schools! I am new to this site and am finding it very interesting. I like the idea of feeling connected with others going through the same process. I will also be applying to the three UW schools, but I am very nervous. I did not see any of your stats posted, but I would love to see them to see some of the numbers they are accepting.

Thanks!

With a class size of 24... I doubt anyone on this board will be in it, but will anyone be joining me this May?

I will be applying for the 2013 start. I am working on my prereq.s and observation hours now. I am doing my prereq.s at the University of Northern Iowa. (But I am a WI native!)

Undergrad:
Iowa State University
B.S. Elementary Education/ Minor in German
GPA: 3.6, Cum Laude

Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society for Education, Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children, etc....

GRE: 1170

I taught at the Community College for a year. I also have taught a little bit of everything K-12, including PE and Special Ed. I student taught in New Zealand.

NASM certified personal trainer: I started my own personal training business.

I have done a lot of misc. volunteering, and I belong to a few different honor societies, clubs on campus, and organizations in the community.

I have a lot of experience teaching and working with people, so I'm hoping that will work in my favor. I know I need a lot more observation hours. Does anyone have any other suggestions for padding my application?

I will be going to Milwaukee, the class that's starting in may.

I applied for the early deadline, so found out a while ago. Heard yesterday I didn't get in at UWL, so Milwaukee it is!

Same here 😛... I think the majority of it was that I did not turn in my updated transcripts, and well, I only had a 3.6 GPA, not their "average 3.7" 😛....

Anyway!

Glad to see someone else that's actually going there!

Sounds just about like mine, I had a 3.65 and was about 50 points below the GRE average. I guess when they only accept 15% that's what happens.

Just so glad I did get in to Milwaukee!

Honestly, its one of the cheapest around. I got into Midwestern and Bradley as well, and... lets just say they want about 3-4x as much! (I take it youre from in-state?)

I went to undergrad in Minnesota but actually from Madison, so really not far from Milwaukee at all.

Anyone else?

Also, did you receive any concrete info yet? I was told we would get something this week, but right now I'd love something to read! 😀

If I had the option I would not attend the UW Milwaukee physical therapy program. While the tuition is inexpensive there is a reason for that. Sticking with programs that have been around a long time ensures that the programs have had the time to weed out faculty which definitely do not belong while solidifying their curriculum. No body wants to be in a program that is learning from their mistakes at the expense of the students.

Once again, they already had 2 classes go through the entire program already that had a 100% pass rate. They obviously did something right with those 48 people now, didn't they?

Sorry forget it! I didn't see your post that says your stats.
