So, I'm working my way through First Aid (10-15 pages/day) and I've started to knock out uworld as well. However, since my test date isn't until 6/21, I've been doing uworld in the untimed/non-tutor mode, and haven't been going back and looking at the answers.

My thinking here is that I want to get a good baseline for the exam (after 300 questions on random I'm at 65% correct), prior to even finishing first aid (i'm on page ~200 atm). I have been keeping up with RR Path throughout the year and we work in an organ system path/pharm/micro schedule during the 2nd year, so it's quite fresh for me...

My question is, has anyone tried going through the 2k questions prior to doing the tutor mode learning exercises? My goal was to get through First aid, BRS, etc by mid April, then really nail down Uworld (x3) and First aid (x3) during May and June.

I ALWAYS do timed non-tutor mode when answering questions. I do it because it forces me to keep my timing up, but I've also found that I answer differently when in tutor mode. I tend to think less about the question and just click something to see what they say. Even if I only do 10 or 15 questions, I treat it as an exam this way. I then go through and review EVERY answer pretty well. Some days are better than others with the depth, but I try to take away at least 1 thing every time I do questions.

I'm around 50% through on a first pass now. My current rate, I'll be done about a month to 2 weeks before we start studying for our comprehensives and step 1. (About a 6 week span total)

I will then clear everything and start fresh probably. I'm viewing the questions now as more of learning how to think through them and refreshing memory/learning. I also paid the extra cash for the two diagnostics. I will do one around springbreak in a month to get a better idea where I am.

I'm doing UW in tutor mode and my test is also in late June. I've only had it for a week and, while some of the questions are a little out there, I love it. I retain info much better by Q and A. I'm not great at learning by passively reading page after page so I find the questions + explanations in Uworld to be meaty enough to be helpful without too much info bogging me down. I also find it's easier to compartmentalize and retain concepts/facts when I have a question/scenario to associate them with. I still use RR as a reference but the only book I'm gonna focus on before my study period is FA (I'm annotating stuff from Uworld into FA as I go). Ain't no way I'm gonna finish all 2k questions before I start my dedicated study.

If you're able to juggle RR, FA, and all the Uworld questions before your study period starts you'll be in baller shape...I wouldn't fret about tutor mode. Just keep doing whatever works for ya.

I have been going through in non-timed tutor mode and my STEP is in June. I usually create tests with what I am currently studying or pick MSI topics to review. The plan is for me to finish going through on selected tutor mode test by the end of March then I will reset and go through everything again on timed random before my test date and then review marked and incorrect questions a 2nd time.

I guess I should've been a little more specific.

I am simultaneously selecting whatever system we are working on in class and doing those questions as well. On the weekdays I do random, unused. Sunday I usually do a random 46 question block with all questions.

I've discovered that one of my biggest problems with doing unused questions for each system and then selecting unused questions for my random day is that it skews the test towards everything I haven't covered yet.

I'm half debating buying a month of kaplan qbank when that time comes. Really, it just depends on how much I feel like I am remembering because I've seen the questions versus actually knowing it. I just took a random unused block and got an 80+%, but I felt like I've seen a lot of the questions before and may be slightly misrepresentative of what I truly know.

FWIW I've been using USMLERx to do questions on the systems we're doing and they seem to be very good questions. We have kaplan provided by the school but the questions are absolute junk. I'd rank them as questions of last resort if you've done all the other questions you could find and have nothing else.

I plan on using Uworld closer to the actual exam after we've gotten through most of the systems.

Were you doing the COMLEX Qbank questions or the Step 1 questions? I thought the COMLEX and Physio qbanks were junk, but the Step 1 Qbank seems pretty good...

So I decided to pick up usmlerx for the next 2 months (should getyrough it in 50 days or so) and keep usmleworld for the final 2 months. $160 is a smile price to pay for 3000 questions, many of which are directly referenced to first aid pages.

We'll see how it goes!

Anyone else also using the studentconsult RR path questions? Any good?

Hi....🙂
Got my dates in end of March,....
RR path....is a must-read...
awesome conceptual work....many places gives concepts lacking in Kaplan....Besides the direct reference to UW series...where the answers are sourced from RR.
I prefer using RR 2nd edition with Goljan audio lects.....
coz the 3rd edition is a compilation of diagnostic treatment n surgery given along with the topics......becomes more of a step2 n 3 read.......u don't need stuff like that now!!
I suggest go for RR 2nd edition....🙂
All d best!!
