Anyone separate/retire from the military with a VA rating and apply for disability insurance for your civilian job? How did your rating affect your policy?

It will undoubtably raise it significantly. It may make it unaffordable or simply not worth it based on what you get. Be careful about preexisting illness clauses.

Many employers provide disability insurance. It’d do your best to get what you can ASAP if it’s reasonably, and then find ways to maximize your employers benefit.

Get disability insurance now and then do the VA process after separation.

Depending on the what the rating was for you typically end up with an exclusion for that issue because you are already receiving a disability benefit for that deficit.
