I've never seen so much sincere sympathy. Thanks a lot guys... it helps a lot.

I just gotta move forward, I guess. What else is there to do? Hopefully the Exit Interview will help me figure out what I need to do next. I wish you all the best of luck.

Best of luck to you as well... whatever you end up doing for the next year (I'm assuming, from your wording, that you don't have other offers... but I hope I'm wrong). For now, though, go do something nice for yourself, eat ice cream, take a day off and do something you enjoy. You deserve it.

And yes, definitely go to the Exit Interview so you figure out what you need to knock 'em dead next time.

Content - thanks for starting this thread, so sorry to hear about UW. will you apply again next year?

Well, the final excom meeting has been going for just under an hour now... good luck to the rest of us still waiting. It'll be good to have some closure, and even better to hear good news.

Geeaaaaaach. I hate waiting.

I called earlier and spoke to Brooke, which was singularly unhelpful (not her fault, though). I'm still complete... and the completeness is driving me batty. Anyone going to call at the end of the business day? I'm trying to decide whether to cool my jets until Monday, or take my life in my hands and call.

Meanwhile, I may vomit.

:boom:

Thanks, AlaskaHopeful!

Checked my status at lunch. Action was taken on the 27th...!!!! Called, already knowing the outcome. Rejected. If you make it through today without getting the action taken message you are probably in pretty good shape.

Good luck to everyone still in it.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else here, application has been complete for a long time now. What number are you calling to talk to admissions? I called, but they forwarded me to an answering machine. I really don't want to wait for Monday.

Truly sorry to hear it, XT777! Hope other options are working out for you...

The once large pool is shrinking at a frightening rate.

I called the main SOM number and was transferred to admissions, where I talked to Jenny. If you have not been rejected yet, then you're either going to end up an alternate or accepted. They won't know which until early next week. If you're accepted, you'll get an email, if alternate listed, you'll get regular mail. Jenny said she didn't yet know how many people would be on the alternates list.

Good luck to you guys still hanging! Here's hoping we make it!

Edit: I think I understood what she was saying... she was having trouble explaining.

Hmm... if what you say is true, we're in pretty decent shape! Hopefully you understood what she was trying to say 😉

Here's to a few more days of waiting...

I talked to Jenny as well and got pretty much the same story. If your application still says "complete" then you are either accepted or on the wait list. Although she seemed to think that the wait list was much more likely.

What made you/her think this?

yes... please share. she didn't say anything to me that would have given me this impression - maybe you asked better questions. perhaps they've filled more of the class already with their new "reduce the pool" strategy, so there are fewer spots left to give out?

the initial excitement has worn off and now i'm left worrying again... and knowing that this could mean another five months of the endless waiting. not that i'm complaining, mind you, because a waitlist is better than a rejection, but it would mean that i still can't move forward with my life. but really, wth. i'm five months post-interview, what's another five?

i love you, UW... please let me in!

also, congrats to those who have made it this far.

pooh. Just got back and checked the status and action was taken on the 26th. Guess that means I'm definitely rejected?

Sigh.

Awww ****... I'm sorry ruraldr! I'll hang onto hope that it means something else, but I gotta say, based on others' experiences the last couple days, not looking good. Do you have other options?

How was your trip?

trip was good saw some interesting cases and met some great doctors, nurses, PAs etc...--although traveling in the snow today was a bit crazy!

Feeling pretty bummed out. I think I had talked myself into thinking that my worst case would be unranked waitlist--hurts a bit to have waited so long for an outright rejection. Guess I should have stayed away from this place for a couple more days? (ignorance is bliss)

I have one waitlist, but thinking that I'll probably be going through this all again next cycle.

Congrats in order to you and pj (sounds like you are super likely to make it in!)

Sorry to hear... it's said to see another person go down. 🙁

It's also kind of strange right now because it's not so much that HIVdoc2b and I have done anything or been accepted yet, it's more like we're surviving the process.

Anyway... good luck with your waitlist or next year.

You are going to be an awesome doc - this doesn't change that. It sucks, though! Take a day off, go have some fun, do something you enjoy and eat some ice cream. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your waitlist school comes through for you.

Thanks for the congrats - but they've yet to decide our fates, and we might just be doomed to be rejected after 5 more months on the waitlist.

Stupid admissions game! 👎

thanks--it's been fun talking to you guys. People like you are what make me most excited about the UW as a school.

🙂

Man!!! All of you who didn't get accepted this year (and if you'll have to take another year to try again) better re-apply to UW next year again so that we can all be classmates. I'd be COMPLETELY honored to be in the same class as you guys!!!! (My sympathies for this year though... 🙁 )

Yes, I'm going to try again. (I have one other place I'm waiting to hear back from, but... yeahhhh, who knows).

My suggestion? Go somewhere (I went to a newly discovered gorgeous park) and just take the time to truly realize that this isn't the end of the world and that nothing is stopping you from trying again. (work with me here and just make believe you're all rich and can afford to do this again! ) Anyhow, you all get the point. I'm still going to be reading the thread and hoping for the best news for the ones still left!

I'll throw my hat in with Contentablue here - y'all better reapply to the UW the next time around because I also would be honored to attend the same institution as you! (Whether I get in this year, or in two years, it still applies).

For those actually in Seattle, if anyone is interested I'd love to meet you guys and put usernames to faces and real names. When I first starting browsing SDN, I figured everyone on here was a total schmuck/gunner/most irritating kind of pre-med. You guys, on this thread, have proven my first impression wrong, and I thank you for it.

my sympathies to you ruraldr and XT777. Best of luck to you whatever you decide to do next. I may be in the same boat as you in a few weeks.

Guys, I just want to say that I checked my emails from UW around this time last year and I did not receive any email from them (unless I erased it, which is highly doubt) until my official acceptance email (I was on the ranked waitlist) from Brooke in late April. I did, however, call Monday morning and was told at that time that I was on the ranked waitlist.

They might be doing things differently this year, but I would hang onto hope until you receive a letter that says that you have been rejected.

Good luck all.

When Jennifer told me that the lack of any change in my status meant that I wasn’t rejected, I excitedly replied “so what you are saying is that I am either accepted or on the wait list.” She said something to the effect that although it was possible that I would be accepted the odds were that I am on the wait list and that I would be receiving an e-mail on Mon-Tues if I were accepted or a letter via snail mail if I were on the wait list.

I have two theories as to why she said this:
1– She didn’t want to imply that I was accepted so that I can’t call on Tues angrily and say “but Jennifer said that I was accepted.”

2 – By this point in time a big chunk of the class must be filled and there are probably enough candidates to fill the remaining seats and then generate a wait list that is probably larger than the remaining number of seats. So pure odds would be that the chance of getting put on the wait list is greater.

I see what you mean. It's probably a combination of both. On one hand, she didn't want to get your hopes up unnecessarily. Also, there are probably a huge list of people who were put on hold compared to a much smaller number of open spots, making the the odds of being waitlisted much higher.

Anyway, thanks for the info. Good luck to everyone still left! Monday can't come soon enough (never thought I'd say that!).

ruraldr and I were PM'ing about meeting up. Give a holler if you're interested - or if you want to exchange names so we can be facebook buddies. Or both.

I also am in the "Monday CANNOT come soon enough" boat... best of luck to you guys!

I'm also still in limbo. I hope we hear on monday and not later.

What up duders. Just got back from Creighton, that place was rad and the interviews went as good as an interview can go...

For some reason I am not as disappointed about UW this year as I was last year...can't put my finger on it, but everything happens for a reason, so I will find out what that reason is sometime down the road....

My sympathies to all the regulars on here who got the boot (contenta, rural, xt, anyone else im forgetting...)

This does leave a sour taste in my mouth about UW though, and I will happily go somewhere else if accepted this year. However, I'll happily facebook friend any of you... Dane Stevenson (part of Georgetown, Whitman Alumni, and Washington D.C. networks)

Just got a Georgetown interview too, so here's hoping Creighton or Georgetown will pan out this year!

And by god, good luck to the rest of you still hangin on...

to put things in perspective:
acceptance = good
ranked waitlist above #12 = good
ranked waitlist below #12 = iffy
unranked waitlist = not so good, but dont lose hope....

last year the ranked waitlist was exhausted, and for last MANY years, they get down to #12. if trends follow last year, ranked waitlist = acceptance.

I'm all for facebook! PM me and I'll let you know who I am 🙂 (Invitation extended to whomever wants to get to know each other)

Looks like I got cut as well. Action on the 26th. No love from public schools this year, instate or out. Hopefully there are still spots out there somewhere for all those rejected! It felt darned close...

Oo, I'm sorry to hear that 🙁 Are there any others you're waiting to hear back from?

I CAN'T WAIT!

Oh Carol, why do you keep us hanging like this?

At least I can attempt to be distracted by the Davidson, KU game...
got my popcorn by my side...:corny:

good luck everyone

doctor carol teitz
please fulfill my desire 😍

I need......acceptance

haiku anyone?

hey alaska,
seems like if the doctor thing doesn't work out, you'll at least have a backup career in poetry. Your haiku reminds me of one of my t-shirts. I got it as a going away present from the lab I used to work at. The shirt reads...

Haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense

Its absolutely impossible to get any productive studying done. Studying makes the time creep by. Its like this entire weekend has gone by in slow motion. I've even dreamed about getting accepted for the last 3 nights. I can't wait to know for sure. Good luck tomorrow everyone. :luck:

just curious, has anyone received an email from UW yet, or were all these updates (last two pages) based exclusively on telephone calls?

Phone calls, as far as I know. Based on my phone conversation on Friday with the office of admissions: If you were rejected, you'll be getting snail mail probably early this week - those decisions were made Wednesday and Thursday and were reflected in status change on the rainier.dom.washington.edu page. Friday was devoted to MSTP candidates, and I guess also choosing accept vs waitlist for the regular MD candidates (whose stati still say complete)... If waitlist, you'll get mail, if accepted, email and mail.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to return to feeling like I might vomit. Last time I was this nervous was when I got my MCAT scores back, which is interesting since probably part of the reason I'm in this fix is because of said MCAT score.

GOOD LUCK, y'all! :luck:

I have one more out there, sort of at the same spot as I was for UW. It is my last chance for US schools. I've been accepted to an Israeli school, which I am excited about. So I don't deserve much sympathy. And I'm in India, so my mind is more than occupied... and I won't even have to look at the rejection letter! How about you? Any outstanding?

if I call today, what are the chances that they would tell me whether I have been accepted or waitlisted, and if waitlisted, my ranking (or unranking) on the waitlist.

I dunno. They're usually pretty good about dispensing info over the phone.

I intend to call.

Hang in, guys.

Dang that's really lame. They give you a reason why it is taking them so long? I guess we can all go back to continually checking the status page. Good luck everyone.

Well, I guess that's good news...sort of.
I just called and got the same response. I asked an additional question of Nancy for clarification

"So at this moment, of the remaining students, the committee has yet to determine which students will be placed on the waitlist or be accepted?"

She said yes.
I logged on to SDN to figure out if anyone heard the same, and it would appear so... let us all know when the emails start flowing!
