UWSOM Ranked Alternate List Movement 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks RisingSun, I'm definitely getting anxious about getting an official acceptance. But I think I am even MORE anxious about the lottery. I want to know where I can be, so I can figure out a summer job.

Haha, I keep checking too, hoping dream.big will be accepted -- after dream.big, I'm next! Let's hope they email before the May 18th lottery for WSU.

Just got the acceptance email! So they are at least through #12.

Congrats dreambig! Good to see things moving along again

CONGRATS, dream.big!!

So this means I'm next . . .

Thanks you guys! *warm fuzzies* Love this UWSOM crew, can't wait to be classmates in the fall!

I just got my acceptance email today! Woohoo!

I hope everyone on the waiting list gets in!!

Congrats Dreambig and Lizolix!!!!! I thought the list was never going to move again, haha. Hopefully the list keeps moving, waiting is no fun, but the UWSOM is well worth the wait!!!

lizolix, welcome to the club! 👍

Congrats!!!:hardy:

Congrats to those who just got accepted. I was going to move to LLU but something very serious happened last weekend with my family. So the chance of me rejecting UWSOM now is incredibly small. I think I will join you guys for next year then. Hope there's no bitter feelings from anyone who's waiting. I'll let you know definitely on Monday the 14th.

Hi Everyone,

I know this thread is for those on the waiting list, but I thought I might give my question a shot here, since I am assuming that many of you are from WA state.

If you did attend Evergreen then here is my question:

How did you figure out how to CORRECTLY enter your no grades - hard to interpret - Evergreen transcript? I have this block of classes in my senior year which were part of a program so they aren't attatched to any quarters.

AMCAS and Evergreen have been no help whatsoever.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. 🙂

So heading into what hopefully will be an exciting week, who do we have left? I'm still waiting, originally at 23...

I just got my acceptance e-mail!!!!! I was #21 originally so good luck to all those left on the waitlist.

:banana:Congrats!!!

The list is moving pretty fast.

Just got my acceptance email too 😀 Finally the wait is over!!!

Congrats too FutureDr!

Hot damn, it seems like the list went from a stand-still to warp speed! Were you #22, speedyE? Oh, man, I hope the ranked list empties out early enough for us unranked souls to have a shot.

Big ol' congrats to everyone who's gotten in so far. Heck, even making it to this point is a pretty good achievement!

jazzman, I was #23. If I remember correctly, I was told there were 27 ranked spots this year so at this rate I would imagine there will be a good number of unranked waitlisters getting pulled. I wish you the best of luck.

UWSOM told me on May 14th that there was only 1 person remaining to be accepted off the ranked list.

Nice! They should pit us all against each other in Safeco or Qwest stadium in a giant battle royale and have Dr. Samson give individual combatants 👍 or 👎

Does anyone know how many people are on the unranked list?

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted off the waitlist recently!

I know I don't chat on this thread all the time, but I just want you all to know I've been reading along and cheering for you...Great job everyone! I'll see you second year in Seattle!!

Hi ilovelucy,
I didn't attend Evergreen but I just want to give some suggestions for your situation since I didn't see anybody response to your post.
First of all, I want to say that attending a school with nontraditional grade like Evergreen is your disadvantage. Though you can't go back to your college choice, I think you should do the best you can now.
Here's my suggestion what you might do. You can go back to your professors and ask them if they were give you a grade (letter or grade point average) what would they give you and maybe get them to enter that into their evaluation in your transcript. Bring your transcript to them so they can remember their evaluation of you. You should tell them your situation (wanting to applying to medical school and needing traditional grade for your classes) and ask them to help you out. I know this will be a pain and a lot of work, but medical school really deserve your best effort.
Good luck with everything!

I've been told by a current student at Evergreen that they (the folks at Evergreen) actually offer a service for people in your predicament. You pay a fee, and they go over your evaluations and convert them into grades (formally and officially) that can be used when applying to programs that require them. I don't know anything about this service, but you should look into it.

There is a good thread I found that looks like it addresses this issue.

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=284279

Especially look at posts #6 and #20 (clarification of #6). It appears that you don't need to convert any of the evals to grades, but that you'll have to notify each school when your GPA comes up as 0.00. Wasn't too much of a problem for the posters on the thread in the long run.

Your lack of grades might make an interesting conversation point in your interviews too 🙂

So apparently everyone from the ranked list and one person from the unranked list, with two others also to be pulled off the unranked list, have been accepted!

Congrats to everyone on the ranked list that got in! I guess that UW really does choose just the right number of people to be pulled off the list. I was real worried that this year would be an anomaly, but I we all got in so I guess it was just like year's past.

Can't wait for the lottery results tomorrow and to meet all of you at orientation!

what did you mean by the lottery results?

what did you mean by the lottery results?

The lottery is to determine who, of the remaining Washington residents who did not volunteer, will spend their first year at the Pullman/Moscow WWAMI site. When people say "WWAMI'ed," that's also what they are talking about. About 20 students go each year, but it only applies if you are a Washington resident.

There will be forty students in the lottery tomorrow for five WSU spots. I was told, however, that they will actually select more than five because some of those selected will be able to successfully plead their case to stay in Seattle.

They draw names out of a barrel, apparently.

G'luck all!:luck:

A barrel? Really? That is too cool.

Personally, I was oh so close to volunteering for WSU based on a number of good things I have heard. However, since I've actually never even been to the area, I figure I better leave my fate up to the lottery.

I wanted to let you guys know that I just volunteered to go to WSU, Pullman for the first year. I love WSU/Pullman and have heard great things about their program. Can't wait though to meet all of you second year. Best of luck in the "Draft", at least its to go to Pullman and not the military right?, HAHA.

I am sure that this is a stupid question that I could probably search the forum for, but when is the deadline for relinquishing all acceptances but one? I am still holding a few because schools are very slow about getting financial aid info back to me. For me a lot of these schools are near equivalent and thus the financial aspect really could be a deciding factor. I am guessing that I am still in the green at this point because I find it hard to imagine that we are suppose to make the decision before seeing the financial aspect....but I thought I better ask to be safe.

Thanks.

May 15th was the day. They won't drop you without telling you, and generally they give warnings followed by threats before they drop anyone. Still, you're in a precarious position at this point. You should call the schools whose acceptances you're holding and ask for an extension of the deadline. Explain that you are waiting for financial aid information. Other SDNers have done this this year and have been granted the extension. Just be sure to be completely open with the schools so that you don't put yourself at risk. They'll let you know how imperative it is for you to make a decision immediately, or within a few days, or by the end of the month, etc.

Quick question...do they notify people accepted off the unranked list by email or by snail mail?

In the past threads, I read somewhere that everyone gets an email on acceptance. Best way is to call the admissions office until you get accepted 🙂

I know they are DOING the draft/lottery today, does anyone know if that means we will hear the news today? Via email you think?

I was checking the class thread from last year, and it looks like they actually got phone calls. With their reliance on emails that surprises me, but if history is any indication that will be how we're informed. Still, I think we would hear today (and then have all weekend to scour over craigslist!)

does anyone know how many people have been taken off the unranked list?

I just got an email from Brooke letting me know that the lottery was done and my site placement. It's funny because I was already placed at my site 2 weeks ago. So I guess people should be receiving emails soon. Good Luck!!!

As of yesterday, one officially and two pending.

Does two pending mean that only 3 people will make it off the unranked list at all or that they've only made decisions on 3 at this point? I couldn't get any info on how many spots they're looking to fill.

Obsessive post award goes to....ME!

Sorry, can't answer that one. My impression was that as of yesterday, they have needed to pull three people off the unranked list. Who knows how many more people will drop in the months to come.

Ok, so I'm officially going to Pullman. I told myself over and over that I can't let myself get bummed about this. I'm an eastern WA girl afterall! Just kinda hard when I've spent the last 4 years spending time every day with my significant other, the thought of being across the state and not having his support when I come home from school is terrifying. Must convince myself this is a GOOD thing, right?

On a slightly different note, any females going to Pullman looking to get an apartment together?
