There are some 2-part questions on USMLE World where the case scenario in the 2nd question gives away the answer to the 1st question. I would think UWorld would restrict you from changing your answer to the 1st question upon moving to the 2nd question, but they don't. Is this type of thing common on the real Step 3? And if I see something like this, should I change my answer to the 1st question? Here is an example:

Q1: "Case scenario of a stroke.... Which is the next best step?"
A. Bedside swallow
B. Fibrinolytics
C. IV Mannitol
D. LP
E. Statin

Q2: "Formal evaluations reveals that the pt has normal swallowing capabilities. Fibrinolytic therapy is witheld and he is given ASA....etc etc"

Doesn't Q2 case scenario pretty clearly give the answer to Q1??

Thoughts?

On a real exam, you cannot change your answer to the 1st question once you've moved on to the 2nd question. And you are right: the way 2nd question is worded usually makes the right answer to the 1st question immediately obvious. At least with these ones you'll know right away whether you got it correctly or not 😉

The weird thing is that UWorld does that on some of their continuation questions (moving onto the 2nd question restricts a change in answer on the 1st question). But it does not do this for all its continuation questions. Weird.. Thanks for the insight.

I know. I used UWorld for step 3 and noticed the same thing. Won't happen on a real exam, for sure: once the answer to the first question is chosen, there is no going back.

Not true. UWorld has it right: On my exam, there were some questions where you are required to "lock in" the answer to the first part before you can see the second part, but there are also some where the initial passage applies to more than 1 question and you are free to go back and forth.
