Hello sdn members,

How would VA disability due to psychiatric condition affect path of physician. Let’s say from Medical School all the way to getting Liability Insurance and Medical License.

I know that along the way one of multiple applications will ask about psych history. Just want to make sure that it will not be a barrier. Thank you!

I can't imagine it impacting medical school applications directly unless you spontaneously brought it up, which you should not. Beyond that, they care about your ability to become licensed in their state and the specifics of that depend on the state. The question usually is "Do you have a condition that impacts your ability practice medicine?" Some states get more aggressive and try their very best to rub right up against the ADA, but a state or school is likely on the way to being sued if they ask for your "psych history." Typically if you have a license, you can get malpractice insurance and not every job (like the VA for example) even needs it. The issue would be much more with the licensing, but I honestly don't foresee much of an issue for most SC psychiatric conditions. The bar for SC is much lower than the bar for impairment.
