Just wanted to let everyone here know... Myself and 3 of my friends all took step 1 within the last 6 months.

I know there are UWorld score converters out there (which ALL greatly over-predict scores in MOST (most does NOT = all) cases.)

I had my suspicions while I was studying this was true, however... all 4 of us found that our score was predicted from out total UWorld average by the following formula (we all did the questions timed/random/unused):

UWScore * 2 + 80

Every one of our score was predicted to within 3 points using this formula. I think the old formulas of x2.4+84 or whatever may have worked in the past, but the step 1 is constantly becoming more difficult to try and stay ahead of First Aid and Uworld.

Take this for what it is, but this is my experience.

(UWScore * 2 + 80) is 30 points lower than my actual score
(x2.4+84) is 10 points higher than my actual score

From my group of friends, the Uworld self assessments were the most accurate. We were all -7 to -5 from our Uworld assessments.

I was 20 points higher than any of my NBME practice tests

Hmm... Then your UW% score would be:

UW% x 2 + (80+30) = UW% x 2.4 + (84-10)
UW% x 0.4 = 36
UW% = 90

And your actual Step 1 score would be:

(90) x 2 + (80+30) = 290

or...

(90) x 2.4 + (84-10) = 290

That's hard to believe. Did I miss something??

Anyway, UW 50th percentile is in the 55%. With the OP formula that would predict a 190.

Also, someone scoring 65% would predict a 210... seems very low. You would actually need a 80% to predict a score of 240!!

Seems like those numbers would underpredict a lot of scores.

I just did quick, ball-park math in my head and I was off by a lot, hah. Sorry.

Uworldscore*2+80 = 23 points lower than actual
(x2.4+84) = 10 points higher than actual

Yups, that's an amazing score... congrats... I'd be happy with 15 less, but I'll be cool with what you have too, lol.

I was going to start reviewing the material for mine next summer... but everyone I've talked to have discouraged me - saying it's too early to start thinking about step (1yr away), but some of us just lack the confidence on waiting (light reading over the summer wont hurt, right? just to review what I've learnt and then preview year 2 material)...
