I came across a question that asked how to treat DVT and there are several choices of drugs that you can use to treat DVT.
DVT management:
* Heparin (anti AT3) for immediate treatment (that will reduce clot formation)
* Then you want to give oral meds to prevent recurrent clot formation
* Warfarin can be given (Vitamin K inhibitors)
* Xa inihibitor can be given
* Thrombin inhibitors
* Warfarin prolong PT; little effect on PTT/TT. Thrombin inhibitor prolong TT; little effect on PT/PTT.
* Direct Xa inhibitor prolongs PT/PTT but not TT.
My question is why not prolonging TT is favorable over the others? Thank you.
