In completing the UW QBank, I have noticed there are some concepts or principles tested that I had not heard of previously and not come across in any review book. For example:
  • bronchogenic cysts present as MIDDLE mediastinal mass
  • in Blastomycosis, you can have lytic bone lesions
  • use of end-inspiratory and end-expiratory hold pressures to calculate plateau pressure and PEEP

Are these concepts (listed above) things that I should just learn from doing UWorld, or I should have known from prior knowledge/reading? I try to eliminate answer choices based on critical thinking / deductive reasoning whenever possible. But for example, I crossed out Blasto because I was like "oh that does not cause lytic bone lesions" on that question.

I assume this is why people say "use UWorld as a learning tool" -- in the sense that you will learn new concepts you will not have seen before.

Pretty sure the first two bullet points are things that either in review books or you should have learned in medical school. Especially the first one - bronchogenic cysts are one of the biggest things on the differential for mediastinal masses - that might have been covered either in surgery or in pediatrics - I read about it because I did a peds surgery rotation.
