UWorld Biostats subject review - worth it?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'd do it unless you're really comfortable with stats. I personally sucked so I'd think I understood some FA equation then not be able to apply it at all so doing questions were very helpful.

I did the course and I thought it was REALLY good. I know I got at least 2 points on the real test from info that wasn't in the QBank Qs. Also, when you complete the course, you'll destroy the QBank Qs and it really boosts your confidence. It not too long and worth the bills

I've never heard of this before. How long is it and what is the format?

DIT dismantles biostats....I had no problem with it on the Step...I hope? Hahahaha.

There are around 15 mini modules with a pre-test at the beginning and then a general, lengthy explanation paragraph at the end. It's not like UWorld though where it goes question by question. Example: you have a 6 question quiz, submit and then there is a long "article" that systematically goes over all the questions. "Concept concept concept (question 1), concept concept concept (question 3) Concept concept concept (question 2)." I liked it more than Uworld because it was giving a story about the concept and not just saying "This is wrong" It also goes in a nice order from basic concepts to chi squared testing at the end, which was great for me because I had forgotten all my stats. You could do it a day if you needed to, there are probably only 50ish question. I broke it up over 6 days just to let the info simmer. If I remember correctly it just costs 25 dollars.

Full disclosure: I did feel a little like Simple Jack when I purchased it, but my foundation was really great for the test and I torpedoed all the stats questions on the real test...

Defenitely going to do this. I'm terrible at biostats, always forgetting about ARR, and stuff LOL

I actually had one tricky biostats question on my exam, but for the most part the questions I did get were not tough at all (odds ratio, sensitivity/specificity stuff, etc). I absolutely recommend doing the UW biostats questions.

In addition make sure you know what a receiver-operating curve (ROC) is as that has showed up recently on exams.

I have not yet had Stats in my coursework but I was thinking about doing this in the summer before we learn all of that. Any thoughts on this or should I just wait until afterwards? My school does stats as a ~1 week block. Thanks in advance 🙂

We had about 2 or 3 weeks of biostatistics and epidemiology, and that was more than enough to teach the stats - in fact went well and beyond what we need to know for the real exam. I would just wait till you're studying for Step 1 to refresh on them.

I haven't had stats at my school yet so I was actually trying to figure out if this would be helpful to do in advance of classwork? Thanks again 🙂

What point in your education are you at exactly? I'm kind of confused right now. Are you at the end of your 2nd year about to take step 1? Or going to start your second year.
